NCAA Football 2019 (4 Viewers)

I am ok with Sark losing to a good Washington team.

However, the minute one of his players/alumni chops his ex-wife’s head off I will ask for a replacement.

Agree. Sark took a team that ended up just about where I thought they would talent wise. Hard to assess a bowl game that is 1.5 hours down the road and your best player opting for the NFL. It was actually a boring game, Ewers did what he has done all season - inconsistent at times, brilliant at others. Hard to blame the coach on that one. Texas will be back better next year and more likely than not, they will be in bigger mix in the coming years. Doug - as much as you hate Sark, guy can coach which is why the greatest college coach in modern history Saban had him on his staff. Same goes for Lane Kiffin. Personally, they both are interesting and have issues, but both know football and can coach. What they did at USC is probably not going to define their careers.

On a good note - FSU beat Oklahoma, nice way to end the year, although give OK credit as they came to play, I just think FSU talent at Wide Receiver and QB ended up being the difference. That one handed catch on the late game drive by #14 from FSU is definitely a top highlight for the year.

On a bad note - South Carolina forgot there are 4 qts of football and Notre Dame looked better prepared and thus turned and won the game. They wanted it more - their defensive line won the game for them.

One comment on any bowl games other than the playoff - with NFL and Transfer portals you saw a lot of teams going through the motions. That said, still some very competitive games like FSU, Notre Dame, Arkansas, some great games and I love watching them, but I think it is hard to judge them and what they mean for next year - honestly nothing. For example, Maryland beating NC State 16 -12 is not going to give MD momentum to be a factor in the Big 10, just not. Texas losing to Washington in the Alamo Bowl (less than 2 hrs from campus and I think 6 or 7 starters including arguably the top RB NFL prospect in the Country) is not going to define Coach Sark or how they do next year.

Predictions for today - if Georgia is ready to play, Ohio State should lose by 3 touchdowns. That said, there is a big if there. On the first game, if Michigan gets out of rhythm in any part of their gameplan, they are in for a fight. TCU is the type of team that can hang around and make you play lethargic and out of sorts. That is their in to win..

"Eight win" Sark has done it again with his loss in the aptly named Alamo Bowl. Texas will probably give him a couple million dollar raise after another disappointing season since results don't seem to matter in his case. The alums will tar and feather him, though, before all is said and done.

My other post details this, but I think you are off - Sark is well liked there in Texas and this is a big turnaround from the past. I would say right now (as is true with any large school Alumni), they are all in on Sark and the direction the team is going. It is not much different than USC, if they lose the bowl game or have a down year next year, the same praising alumni will be trying to run Riley out of town. That is just college football at big school programs. Hero on the day you win, Zero on the day you lose. Being a college football head coach is probably the most thankless job in the nation and maybe it should be for what they are paid. It is one of the true jobs where you are a hired gun, loyalty only goes as far as winning.

Forgot to say one other thing - bright side to losing a Bowl Game - team gear goes on clearance sale within hours - great time to stock up!

Sark has been reviled and run out of town in every place he has ever coached. Texas will be the same. Those folks have no tolerance for his kind of nonsense. He coached kids while intoxicated at USC and then sued them for his alcoholism. His record speaks for itself. He is the worst of a lot of egotistical coaching types because he can't win on the field. He takes over a great program and wins eight games max for about three years and then gets fired.

So USC is responsible for the actions of a single player two decades after he has left the program? LOL. Mack Brown ran one of the dirtiest college football programs in modern history at Texas. But at least he could win football games. Sark is the gift that keeps on giving.

I’ll preface this by saying I have great respect for USC and their mix of academic and sports prowess. However…..

I must have missed where Mack Brown and his tenure caused any sanctions/forfeitures? Maybe you have him confused with Pete Carrol?

And OJ? For someone who continually posts about the outrageousness of false charges without a conviction you seem to have missed a chance to back up your theories on multiple counts.

By your way of thinking on woke accusations, OJ was falsely accused and never did anything wrong. After all he was found not guilty of the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.

