NFL Season 2016-17 (1 Viewer)

Well as I said previously, barring injuries the Patriots are the clear cut AFC favorites.

Two preseason games in, Lewis their starting RB is now out 8 to 10 weeks, Vollmer their starting right tackle is done for the year on IR, Mason their starting left guard broke his hand, Nikovich their starting left defensive end tore a triceps muscle, out a month and Sheard, the other end, is hurt, no word on his status.

Oh and Brady is out the first four games.

So much for being the favorites, it's going to be a rough season, that is for sure. Have to go with the Steelers as the favorites now, Denver and that defense second, New England third (at best).

Football, like no other sport, is a killer when it comes to injuries.

Imagine they are toying with expanding the season to 18 games?

Sounds like the pre-season Pats are the evil twin of my Ravens in the regular season, don't even want to revisit the injury talk with the Ravens being near the top of that stat the last 2 years but as the ol saying goes "it is what it is" and every team faces it, some more or much more then others, I remember last years pre-season the Ravens back ups getting blown out and losing 3-of 4 I think, tables turn to this year and those back ups are playing solid and 2 good wins vs. Panthers/Colts, well those back ups were mostly starters by years end in 2015, I hold my breath when I log on to read the Raven practice/training updates these days, and actually seeing Dumervil, Suggs, Perriman, Flacco, Pitta, S. Smith, Forsett all on the field practicing is almost surreal, here's hoping the injury Gods throw us a bone this year and go easy for a change...Sammy

Well at least you don't have to say your team is healthy and sucks! Ah, the life of a Lions fan. If the Lions could play as good as a injury riddled Pat team then I would be happy with that.

Hang in there Joe, they'll get to the Super Bowl at some point for you..............

And they'll be playing the Jets . . . :rolleyes2:

There are currently four NFL teams who've never been to the Super Bowl; the Lions (sorry Joe), the Texans, the Browns and the Jaguars.

The Browns and Texans are both relatively new expansion franchises, the Jaguars came into the league in 1996 I believe.

Aside from the Lions, the team with the second longest appearance drought are the Jets you mentioned, not having been in 47 years.

Imagine there isn't a Jets fan on the planet under the age of 55 who has a clear memory of their first and only trip to the Super Bowl, the Chiefs are right behind them with a 46 year drought, the Vikings are next with a 40 year drought.

That's a long time between rodeos.

Some franchises are just poorly run. In New York, there are the Jets and the Knicks. In Detroit, the Lions. In Cleveland, the Browns. The longest standing drought in any sport, the Cubs, might actually end this year. But Chicago fans at least have the Bulls, Bears and Blackhawks. I can't imagine what it must have been like to be a Cleveland fan before the Cavaliers broke the 52 year all-sports drought this year.

Not sure the Jets are poorly run; since 1969, they've been to four AFCCG's and lost them all. They lost to Miami in Miami when Shula "forgot" to have the field covered the night before the game when a monsoon came in, the field was a mess for the game. The Jets had a great pass run and the sloppy field slowed them down.

Good old Shula; always whines about how the Patriots are cheaters, but he's above that..........

They lost to Denver in Denver the second year Parcells was at the helm, will never forget the shot of "Fireman Ed" in the stands with a sadsack look on his face.

They went to back to back AFCCGs with fatso as their coach, losing to Frankenforehead and the Colts then they lost to the Steelers.

The lasting image for me from the Steelers game was after getting down big early, the Jets roared back and their defense needed to stop Pittsburg and force a punt, but they couldn't and after the game clinching first down, fatso ripped his headset off and flung it to the ground in disgust.

They've also had their share of epic playoff failures, like the year they were up huge on Cleveland and Charlie Steiner exclaimed "They just punched their ticket to the AFCCG"...................not so fast spinach chin as the Browns roared back thanks to a terrible roughing the passer call on Gastineau that was pure BS and won the game, they also were tied with Pittsburg in 2004 and all they needed was a chip shot field goal to win the game and move on to the AFCCG but their kicker soiled himself, the game went to OT and they lost.

