NFL Season 2016-17 (1 Viewer)

They made the playoffs, won the division, secured home field advantage on the last day of the season and won the Super Bowl thanks to an all world defense dragging the corpse of Frankenforehead all the while.

They still have a great defense; KC and Oakland are supposed to be better, but we'll see.

I have them as the #2 team in the AFC behind the Steelers right now, the Patriots are a distant third.

Apparently the Broncos offensive plan is to run the ball which would be great if it was 1965. Without a passing game or at least the threat of a passing game you are doomed in today's NFL. Manning may not have been what he once was, but his history kept defensive coordinators from simply stacking the box in preparation for a run.

And as good as their defense is I tend to think their offense is equally as bad. You can't win if you score zero points even if you only give up a field goal.

I think the Patriots are the best in the AFC followed by the Steelers then the Bengals.

I don't know how to explain or quantify it, but the Broncos stadium must be built on an indian burial ground or something, **** always flows downhill for them and they catch every break.

Take last year; Manning sucked, so they throw Ostelmeyerburgermystermysterburger out there in desperation and they go on a run. The Patriots went there and a freak snowstorm blows in, the Patriots were up by 10 with about 7 minutes left, some stooge muffs a punt, Denver scores and then scores again and ties the game and then wins in OT.

The Steelers go there in the playoffs, clearly outplay them, are driving down the field for the nail in the coffin score, their RB fumbles, the Donkos drive down the field and score and win the game.

All of that said, you are right, I don't see how they win games 7-3, 10-7 or 13-10 in todays NFL pass happy offensive slanted league.

We'll see; I'm watching an NFL preview show now and they rank the AFC as New England/Pittsburg/Bengals/Colts/Raiders/Broncos......................

"the Broncos stadium must be built on an indian burial ground" is an early nominee for post of the year in this thread.

Classic.

Denver wins, wow.

I guess I do not have a future as an NFL analyst on any of the major networks.

I did not torture myself and stay up and watch it; I read something about a blown call, a missed FG, a Denver QB who threw for 178 yards and two INT's and Denver won the game.

It's like Frankenforehead never left...............................and so it goes for the Broncos.......................infuriating.

If the NFL had any ****s they would suspend anyone who does this. If they prohibit teams like the Cowboys from honoring fallen police officers, it is difficult to see how they can allow an ersatz protest during the game. Anyone outside the celebrity, athlete culture and a fringe element in our society is appalled by that kind of behaviour. People in the media have become afraid to criticize anyone lest they be deemed a bigot or intolerant of other views but this is outrageous. King Pete should throw down the hammer if the NFL does not.

Well said and agree 100%. I like what Ray Lewis and Shaq put out there. If I was the football coach, I would have my foot so far up some of these yo yo's backside, it would take a backhoe to remove it. I personally believe we live in a society of Morons.

I watched the first half and the last part of the 4th and it looks like Kubiak made a good decision with the QB as he developed nicely throughout the game. Add in Von Miller (who looks like he hasn't missed a beat) and the Denver D and the result is not unsurprising. Carolina just couldn't separate itself from Denver in the first half, which hung in. With all that, Carolina had a chance to win the game and, but for Kubiak's calling a TO right before the FG kicker kicked what looked like a winning FG, they would have lost. When they did it again, the ball wasn't hiked cleanly and the kick went wide left.

The Broncos will be tough this year.

Actually, Manning was there: he, Terrell Davis and Elway brought out each of their SB trophies. I thought it was a nice ceremony.

In not sure why it's infuriating. You have to admire them for keeping it going.

Finally game day Sunday!!!!! all though I have to work all day tommorow:( but glad to see the 2016 NFL season finally get here:), good luck to all the forum members teams...Sammy

It all starts today for my Giants. Most experts have picked them to win the NFC East (or as it has been lately, the NFC Least), a once proud Division fallen on hard times. I, however, worry, because despite going on a spending spree on defense, our underachieving GM Jerry Reese has failed to do anything to address our other glaring weekness: the offensive line. I still can't understand how Reese thinks. Let's spend $200,000,000 and our first round draft pick on defense, and not bring in a quality o-lineman. The Giants cannot run the ball or throw the ball deep behind this line. As the Cowboys have learned over and over again, all it takes is one hit on a franchise QB to derail a season. I know Eli has never missed a game, but he is getting older. Well one way or another Giants fans will be winners this season, either the experts are correct and they will win the East or Jerry Reese will finally receive a well deserved and long overdue pink-slip.

I'm bummed that my Pats aren't playing your giants in the regular season this year - that's always one of my favorite games!

Wow, just catching up on some crazy NFL games, looks like the Cowboys let a golden opportunity slip through their hands (sorry Mike) with the time running out, Pats are winning 17-7 at the moment which I didn't see that happening, and my Ravens played ol school defense today and stuffed the Bills for a solid win...Sammy

Guess I was wrong about Jimmy G, the kid looked very impressive tonight, Patriots win 23-21, so they won and covered.

Nine point dogs.......................Arizona scored two TD's on turnovers, their offense was pretty ordinary otherwise.

A missed field goal didn't hurt either.

Impressive win on the road...................

Oh and Mike; you were right about Jimmy G, I was wrong.

Great day yesterday; Red Sox and Patriots win, the Yankees and Jets lose as spinach chin underthrows his target on 4th down, INT, ballgame.

Brandon Marshall should worry less about protesting and more about catching footballs, he dropped a pass that hit him in a bad spot on that last drive; right in the hands.........................