How about the playoffs? Fantastic games, couple of quick comments:

A> TCU - as I said many times, let them hang, give them openings, they take advantage. They are for real in my opinion. Did they benefit from the replay overturning a touchdown, yes. Do I agree with the call as a fan.................not so much. I thought it was also targeting at the end, but as a good friend pointed out while watching the game, if it was not called on the field, the replay will generally deflect to the head official's judgement and you could argue that even though he led with his head, he hit a lot of shoulder pad, hence no targeting. All of that said, Michigan truly was stunned by the physical ability of TCU. From the very first drive, Michigan's game plan got thrown out of whack, but I give Michigan credit in that they never quit, they just got outscored. The one TCU receiver is an absolute beast and he made Michigan pay.

B. Georgia - really lucky that their superior talent carried them through because execution was not their forte in that game. Also, the defense played horrid, if they get in that type of game with TCU, they will lose.

I think the "right" teams won based on both games, it should make for a good championship game. Absolutely respect Georgia, but I personally would like to see TCU complete the season, it is a great story and you have to give them a lot of credit, both the players and the coach.

Really enjoyed the 2 games. Slightly surprised by the TCU win but was really surprised that OSU gave Georgia all it could handle and then some. Felt Georgia was the better team (my SEC bias) but was very fortunate to have won. The championship game will be a corker if Georgia alllows TCU to hang around, but my SEC bias tells me Georgia could massacre TCU if they fire on all cylinders. We shall see... -- Al

Just when you think the NCAA can't top the 2 semi-final games, along comes the Cotton Bowl. With apologies to the USC fans on this forum, this was one exciting game, won with a terrific comeback. Feel very fortunate to have watched it. Congrats to Tulane. -- Al

USC Trojans, one of the best offenses in the Nation...and proved today that Caleb Williams can't play defense.

Yeah that's right, he's not suppose too! Defense, defense can anybody find where Troy left it today, or when they played Utah?

This year the Trojans were nothing but a big tease. Next year they better improve otherwise games will be again 48-44 and your guess is who won.

They are still suffering from the curse of Clay Helton. Nice guy, but terrible coach. Until they get rid of his soft players, they will not become an elite team. With that said, going from 4 wins to 11 in one season is not bad. Caleb Williams is far and away the best player in college football. USC would be a five win team without him. They would have lost this game 100-0 with any other college QB. Plug him in with a team like Georgia or Bama, and they would be unbeatable.

If UGA wins then college football has a rare back to back champion.

If TCU wins then college football has a rare preseason long shot as champion.

Both of those possible outcomes are enough to get me to watch.

Dawgs en fuego.

Barring a Matt Ryan-esque second half collapse, in the words of Don Meredith, turn out the lights….

Should have follwed my gut and bet the farm on a massacree. TCU totally outclassed. The SEC strikes again. -- Al

The only team that had a shot of the 3 other finalists to beat Georgia was tOSU, they have the outside speed that Georgia cannot match and with the march of the tomato cans Georgia has lined up to play next year, how about a threepeat, won't that be swell.

Just think; the NCAA is expanding the playoff to 8 teams, that seems like a solid move.

I’m sure there have been some terrible championship games but I can’t remember one this bad.

It’s a tad early to award GA next years nat championship, ya think?

I don’t think you minded when the Pats and Brady were dominating the NFL.

Tennessee Auburn Fla South Carolina Ole Miss all tomato cans?

The announcers were talking about it too; with that ****show unfolding on the field, they had to fill air time somehow..............."Georgia has an incredibly easy schedule next year"............

Out of that bunch, only Tennessee will give them a game.

SEC hegemony remains a big problem for this sport. Taking nothing away for Georgia. They’re a wagon. But Having 2 or 3 programs from the same region of the country dividing up the championships year after year has made this event a bore.

Which is a pity, because the regular season is often so wildly entertaining.

Your team has become the Patriots; the team the rest of the country hates.

So embrace it while it lasts, ok Harry?

Congrats to Georgia. That was a beat down for the ages. Like Mike Tyson fighting Pee Wee Herman. They left no doubt. There should have been a mercy rule to call it off. Maybe the best four teams should be in the playoffs instead of the highest ranked. TCU arguably earned their shot, but they were humiliated last night. I can't imagine college football wants many more of those kinds of championship games. Bama or LSU would have made it more competitive.
