New Winter Tiger (2 Viewers)

Can't I just love the look of something, without every little thing about it being wrong? :rolleyes:Michael

I'm sorry Michael. It certainly isn't my intention. I think this is a great looking Tiger and I'm not knocking it.

I'm very interested in the history behind the pieces we collect so once the subject was raised I couldn't resist discussing it.

Frank

Hi Brian,

This is the only decal that could be used for your Tiger 1 at the Bulge.

Did I win?

Regards,
Paul

From what I've seen it was applied to the storage box on the back of the turret like this picture.

Firstly I want to thank UK Subs for possibly preventing a real problem with decaling. There seems to be some real confusion between SS Panzer Abteiling 501st that was absolutely in the Ardennes and the Heer Panzer Abteilung 501st on the Eastern front. Those are two seperate heavy tank battalions that existed.

I reach out to you froggers for the answer: whoever can identify the correct division that belongs to the 501st SS Heavy Tank battalion in the Ardenne, hence describing the correct decaling necessary, will be shipped a FREE SET of Collectors Showcase figures.

Please post on this thread, however does this first is the winner!

Thank you to everyone: including and especially our number one fan UK Subs!;)

very best regards,

Brian

There were no Tiger 1's in the 501, for the Bulge. You have to go with the sPzAbt.506, they were the only Tiger battalion that had Tiger 1's that took part in the Ardennes Offensive.

The 506 also used a three inch Yellow circles with White crosses on some of their tanks.

I already discribed the 506 unit symbol.

Does this work for you, Brian? :p :)

Cheers,
Paul

That's the one Frank, thanks for posting the picture.

Do you think, I answered the free set question? ;)

Well actually the question was:

"I reach out to you froggers for the answer: whoever can identify the correct division that belongs to the 501st SS Heavy Tank battalion in the Ardenne, hence describing the correct decaling necessary, will be shipped a FREE SET of Collectors Showcase figures."

Answer 1.SS.Pz.Div "LSSAH"

That makes me the winner :p

its great that instead of being hardnosed and fissy, Brian is willing to engage and admit some inaccuracies in his product offering, and willing to rectify them.

He could have very well take the high ground, and have a take-it-or-leave-it attitude, but he refrained from this immature stance.

CS have gone up in my books.

and Frank, do keep up churning out the excellent postings you had consistently posted. I sense the majority of us, me especially, really appreciate that there's someone who is knowledgeable and unselfish to inform someone as ignorant as me. I felt nowadays an extra satisfaction with my collections, not only are my displays aesthetically wonderful to look at, the historical accuracy gives it an extra ummph.

Well done Brian, Frank.

sincerely,

nasir kasmani.

For you Brian,

There's still the problem if the 506, Tiger 1's being painted white at the Ardennes. I have seen pictures of a Ardennes area, knocked out 506, Tiger 1, covered in a natural snow coating. After the snow on it thawed, it revealed a turret # 411, and it had no Zimmerit coating, with no white wash camo.

Cheers,
Paul

Ah now Frank,

Brian is working on the pictured Tiger 1.

And we both know the 501st didn't have any in the Bulge.

s.H.Pz.Kp.Hummel was attached to the 506th Dec. 8 1944 and they probabaly didn't bother painting the unit emblem either.

This unit was cobbled together out of training, test vehicles and the like and I've noticed some interesting things. The pictures show a mix of early/mid/late chassis and turrets as well as zimmerit and no zimmerit

As I stated earlier I don't think there was whitewash on the any German AFVs in the Ardennes. If anyone can find pictures to prove me wrong please post them.

The safest bet for this whitewashed mid production Tiger would be the eastern front. That said if people want a white Tiger I for the Ardennes then the 4th company of the 506th would be the most realistic. This means the vehicle number should start with 4 (i.e. 411)

Frank

Here a couple of whitewash pics but as mentioned before the only pics I've seen are of snow covered tiger tanks in the ardennes, but there's plenty of whitewashed photo's from the eastern front.

Before I announce our TWO winners I wish to say that this discussion has been one of the most positive and informative ever. Rather than just simple gripes ( although some folks couldn't help it: I understand;) ), there were a few that rose above the din and began to think as a group. Solving problems and coming togethor to push the hobby forward, however little it may seem.

" One small step forward, one leap for the hobby " or something like that. So to the honors ( drum roll please ):

1. fmethorst wins first place for his dedication to the thread and his very concise and immediate answers to some of the basic questions involving the 501st and 506th. Please choose ANY figure set on our site and send us an e-mail with your address so we can ship one off ( support@thecollectorsshowcase.com )

2. IXEC wins second place for his covering fire and support of fmethorst. Please choose ANY figure set on our site and send us an e-mail with your address so we can ship one off ( support@thecollectorsshowcase.com )

A special runners up mention goes out to nasirkasmani for first broaching the decal issue and generally being a great sport and very informative as well.

Thanks for all contributions they will be noted in your stasi personnel files for later reference if and when required.

warm regards,

Brian
