The Iggles coach showed balls with those two fourth down calls; the first one where they ran the trick play on the goal line and the second one with about 5 minutes left from his own 40.
Imagine what Iggles fans would have done to this guy if that second 4th down call when they were down by one failed and the Patriots had the ball on the Iggles 40 yard line, they had just ripped off three strait TD's afterall and were rolling.
IMO, he went for it for two reasons; one, he did not trust his defenses ability to get the ball back (and let's face it, as pathetic as the Patriots defense was, the Iggles defense was not much better, their linebackers and defensive backs got roasted for over SIX hundred total yards, the Patriots did not punt once all game long) and two, he had no fear that the Patriots tire fire of a defense was going to stop him.
Belichick did not coach a very good game IMO; he failed to take away the one thing the opponent does well, which has been his trademark over the years, the Iggles shredded them with that RPO offense. Also, on the trick play, the defense looked confused, he should have called a time out there, guaranteed the Iggles would not have tried to run that play again. And benching Butler for a series or a quarter to send a message is one thing, but to bench him for the whole game when he was in on 98% of the defensive snaps all year AND when his replacement was horrendous and then his replacement sucked worse, it's inexcusable not to have gone to Butler at some point.
He's a great coach, first ballot HOF for sure, but hey, everyone has a bad day now and again, even him.
The Eagles played as if they had nothing to lose. No one expected them to win (especially me) therefore going for it on 4th down was also simply a matter of "oh well, why not?" If they did not convert then we all would have said good try and been done with it.
And you are spot on about Belichick.
