NFL Season 2016-17 (2 Viewers)

it's true the Giants are not an offensive juggernaut...but you don't need to throw up 40 points a game when you have a great 4 man pass rush and linebackers that can stuff the run...throw in a coach that is willing to blitz some...and a decent secondary...and they can wreak havoc on any QB...

so while Eli is less mobile than most...and doesn't like to get hit...more so or anymore than any other QB...then having a play maker like OBJ...they are a definite threat to any team...

when your record is 10-5...and you have only outscored your opponents by +17 points in 15 games...then you might assume the defense has kept you in games...

the Giants won some close games this year...margin of victory was 1 point in 2 games...3 points in 2 games...4 points in 1 game...

if Eli has protection...he can get the job done...

if not...they struggle...

but that's pretty true for any team...

The Cowboys have clinched home field in the playoffs so the Lions game is basically inconsequential for them.

exacta mundo...

they may sit starters and try to heal up some...to beat the Lions means nothing to anyone except the fans...

like me...^&grin...who still want them to win...

And speaking of bad calls, Sterling Sheppard (and leave it to one of my favorite Sooners to end up on the Jints, it's bad enough Kenny Stills in on the Doofins) got mugged on that 4th down pass that was incomplete, the defender was pulling on his arm.

In days of old, you could mug a guy until the ball was in the air, then hands off or it's DPI.

Now you can mug the guy within 5 yards of the LOS, then hands off whether the ball is in the air or not.

Someone I was talking to today said that was not DPI as they were both hand fighting?

So, not only do I no longer know what a catch is, I also clearly do not know what DPI is in this league anymore.

I also do not know what offensive holding is by a lineman; can't tell you how many times a see a DLineman or Linebacker bust through the line only to be hog tied and dragged to the ground right in front of a ref and no call; Chandler Jones when he was on the Patriots would get mugged the whole game and never get a call.

I really and truly give up.

"Handfighting," that's a term bandied about by commentators this season to excuse the failure to call pass interference. Like George, I had never heard it used as an excuse before. In fact, the first time I heard it was after the egregious blown call when Richard Sherman was holding Julius Jones's arm on another 4th down play that cost a team a game. The NFL head of officials said it was a good no call because they were hand fighting. The last time I saw the rules, they reference holding and illegal contact, with no mention of the term "hand fighting." I guess the officials needed a term to use as an excuse when they don't want to throw a flag.

That's the piss poor excuse they used on that fourth down play when Gronk was dragged to the ground by a Seattle defender in the end zone to end the game; they were both "hand fighting"........................there's two examples of Seattle getting away with murder, I guess that stooge Pete the Poodle teaches them well in Seattle..........................

looks like Cleveland is the team to beat...can they still get in the playoffs if they win out?

There are eight ways for the Giants to miss the playoffs:

Today:

1. The Green Bay Packers beat the Minnesota Vikings. Packers won.

2. The Atlanta Falcons win at the Carolina Panthers on Saturday. Falcons won.

3. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers win at the New Orleans Saints. On now.

Tomorrow:

4. The Detroit Lions win at the Dallas Cowboys on Monday.

Next week

5. The Giants lose to the Washington Redskins.

6. The Packers win at Detroit.

7. The Falcons beat the Saints.

8. The Buccaneers beat the Panthers.

If any of 3-8 don't happen, the Giants are in. In other words, it's very unlikely that the Giants will miss the playoffs.

Thanks to the Saints beating Tampa, the Giants clinched this evening.

I guess we never had to worry about talking you off the ledge.

needing a win to clinch a playoff spot tonight against Cincy...

Houston is pulling out all the stops...

at halftime...

their QB is 2-7 for 13 yards...

but their running game is really clicking...

13-39 yards...

never seen an NFL halftime box score like that before...

and for the Raiders...with Carr's broken leg...their dreams may have just gone up in smoke...

Think the Patriots covered today and then some.

Just another example of how the league is so unpredictable and it changes year to year. Last year under Bowles, the Jets finished 10-6, they appeared to be heading in the right direction, Bowles was talked about as a good up and coming coach.

Now this year, they are 4-11, Bowles is in danger of losing his job, the Jets beat reporter wrote an article yesterday about how this team is a disaster.

So what changed from 2015 to 2016?

The Raiders are 12-3, another up and coming team, Del Rio will probably win coach of the year....................we'll see what happens next year, can they keep trending upward or will they crash and burn?

As Louis says, I guess the league and the owners got what they wanted, no dominant teams and things change from year to year...........

I don't really know the answer. Maybe last year was a mirage, like Rex's first year here. The QB position was settled last year and Fitzpatrick did a better than expected job. This year he reverted to form. However, the defense, Bowles' baby, is bad and several players didn't show up on time for practice. They need a lot of help on defense and in the offensive line.

Rex had two very good years back to back, 2009 and 2010, not an easy feat to get to back to back AFCCG's, both times as a wild card team.

I'm reading story after story on line where writers are raving about the Dolphins and how they are going to be a dangerous team come playoff time.

It would help if they made it first.............................:rolleyes2:

Sleelers clinched the NFC north, eliminating the Ravens with a terrific last minute touchdown drive. Congrats to Tom.

Ravens just weren't good enough to win the big games in 2016, they have a solid foundation for 2017 to which to build on.
