Of course but I highly doubt it. I think Coach fails at UNC. Not enough NIL money for football there imo. Also why would you leave a talent rich offense where your skills will shine next year and solidify you as a potential number one draft pick?
Depends on how much dough they offer him, money talks does it not, look at the salaries in ML.....................

Oh, never mind.

Will see what happens at UNC, as I said, either way, it will a fun watch.

I don’t think Manning thus far cares about nil, he gives his away as a donation. My nil comment was more about unc in general. ACC school with more money put in basketball is a tough nut to crack. Mack Brown is arguably a fantastic coach and had trouble entire second stint there recruiting. I am surprised he took the job at 72.

I'm sure most of you would remember who Charlie Ward is, FSU Heisman winning QB. FSU's struggles this past year are quite amazing considering their previous year's record of 13-1. Throwback photo of me and Charlie Ward at our local HOF induction ceremony a few years back where I was going in and Charlie was there as a former inductee. I don't really know Charlie that well, but was nice to talk to him that night.

I had the pleasure of meeting him in his heyday! Great guy, if I remember correctly, pretty soft spoken, just generally nice. Took a lot of time to talk to a Freshman college kid from another school! (It may have helped that the meeting occurred in Coach Bowden's office with a very prominent FSU Golden Chief :) One neat thing I will always remember!

Yes he seems to be a genuinely nice guy. I enjoyed talking to him that night. I'm a good bit older than Charlie and I'm surprised it took the HOF committee so long to recognize my accomplishments and to why he got in so many years ahead of me even though I'm older. I guess winning the Heisman takes you to the front of the line!. (just kidding/being funny).

Well the playoffs start tomorrow night, then three games on Saturday............since I have no dog in the fight, chaos would be nice if for no other reason than to prove expanding the field from 4 to 12 was a good idea.

That said, I have a feeling the lower seeds will all get rolled.

Sort of stinks that the top seeds in the next round don't end up with a home playoff game, but OTOH, it's great that bigtime, traditional bowls will feature huge, impact games, New Years Day is going to be something else.

Congrats, it is quite an accomplishment and puts you in with some elite folks!! I got lucky and was able to witness "big time" college football first hand from the sidelines, I wish I was good enough to continue playing! I had an opportunity to be a grad assistant as I always thought I wanted to coach. Maybe I should have! Instead, I took the CPA route, although I lasted in taxes for about less than 5 years, too boring. I still do my own, but that is about it. Life is interesting in hindsight as you come to many crossroads and never really know how its going to turn out.

I agree that all the home teams will likely roll. SMU might give Penn St a game, but the others should be blowouts. College football can be wildly unpredictable, though. Add in the layoff and transfer portal into the mix and anything is possible. It does give me a laugh that the commentators are suggesting the cold in South Bend gives ND an advantage. They are playing Indiana whose school is only a couple hundred miles away and from a similar climate.

George:

Great post.

College football wants to model itself after the college basketball tournament. One of their biggest problems with that is college football rarely, if ever, has major upsets especially in the playoffs.

As far as major bowl games go, I think they will be relegated to hosting 2nd tier teams soon. Keurig (Dr. Pepper) is going to offer the NCAA a sponsorship deal for teams to host games throughout the playoff. Their $14 billion yearly revenue outguns the Rose Bowl’s $60 million.

I wonder how playing the first playoff games on the weekend before Christman impacts the home crowd? Most of the students have finished up for the semester and scattered to the winds. There were still tickets available for the Penn St. game today. Plus it is cold. Can't imagine fighting the traffic to sit in the freezing cold for five hours when the game is on TV.

The atmosphere in the stadium was pretty cool, people were amped up, when the Indiana QB threw that INT deep in Notre Dame territory early on and on the next play the Notre Dame RB ripped off a 98 yard TD run, that was pretty much that.

One down, three to go today.

Speaking personally, my son flew back to Austin yesterday and their student section should be near sold out. There were a few tickets overall left but not great seats as I thought about it myself. It was 85 in Austin when I left Wednesday! To be honest, I darn near cried when I landed in Maryland to this shiite weather. I hate the cold.

All the games so far have been pretenders vs contenders. Not much drama. Really highlighting why records are less important than strength of schedule when you have over 100 teams. SMU had no business in the playoff. Indiana would have lost by three TDs to Bama. ASU and Boise St. should not get a bye.

Don't care how ugly and dumb things the Horns did today. They did one thing right. BYE DUMBO, go home you whining idiot. What a turd.

Expanding the field to 12 teams; check.

The way they lined them up/seeded them; beyond idiotic.

Next week you've got the #1 seed having to play tOSU, who look impressive tonight while Texas gets ASU and will demolish them, move on and play the winner, you've got three loaded teams in one bracket, then Penn St, ND, Boise State and Georgia with their back up QB in the other bracket.

It's lopsided IMO.

After the first round, all they need to do is reseed the teams, this is not rocket science.

I am not sure what to think, this weekend seemed like another day in College FB this year. OSU looked real good, now do they go out and lay an egg at Oregon, very possible. There was the 2nd qtr tonight where they reverted. Texas after Clemson's first drive turned it into a scrimmage until.................Missed Pass INT gives Clemson the ball, Ewers misses an easy 4th down, Sark goes on 4th down , etc. Texas was inconsistent today, that is not going to win it all. Penn State looked for real..........as they should against an overmatched SMU. Notre Dame beat I guess its official, a pretender. Point being, 10 days from now, could see a whole different outcome. I am not sure what to expect. I believe Penn State, Texas and Georgia should advance......................unless their inconsistencies cause a failure. OSU/Oregon to me is a pick em.

It should be interesting. On a crappy note, Steelers could not capitalize on gift interception from Lamar Jackson and instead of tying the game, they threw a pick 6 and went on to lose. That sucked!
