Nfl season 2017-2018 (2 Viewers)

My son is a 49er fans so we purchase the Sunday Ticket and watch the games. Before he started it was painful to watch the games, except for the Giants game, which we thought would be their lone victory in 2017. However, once he won a game, it was like a different team; it had zip and the players believed. My son scoffed when I said I thought they could beat the Titans and they did and he started to believe, even thinking they could beat the Jags, which they did. It’s amazing how a good QB will change everything in a flash.

Brad:

Great post. The entire organization was flat before he arrived, the team now has a buzz about it. I think they are still a few pieces away from being a top-tier team but they are certainly no longer a doormat or an automatic win for their opponents.

The NFC was is no longer just Seattle, the Niners and Rams are now in the mix.

Amazing. And all based on 7 starts in the nfl!
Still don’t like that the pats traded him away.

The Patriots had no choice, he was on the last year of his rookie deal and his prince of an agent rebuffed the Patriots attempt to sign him to a new contract, he wanted to start somewhere and make big money. They could have kept him and franchised him, but he would have been making more than Brady as his back up, plus eating up a ton of cap space.

The Patriots have holes on defense they need to address, the back up QB is the least of their worries/concerns.

Good for him, he's going to make a ton of money now.

No pressure there kid, best of luck to you.

In other news, Garoppolo signed a 5 year $137.5 mil contract with the 49ers today. The deal is the largest in NFL history on an average-per-year basis.

wow...big bucks...with only 1/2 a season of starts...that's either crazy...or desperate...or they see something in him ultra spectacular...

Jason, there is definitely a buzz. They need to make sure they put a strong offensive line around him to safeguard their investment. I think Lynch has been doing a great job.

I hope they do well in the draft, they still had a bad enough season to have a high draft pick.

Have to give credit where credit is due; Louis has long maintained that the NFC East is far superior to the AFC East and if SB results are the benchmark, he's 100% correct.

The two divisions have met in 11 Super Bowls, the NFC East is 9-2 in those 11 games, with Dallas and the Giants winning 3 each, Washington winning 2 and now the Iggles winning 1.

The two losses were the Redskins to the 1972 Dolphins (no shame there, the over the hill gang vs the undefeated Dolphins and it was 14-7 Doofins) and the Iggles to the Patriots in the 2005 SB. That 2004 Patriots team was IMO their best team ever, 14-2 and they demolished the Steelers in the AFCCG, the 2007 team was undefeated, but struggled in the playoffs before blowing the Super Bowl to Opie in the Giants.

So there you have it, total and utter domination.

Kudos Louis.

that's where I get all my sports gossip...Teen Idol...never miss an issue...^&grin

the Super Bowl is 3 days old...not months old...let the posters have their fun...

I'm missing the point of your post...

is it that the football forum is overwhelmed with Brady and NE news...

well...that's what is happening right now in the world of football...

if the thread bothers you...there's an easy solution to resolving that...

Didn’t the Eagles WIN the SuperBowl? Isn’t that what is happening right now in the world of football? Are you saying that the Patriots LOSING the SuperBowl is of greater significance than the Eagles winning it? Huh?

What i find annoying is the teen idol-like worshipping of another human being. It’s like, grow up, dudes.

I have a wild and crazy idea! Stop reading the thread if it’s upsetting you so much. I find the way it’s getting under your skin more immature than anything being written here.

Ohh, boohoo. I said I was annoyed, not upset. That really would be pathetic.

It does sound as if my posts are getting under your skin, however. Gosh, just stop reading them.

The NFC East is usually a very tough division with a struggle from top to bottom most years (not so much over the last 7-8 years), while, other than the Patriots, the AFC East usually stinks. That being said, the Patriots, along with the Steelers, are really the two most dominant teams of the Super Bowl Era.

