Nfl season 2017-2018 (1 Viewer)

Just in case the 31 other teams in the NFL haven't figured it out...NEVER let Brady and Co. have the ball last. The Eagles got away with it, barely. I have become so accustomed to watching the Pats pull out comeback after comeback, I was completely expecting Brady to pull out the tie on the last drive. Even buried in his own end of the field with under half a minute remaining, I just knew the Pats would find a way. I was surprised that last 'Hail Mary' pass failed. Brady is simply the best in the game and has been for years. The rest of the NFL must figure out how to keep the ball away from him in the last few minutes or they will lose. The SB was only the exception that proves the rule. Fully expect the Pats to be on a mission next season and that we will be watching the Pats in SB LIII, with all the attendant fussing that the Pats dynasty will bring along. So, who will be their opponent? I know who it won't be... the Redskins.:wink2: -- Al

NE is gonna be fine...

as long as Brady is there...
and performs as he has in the past...
they won't skip a beat...

Belichick as the head coach just makes them better...

there has to be a scapegoat for the loss...
unspoken at this point...
it's Patricia...
he's had so much success in the past...
it's arguable to blame him...

Foles had the game of his life...
it happens...
Pederson took some longshot gambles that paid dividends...

they won fair and square...
got on a roll at the right time and went all the way...
just like Eli did with his 9-7 record a few years ago...

A sequel would be fun, except for the fans of both teams.

The Patriots have for whatever reason been unable to solve the RPO offense; Reid torched them with it several years ago and again this year with the Chefs, the Panthers and Texans did the same this year, you all saw what Nick Elway did this past Sunday with it.

I don't think the Patriots have the personnel to counter it; you need extremely fast linebackers who can cover, they don't have them, how many times is this defense going to get burned by a simple wheel route? The Seahags did it in the Super Bowl on their last drive prior to Butlers INT, the Falcons did it last year on their last drive but it fizzled out, the Iggles did it twice on Sunday and both resulted in long gains and led to TD's.

Yup, give riverboat gambler Pederson credit, he gambled twice and it paid off both times, we'll see how they do next year as Wentz recovers from knee surgery, but no worries Iggles fans, you've got Nick Bradshaw backing him up, we'll see if you can catch lighting in a bottle twice like Opie and the Giants did in 2008 and 2012.......................

Yup, had the Iggles right where they wanted them after that TD; 2:48 on the clock, two time outs and the two minute warning, 75 yards to the game winning TD.

After an 8 yard gain to Gronkowski, they were at 2nd and 2, Brady was looking for a home run ball there as that's basically a down to waste, but he had White wide open in the flat to his right, would have been about a 10 yard gain. The Iggles did what they had to do, forced a turnover, that was the only thing preventing a score there and they did it.

Yeah, good for them.

I'm thrilled.

Good grief. This thread reads like a Teen Idol mag but, instead of a vapid pop star, Tom Brady is the object of unhinged adoration and adulation.

Is there any point in actually playing the 2018/9 NFL season? Why not just give the Pats the Lombardi and save us all the time and trouble.. put Belichicks face on Rushmore...Build a Brady memorial next to the Lincoln...replace GWs face with RGs on the dollar bill...I mean, ****.

Nobody’s life on this site has changed or will change one iota if when the Pats win another SB title. The world will go on regardless and in 6 months most people won’t even remember who won the last SB.

I read predictions about the future in my business nearly every day. They are composed by very smart, learned and thoughtful people. Their predictions are most often wrong, many times egregiously.

Prognostications are fun to read (flying cars anyone?) but are worth exactly what you paid for them.

that's where I get all my sports gossip...Teen Idol...never miss an issue...^&grin

the Super Bowl is 3 days old...not months old...let the posters have their fun...

I'm missing the point of your post...

is it that the football forum is overwhelmed with Brady and NE news...

well...that's what is happening right now in the world of football...

if the thread bothers you...there's an easy solution to resolving that...

No, but his subsequent success at NE made him a desired property. His agent Bob LaMonte has dropped him as a client.

From ESPN:

"My word is my bond," LaMonte told Sports Business Journal on Wednesday. "Once you break that, there's nothing left."

A source told ESPN's Dan Graziano that LaMonte was stunned Tuesday when McDaniels informed him that he would not accept the Colts job and instead would stay with the Patriots.

LaMonte expected the phone call from McDaniels to be a question about preparation for Wednesday's scheduled news conference in Indianapolis, the source told Graziano. When McDaniels told him he was staying in New England, LaMonte replied that McDaniels was "committing professional suicide," according to the source.

