Expanding the field to 12 teams; check.

The way they lined them up/seeded them; beyond idiotic.

Next week you've got the #1 seed having to play tOSU, who look impressive tonight while Texas gets ASU and will demolish them, move on and play the winner, you've got three loaded teams in one bracket, then Penn St, ND, Boise State and Georgia with their back up QB in the other bracket.

It's lopsided IMO.

After the first round, all they need to do is reseed the teams, this is not rocket science.
Every game a blowout. And arguably the two best teams, Oregon and Ohio St. play against each other in the next round. The FCS games were much better. Every team involved seemed to be from North or South Dakota. Sark leads a charmed life so far with Texas. They didn't beat a single top 25 team the entire season. They get a hapless Clemson team at home and then ASU. I am impressed with the crowds given that most students are gone. They filled all those stadiums to the brim. A few empty seats at the Penn St. game in the upper decks but not many.

as you know, in these situations, you take any luck you can. Even the best dynasties over time are benefactors of luck, now you can make an argument that good teams make their own luck too. As I said, I think this thing can go any direction, based on College FB this season. It is not inconceivable that the Oregon/OSU game could be a blow out either way. I could also see Texas paying the price for being inconsistent all year in decision making both on the field and in the box so to speak. If they would have run the ball all game, they would have beaten Clemson by 30 points. They didn't, they got cute on a number of occasions, got a bad luck no call and all of a sudden were in a brief fight. Anything can and will happen in these next games IMO.

Well the first round of the playoffs went without upset and was not very exciting IMO. The next round should provide with some interest. Being a UGA guy, I've been hearing that our chances are diminished with Beck being out. I beg to differ. If you saw Stockton play in the second half against Texas in the SEC championship, you know we have a guy that can handle the situation. Even with Texas trying to take his head off inside the 10 late in the game, Stockton didn't back down. I'm not sure we win that game without his play (even though he did make one costly mistake in the pic he threw). I'm comfortable with him at the helm even though he doesn't have much experience. He is a special kid willing to lay it on the line. A great athlete. FWIW - when I was at the UMASS/UGA game a few weeks ago and talking with Barbara Dooley (widow of former head coach Vince Dooley), she said Gunner Stockton is dating her granddaughter. Bring on Notre Dame!
Will be on your side in the next game, I hope y'all wax Notre Dame. I personally think the best game could be a GA TX rematch again. The second game was a pretty darn good football game to watch. I think your QB should be fine if he settles in. Texas caught him on the rush and forced a bad pass, if the line protects him, no issue. He also needs to curtail his running, that play while legal was very brutal. Shoulders hits to the head can still do a lot of damage. If the GA defense shows up and offense runs the course without huge mistakes, Georgia should handle ND fairly cleanly.

I don't blame Texas for a soft draw. That's on the NCAA or whoever put together this system. Certain teams have benefited even more like ASU and Boise St. I would go with the best four teams to get the bye as not all conference champs are the same. Also put more emphasis on strength of schedule. Records are less meaningful when you have over 100 teams than in the NFL where the schedules are more comparable due to a smaller number of competitors. That would interject a bit of subjective selective criteria but so be it. I've seen too many teams like Indiana and SMU pump themselves only to get humiliated by better teams. There is an enormous talent difference between the real top ten teams and everyone else.

Since college sports are obsessed with money and not tradition or regional rivalries it should all be one big league.

They should also cancel the education side and remove any academic requirements.

Simply put, the “college” side of college sports is over.

Unfortunately, that does seem like the logical progression of where this is all going. The money drives everything. The non-playoff bowl games are ridiculous with the transfer portal. The universities are now dedicated solely to making money and have given up on education. By the time most kids reach college, it is too late to correct decades of neglect in the our broken education system. So they have mostly given up and dedicated themselves to profit. The NCAA will fight to keep their cash cow but it will eventually become a minor league type professional league for football and basketball.

Good to see Navy beat Oklahoma. The Oklahoma coach was ranting and raving like his head was going to explode. He must have confused his 6-6 team playing in a noon bowl game on a Friday with the Super Bowl. Oklahoma lost 25 players to the transfer portal. These games are laughable.