The Giants offense looked good, and ran the ball far better than expected, against the vanilla Cowboys defense missing several important defensive players. Eli and the receivers looked great, with the exception of the single interception, where rookie receiver Sterling Shepard took the wrong cut, and left himself behind, rather than in front of, the defender, whom he led right to where the ball was supposed to be thrown. It was great to see Victor Cruz back in action, and he caught 4 passes for 43 yards and a touchdown, so contributed right away. The Giants look to have wide receivers Odell Beckam, Jr., Victor Cruz, and Sterling Shepard, tight end Larry Donnell and running back Vereen as five reliable targets for Eli. With Jennings as the feature back and Vereen as the third-down back, the Giants rushed for 113 yards. However, I do not see them doing this against a quality defensive line with all of its players. The Cowboys much reduced defensive line was able to pressure Eli pretty much all day, despite the successful running game. The four minute drill at the end of the first half resulted in a touchdown, and at the end of the game came one yard short of the third first down they needed to ice the game, while properly managing the clock, and eating up all but the last 1 minute 12 seconds of the clock.

The Giants defense looked abysmal against the short pass, getting no pressure on the Cowboys rookie QB, and continuing its longstanding inability to cover the Cowboys future hall of fame tight end. While the corner backs managed to shut down the Cowboys outside receivers, the tight ends, backs and slot receivers ate the Giants linebackers and safeties for breakfast. The Giants defense did, however, defend the run way better than last year, and looked good in the red zone, against one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. They managed to keep Dallas in bounds on the final drive, although if the Cowboys receiver had darted out of bounds, they could have attempted a 61 yards field goal (which their kicker could have made). With a little help from the Dallas wide receiver, the Giants squeaked out a win in just the kind of game they lost continuously last season.

I'd give the Giants a C+/B- overall. Most importantly, however, grades aside, they started the season with a precious road win in the division. So I guess the only grade that counts is 1-0.{sm4}

Louis...agree with your comments on the Giants...I actually would have graded them higher than you gave them...they are the cream of the crop in the East...

but...I think your assessment of the Cowboy's performance was overly generous...

I understand 2 starters on defense are out due to drug suspensions...and I wish the NFL would re-examine that rule...for every teams sake...marijuana is now legal in some form in 24 states now...maybe the NFL needs to re-think that one...

so...maybe the defense will get better...but with no secondary and basically no pass rush...then throw in a rookie QB...their season was over before they suited up...

as a 2 time SB winner...not putting Eli in this comment...but any decent QB in the NFL can shred their secondary...no lead is ever safe for the Cowboys...

your run defense was great...especially against Elliott...20 for 51 is not gonna get it done for a 1st round #4 overall pick...that's sad...I was really disappointed when they didn't take Jalen Ramsey CB from Florida State in the draft...I feel like I'm the only one that sees their deficiencies in the secondary...

Beasley...Whitten and Bailey got good grades...nobody else...

a funny side note...Cole Beasley is listed as their emergency QB...if Prescott and Sanchez go down...he's from SMU...my alma mater...5'8"s tall...emergency QB...what a joke...he can't even see over the defense...he's tiny in stature...

when Romo was healthy...I marked this as a win...then when hurt...I actually thought Prescott could manage the game with Superman Elliott...but was disappointed with Elliott's performance...

It's gonna be a long sad season for Cowboy fans...

we will call this another rebuilding year...^&grin

George...

Garoppolo looked pretty good...pretty much mistake free too...your defense stepped up big time against mighty Arizona and Palmer on the road...big win...that missed field goal was a blessing...you probably had that one marked a loser...good win...

and no homophobic implications here...but my friend asked me how come NE has all the handsome QB's...I told her to shut up...^&grin

Mike,

The $100,000,000 Jerry Reese spent on the defensive line makes it on paper one of the best in the league right now. The addition of Snacks Harrison and Ollivier Vernon, and the improvement in JPP's health, vastly improved the line, particularly against the run. I would not give up on your new running back just yet. By the end of the season, he will be regularly surpassing 100 yards rushing per game. Your rookie QB also played very well. If it weren't for drops (inside the 5 yard line on the first drive, and in the end zone [the play that was reversed]) he would have had two touchdowns in place of field goals, and the Giants, rather than the Cowboys, down a touchdown, would have been scrambling to score at the end.

Your defense is the problem. If the Giants can run for 113 yards, and gain 40 yards on the ground in a final drive to eat up most of the clock, a good running team, with a good offensive line, will eat them alive. Your secondary was also over matched, but many secondaries are over matched by Odell Beckam, Jr., especially now that he has help.

I think we should also wait on the Washington vs. Steelers game tonight before coronating the Giants. I will believe the Giants are the class of the division when they clinch the East, and not a minute before.

So far in one half of football, the Steelers have caught more breaks than most teams do in an entire season.

Roethlisberger fumbles and some idiot on the Redskins instead of falling on it tries to pick it up and run with it and fumbles it, Pittsburg recovers.

Then a Steelers WR catches a pass, turns to run and fumbles it and it's called incomplete, looked close to me.

Then to top if off, Roethlisberger whips a ball into a crowd, it bounces off of one guy into the hands of a Stooler, TD Pittsburg, are you kidding me or what.

The Steelers and the Broncos, my two favorite Patriot rivals at work this week ladies and gentlemen...........................

Yes he did, he looked great actually. Poised in the pocket, excellent job of checking down, nice touch on the ball, throws the long ball well, plus he feels the pressure and runs, not a statue back there.

And yes, I had this one as a loss, but wow, what a performance.

I liked the excessive celebration penalty on Brown 84...

they should rename that one..."the obscene pelvic thrust penalty"...

that was flat nasty...

heck of a throw and catch...