I gotta read this story...
LaMonte has scruples...
sounds rare for an agent...^&grin...
but I'm impressed with his character...

Career suicide unless he wins!!! Winning coach, he’ll retire the pats coach 😀
Plus, nfl owners want the best. If he’s great and available in a few years, they won’t care. Hell, they sign child abusers and rapists to their teams!

According to the article they had parted ways before.

Re: Zach's post, this person doesn't sound like he has too many scruples. Once he becomes coach, Brady, likely, will be gone shortly thereafter and without the two B's I doubt you'll see anything like the success they've had, especially with a flawed person. Why would a player listen to a coach who reneges on agreements.

It may seem like I'm picking on the Patriots but nothing could be further from the truth. There is nothing that annoys me as much as people who make agreements and then decide they feel they can back out of them as they see fit, without consequence; if you make a deal you should follow through.

Zach you make a good point...
winning sure makes fans overlook your shortcomings...

while losing does just the opposite to even the most honorable of men...

he has a character flaw in my opinion...
what he did was not cool...
they had an agreement and hired the personnel he wanted...
then he reneged...
hanging them with his crew...

but he is his own man and can do whatever he wants...

it's nothing fans can't get around if he's successful....
there is no career suicide for a successful person in the NFL...
the owners and fans are just too greedy...
they will tolerate a lot from a winner...

My God.

This post is not directed at anyone in particular, just a general statement.

Listen; at the end of the day, Josh did what he felt was best for HIM and his family.

I'm pretty sure he knew full well what the implications of this decision would be, ie, the possibility that he has torched any future thoughts of him being considered as a HC anywhere else in the future (hold onto that ANYWHERE ELSE thought for a moment).

That said, as Zack pointed out, if the Patriots offense continues to perform at a high level and he applies for another opening down the road, I'm sure he'll be considered as the NFL, like any other business, is results driven.

As far as his agent; boo ****ing hoo. All that weasel is concerned about is the commission he lost on that HC contract; nothing more, nothing less, so spare me the comments of he's a stand up guy.

He's a sports agent, they don't act in the best interests of their clients, they act in the best interests of THEM, period, end of story.

Reminds me of the time that promising Angels pitcher was killed in a car accident and his agent Scott Boras was bawling his eyes out at the press conference..............yeah, I'm sure he was all broken up about that kid's tragic death, all he saw was missing dollar signs in his future.

Spare me.

Kraft, Belichick and McDaniels reportedly met for 15 hours on Monday, I am pretty sure at that meeting, it was spelled out how much longer Belichick plans on coaching, my money is one more year, then McDaniels will be promoted to HC of the NEP.

Does anyone honestly think with a strait face he passed up being a HC and the money to stay here as the OC if he did not have assurances that he's next in line?

And as far as the comments about him being a failure his first go round; Belichick was awful as the HC of the Browns and got fired.

In his second gig, he's done pretty well.........................................

And not to beat a dead horse, but it was reported by multiple sources that Greg Schiano, the DC of OSU, former HC of Tampa and Rutgers and a close friend of Belichick was coming here to be the new DC and also, the de facto assistant HC, possibly in line with being the HC.

He notified OSU he was leaving, then on Monday, he notified the Patriots that he changed his mind and was staying at OSU.

Ok fine, change of heart, do what you have to do...........does anyone honestly think him doing that torpedoed any possible NFL coaching positions for him going forward.

Anyone?

Anyone?

Bueller?

Yeah, I didn't think so.............

Most football coaches are slim at the big time level. Ask just about any NCAA recruit who gets burned by their promises. They are strictly out for themselves. And the market rewards them. Even coaches that are persistent failures like Chip Kelly, Steve "I'm buzzed" Sarkisian, and Lame Kiffin have no end to multi-million dollar offers no matter how many screw ups. It's a good gig if you can get it.

In other news, Garoppolo signed a 5 year $137.5 mil contract with the 49ers today. The deal is the largest in NFL history on an average-per-year basis.

Amazing. And all based on 7 starts in the nfl!
Still don’t like that the pats traded him away.

My son is a 49er fans so we purchase the Sunday Ticket and watch the games. Before he started it was painful to watch the games, except for the Giants game, which we thought would be their lone victory in 2017. However, once he won a game, it was like a different team; it had zip and the players believed. My son scoffed when I said I thought they could beat the Titans and they did and he started to believe, even thinking they could beat the Jags, which they did. It’s amazing how a good QB will change everything in a flash.
