Nfl 2014 (3 Viewers)

When the news first broke about Aaron Hernandez and his possible involvement in a murder, I watched the whole situation closely. As it came to be that he in fact was involved, my attitude changed at that point and I was of the mind that if it came to light that the Patriots knew about his "gangsta" lifestyle and turned a blind eye to it because he was a very good football player, I would be done with them and would no longer be a fan.

It turned out they were clueless, he had them and the whole team fooled as he lived a double life; football player by day, "gangsta" by night.

My attitude at this point is if they bring in another person of questionable character who soils the team name and the organization, I am done with them.

So yes, there will be no "Raven love" for awhile as I have a feeling this is just the tip of the iceberg and this is going to get real ugly.

Real fast

Have to agree with you on this one George, why the NFL, Ravens choose not to pursue the video evidence is beyond me?? If your going to have to discipline a player wouldn't you want to collect all the evidence??? I believe Harbough/ owner Biscotti when they said they had not seen the video until now but why not??? Yea, lots of questions still to be answered and my Ravens season looks to be caught in the middle...Sammy

You see now where the battered wife is jumping all over the NFL for fireing her man. She now stands to loose the goose that laid the golden egg. I don,t see the punch as the cause for a future break up of this marriage but the loss of revenue. So much for taking one for the team.

Quite a chippy game between the Cards and Chargers last night. I fell asleep before it ended, but they were jawing back and forth. Kind of surprising since that is not exactly a heated rivalry. Why do they play in a domed stadium in Arizona and close the roof at night? I can understand doing that in Minnesota in December but not AZ.

I think the roof was closed last night due to the fact that there was a flash flood/thunder storm warning in effect for that area at the time of the game. The whole region (Phoenix and Glendale) experienced some of the heaviest rain on record yesterday and the NFL was concerned that lightening etc. could have postponed the game.

Great game to watch by the way and I did notice the chippy play.

I see that Goodell has asked that he be investigated asked that the owners of the Steelers and Giants oversee the investigation. Robert Mueller, the former FBI director, has been appointed. The NFL said that Mueller should take as long as possible to investigate.

That is a complete farce. It's not an independent investigation and Mueller has no subpoena powers. The NFL is trying to get this story off the news cycle and bury it so they would love that Mueller take as long as he liked, as in never. It's the NFL investigating the NFL.

Tonight's game should be a circus. Apparently three times as many requests for press credentials as normal have been received.

It only makes sense for Goodell to go if they clean out the NFL office. If they don't, then don't bother.

In a more alarming story, John Abraham, the former Jets and Falcons player, who is 36 years old, and who played until last year, has reported that he has significant memory loss.

I have to ask, is anyone going to watch less football on Sunday because of this past week’s events?

No
I posed this question earlier and did not get a response. Why is the outrage with the NFL and not the authorities that have criminal juristiction in this case? They are the ones that "fumbled" (great play on word in this case)?
I,m not saying Rice should not have been fired as his actions are detremental to the game, but the real punishment should come from the criminal justice system.

Penn State tried this as well but it backfired on them. Goodell knows what he did or didn't do without any investigation. He should resign no matter how this turns out either from incompetence or covering up. I agree with Gary though that law enforcement dropped the ball here. If they had done their jobs properly this wouldn't be an issue.

He was indicted for assault but because he has no prior criminal record he was given counseling. He was apparently treated the same way other first time offenders were.

Mentioning Rice and Goodell in the same breath doesn't make much sense because the NFL situation has to do with damage control and realizing they made a mistake by only giving Rice only two games when they knew what happened, tape or no tape. All they're doing is protecting the brand. Also Goodell has rode roughshod over critics and they are now looking for payback.

No ray rice,no problem, after 3 days of non stop Rice/ goodell stories it was good to see the Ravens play a solid game on both sides of the ball, Pierce proved he is a #1 running back and the defense has given up 1 touchdown in 2 games, maybe the sky hasn't fallen on the Ravens just yet, and any win over the Steelers is the best medicine for a terrible week...Sammy

Good game tonight. The Ravens dominated Pittsburgh from start to finish. Seems the Ravens are a thorn in the side of the Steelers every time they play !
Here in West Texas, if you are not a Dallas fan..... Pittsburgh seems to be popular. That being said....misery loves company !

Sammy:

Well said. As a football fan I am glad to see that the Ravens rose above all the happenings and played with pride and heart. Winning will not cure everything but it is a credit to the players that they came out and beat a tough division rival amid all the surrounding turmoil.

Plus it was nice to see a good match-up on Thursday night, the past few seasons we seemed to only get the Browns v. the Jaguars etc.

Attention seems to be slowly turning to defensive end Greg Hardy of the Panthers. What he did to a woman was far worse than what Ray Rice did; he almost killed her: tried to strangle, drown her, etc. He's been convicted but still allowed to play while he exerices his right to appeal. Unbelievable. If the NFL doesn't do something about this guy, then clean out the whole NFL office.

This league is turning into the police blotter league: Adrian Peterson has been indicted in Texas for child abuse. Not trying to make light of this, however.

All the stranger since his own son was murdered not long ago. What a nightmare for the NFL. They are neck and neck with MLB for most scandals. A real sorry state of affairs.

There are scandals and then there are SCANDALS. Taking PED's to enhance performance hardly equates with child molestation or wife-beating. Both are illegal but they aren't the same problem. -- Al

The right and wrong way to handle things:

Minnesota has announced that Peterson has been declared inactive for Sunday's game;

Carolina has announced that Hardy will start Sunday's game.

Two games into the Redskin season and, shock of shocks, RGIII is hurt again, but the Redskins are currently NOT the worst team in the NFC East. Probably just a temporary situation but at least it's something.:redface2: -- Al

It was obviously a smart move to keep Cousins.

Hopefully.....and I mean Hopefully all of these Domestic issues have been identified and soon put to rest. Way too much Football to be played yet !
For other players that get involved in these situations, hopefully they think twice before acting out. Lets play ball !