The lackluster performance of the rest of the AFC East (no other AFC East team has won a Super Bowl since the Miami teams of the early 1970's) is no reflection on the Patriots. They have been one of the all time dominant teams over the past 17 years. It doesn't hurt that they have the greatest coach of all time (I disagree that Belichik was outcoached, he just didn't have the talent on defense, his half time adjustments led to 3 straight touchdown drives to start the second half), and the greatest QB of the Super Bowl era (arguably the best ever, but I still think Otto Graham's 9 championship game appearances and 7 championships in a 10 year NFL career and highest single season completion percentage record, which has stood for north of 60 years, gives him the edge). Like I said before the game, George, runs like this come once in a lifetime if you are very lucky (I had the 1995 through 2009 Yankees, whose 5 WS Championships and 7 Pennants in 17 years were marred by the ALCS collapse against your Red Sox in 2004 and the 2001 painful walk off WS loss to the Diamondbacks), you have this amazing Patriots run (marred only by two close SB losses to my Giants).

Just enjoy it, stop dwelling on the painful losses, and hope there are still a season or two left in the run. You might even remember the tail end of the historic Celtics run in the late 1960's, so you kind of had two runs like this.

...................It doesn't hurt that they have the greatest coach of all time (I disagree that Belichik was outcoached, he just didn't have the talent on defense, his half time adjustments led to 3 straight touchdown drives to start the second half)........................

At that point, I knew they were royally screwed.

Read a great article that stated the refs decided in this game to let the players play; when was the last time you've seen two teams put up over 1,000 yards on offense and not one single offensive holding call, that's borderline absurd.

The writer also wrote that the TD the Iggles scored where the player bobbled the ball was not a TD, but the league was not going to overturn that and have the game decided on an overturned call, so they let is stand.

So much for all the whining I've heard this year about how the NFL greased the skids for the Patriots, some of the conspiracy theory videos on YouTube are full blown tin foil hat epics.

And you're right Louis; bottom line is your team is not going to win every WS or SB they get to, so yes, just enjoy the ride, savor the wins and go from there. We'll see how things shake out going forward, the light is showing at the end of this run, but wow, what a run it's been, just a real treat for a football fan like myself.

As far as the Celtics; not a huge fan of basketball, the only sport I never played growing up, for me it was football (pop warner, high school, college club team, amateur Boston Park league), baseball (little league, babe ruth, legion, high school, college, amateur Boston Park league) and hockey (pee wees, mini mights, high school, college).........no basketball at all. I don't remember any of the 1960's Celtics run.....................

I was talking to a good friend from the Bay Area last night. He is a HUGE Warriors fan. I asked him if he watched the Suoer Bowl, his response made me laugh:

"Yes, I watched it and I am so glad the Patriots lost. They win all the time and that kind of dominance is bad for sports...."

After the fuhrer died down over the Colts missing out on McDaniels, they've signed Frank Reich to a 5 year deal.

I'm sure he'll be their final solution and he'll do the best job eva.

Have to admit, I did nazi this one coming; a five year deal for Reich seems strange, I would have thought they'd have signed him to a 1,000 year deal for sure.

Way to go Colts......................

Odd thing about Reich (former UMd Terp Qb). He at one time owned the record for leading his team to victory in the biggest comeback in college ball and NFL ball. The college game was in 1984 against Miami. UMd trailed 31-0 at the half and Reich led the Terps to a 42-40 win. The NFL game was in 1993, Reich was the Bills Qb against the Oilers. Oilers built a 35-3 lead until Reich got to work, winning the game 41-38 in OT. These records may have been passed by now but it is neat that he once owned both records. Maybe he can help the Colts. -- Al

Ask the 49ers why combine and pre-draft scouting reports are important.

Ruben Foster.

From Yahoo Sports:

"While considered a top-10 talent, Foster fell to the end of the first round because of his character concerns as well as his injury history. San Francisco selected him 31st overall.

Both of those pre-draft concerns have already shown themselves: Foster missed six games last season, five to a high-ankle sprain and one to back spasms, and now two arrests in the span of a month."

Anybody who wants to buy a referee shirt has to go in the Eagles section
what a joke that was Foles td was illegal formation
the Steelers want to know why their td was disallowed but the Eagles td was allowed
mmm any answer ? I though the referees were favoring the patriots what happened ?
O I see it was a 8 yards reception and a 2 yards run that 's how it was describe , really , first time I hear this
well anyway Brady only QB to have 500+ yards in SB history