So I don't think poorly run applies to them; buzzards luck is more like it.

And if it wasn't for the Jets and their Super Bowl win, the AFL probably would have folded, so there you go.

Bosa seems like he's playing with fire...

his offered contract with an initial signing bonus payment was larger than any rookie has received in the last two NFL drafts, which was more money in 2016 than any rookie in his draft class except Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Carson Wentz...seems more than reasonable and fair to me...

the Chargers offered to pay Bosa 85 percent of his $17 million signing bonus at the time of signing and the rest in the new league calendar year in March, but Bosa's camp remained steadfast in receiving the entire 100% signing bonus by the end of this year...

which the Chargers have now pulled off the table...and Bosa remains unsigned with the regular season starting in 2 weeks...

I feel he's getting bad advice from his agent/camp...I know a lot of the posters on here are anti NFL team...and maybe say he should have done an Eli and demanded to be traded...but I think he may end up regretting his plan to sit out a year and re-enter the draft in 2017...a lot of things could go wrong and he ends with with less or nothing...

I was hoping the Cowboys were gonna draft him...but I'm kind of glad they didn't now if he's gonna be so difficult to sign...even if him and the Chargers come to terms...he's gonna be way behind in learning their system...

Mike:

The problem is that if he re-enters the 2017 draft he will probably not go third overall again and he has no leverage since everyone knows he won't holdout 2 years in a row.

Jason...

if he sits out...he may injure himself in the off season and go waaaaaaaaaay below #3 in 2017...

and yes...with a much worse offer...

I read an article that his father held out for 41 days once...

I'm not pro owner...and I'm also not pro player...

but it seems like a very respectable offer...17 million...85% guaranteed...a lot of money...

not that the Chargers won't re-negotiate anymore...

but they have currently taken their offer off the table...

what does that say?

I just don't understand this one...

that is a lot of $$$!!!

Can anymore Steelers be suspended? Good Lord - Bryant and Bell - Dumb and Dumber................................!

Just when I had gotten over the Sharks loss to the Pens.................

How about standing in respect of all the black men who died fighting for his freedom not to stand!?!??!
As if I needed another reason to dislike him.

NFL says they encourage, but will not require standing. If I owned that team, I'd teach him what the true meaning of sitting means!!!

I didn't hear about any Kappy stories of him going down into the hoods to donate time/money on effort to clean up the inner cities or any fight the black on black murders that go on daily by the hundreds, he wants to take a stand??, take a real stand on real issues moron.

Zach mentions sitting him, and I do not know or care about Cappy's contract, but if I were the owner my boy Cap would be on a one way ticket out the door...Sammy

P.S. I'd be curious to know what Jason who lives in the Bay area thinks about this situation and what the folks of San Fran are saying??

I just heard that Tony Romo has a broken bone in his back and will be out for the next 6-10 weeks. Man is he fragile. He is constantly injured. So much for the Cowboys chances this season.

They play in the NFC East, that division stinks on ice as you like to say; the Cowboys will be fine........................

Sammy:

The reactions in the Bay Area have been mostly negative, with some being brutal (deservedly so).

As a life long Niner fan I hope they cut him.

I am also actually ashamed of the franchise's reaction to it as well. Losing is one thing, essentially condoning the actions of this ignoramus is quite another.

I am having a difficult time looking forward to the NFL season now as I won't be cheering for the Niners as long as he is on their roster.

Old friend Benjamin Watson blew out his Achilles on the first play of the game tonight, so he's done for the year and at 36, this might be it for him.

Very good player who never got to the "great" level many thought he would, although he made one of the greatest plays I've ever seen in the 2005 playoffs for the Patriots vs Denver when from across the field, he ran down Champ Bailey on a 100 yard INT return and knocked ball out of his hands through the end zone before he crossed the goal line, should have been the Patriots ball first and ten on the 20 but the refs gave Bailey the TD, because, well it was in Denver and the Broncos gonna Bronco....................................

I always have loved hustle plays like that. The Watson play and Don Beebe catching Leon Lett have always been 2 of my all time favorites.