Some decent bowl games yesterday despite most teams having 20 or more players leaving for the transfer portal. The only good thing about that is getting a preview of the younger players. Great game between USC and Texas A&M in the wee hours. SC was down 24-7 in the second half and looking at a blow out that likely ends with Lincoln Riley getting fired but instead they come back and win in the last ten seconds.

It feels so strange to watch all of these bowls while the “playoff” is in full swing.

So many great and meaningless games all at once.

Actually have been some exciting games oddly enough, I have enjoyed nearly all I watched except Colorado/BYU, hats off to BYU, came out firing and never stopped, that is a way to beat a lot of hype!

I did think it was a tremendous gesture Coach Sanders and the 100 year old Colorado fan. She has attended literally every Colorado game forever and he made sure through private plane and arrangements she would be at the bowl game. Those are stories that get overshadowed by the hype, but they are good stories.

I think Penn St. wins big tonight. Georgia is a better team than ND, but the Irish are red hot and Georgia playing with a backup QB will be the difference. My predicts.

Penn. St. 34 Boise St. 23
Texas 48 ASU 17
ND 38 Georgia 34
Ohio St. 30 Oregon 27

The college football rule that allows teams to substitute defensive players in slow motion and run down the play clock needs to be changed. That's ridiculous. Maybe the offense should be precluded from substitution players after ten seconds to avoid this happening.

Texas was very fortunate to win after blowing what should have been an insurmountable lead. Quinn Ewers interception was the only play that would have let ASU back and of course he did. Just unbelievable. The Defense deserves the win as they were on the filed for 75% of the game, kind of amazing they didn't run out of gas. Need to be perfect next Friday to win. The overtime Quinn Ewers is the version that needs to show up.

And as for the targeting call, I would point out on the interception that was targeting also. In the end probably better they didn't call either as they were football plays and targeting is so ridiculously subjective and neither imo were ill intentions. I would argue the interception was worse in the fact if you rewatch it.

End of the day at this point all that matters is the w. I just think this play when you need to is going to run out for the Longhorns.

That was a great game. Texas should have won by 50 but winning is still winning. ASU outplayed them and out toughed them, but the talent advantage was just too great even for Sark to blow. I do love how he psyched out his own kicker before that last missed FG by getting in his face. Ohio St. is going to be a different beast. That Michigan loss apparently lit a fire under them.

I always have thought the kicker is the worst position on the field. You are never just doing your job, either the zero or hero!

The time off for the bye teams and flaw in rankings was apparent this week. All the bye teams have looked rusty and started slowly. All of them have lost.

They should have gone from 4 to 8 with no byes and not seed teams based on who wins a conference championship, just seed them 1-8 based on ranking and go from there.

Oregon really got screwed.

So far, one great game and the rest have been duds.

Credit to ASU, they proved they belonged, how in the world did they let a guy get behind their defense on a 4th and 7 in OT. that was the game right there, too bad.

Honestly, when Texas executed on offense, the teams didn't deserve to be in the same building, the skill level was not even close. I agree with Doug, had they not gotten arrogant on offense they would have destroyed this team. Instead, they did airballs to nowhere when they got the ball, held it for .2 secs and put their world class defense back on the field. I think it is incredible that Texas defense didn't tire out and their conditioning won the game. If it wasn't for that, they would have completely blown that game, in the end, I consider them very lucky to get out of it based on their own buffonery. I give credit to ASU for their ability to hang around and capitalize, but if I was a gambling conspiracy, I want to know how much was on ASU taking the the 13.5 points and how much was on the over at 51.5.

Unless you watched that game in full, nobody would believe the events that led to overtime. As I said, if Texas simply would have run the ball the second half like they did on their scoring drive, no heroics would have been needed.

If they perform like this next Friday and Ohio State plays like they did, it will be a blow out no matter how much talent Texas puts on the field.

On the Ohio State note - Ryan Day and Chip Kelly are playing/coaching like their jobs are on the line.............................they are.
