47 years a Blues fan and nothing!! I know how Cubs fans feel.
In reality it,s not that bad in as much you just expect them to loose in some form.
I,m 67 years old I don,t have many "wait till next year" left.

A tough draw in the first round getting the defending Stanley Cup champs. The West is loaded with good teams. And whoever is left standing may get the Bruins who haven't lost two in a row all season.

Have to admit I don't follow the Western teams much (always get San Jose and Anaheim confused; one of them won a Stanley Cup right?), Minnesota had a team (the no stars), they moved to Dallas and dropped the North portion of their name (they won a cup too, right; beat the Sabres?), then Minnesota got another team, the Wild (aren't they the Timberwolves; no wait, they are their basketball team), Colorado used to be Quebec, they won a cup too when Ray Borque got traded there (had to leave Boston to win one), Phoenix has a team too, the suns, right? Surprised you're not a rabid Coyotes fan there Sammy, you big hockey nut you.

Anyway, as San Jose melts down, I noticed jumbo Joe Thornton plays for them; ok, that explains the melt down. He used to play for the Bruins and I bounced at a club in Boston called The Rack (an upscale pool club where a lot of Boston athletes used to hang out; it closed several years ago); one night a bunch of the Bruins showed up with Thornton, who was underage at the time. If you were underage, you couldn't drink, but you could get into the club. They used to put a wrist band on the people who were old enough to drink; Thornton borrowed someone's wrist band and tried to buy a beer and got busted, he had the wrist band on his left wrist.

One small problem; the staff that carded you at the front door (ie, ME) put the bands on your right wrist..........one of the bartenders called me over to the bar and he got upset and said "You're not going to throw me out of here are you?" and my reply was "Nah, you're too stupid for me to throw out."

Yep, now I know why the Sharks are melting down..........

The Sharks are killing me, up 3-0 now it is all down to one game. I love Game 7's, but not when my team is playing in one.

So after that riveting defeat of the Blue Jackets life gets a little easier with either the Rangers or those dirty Flyers.

Go Pens !!!!!

I agree GO PENS, but my goodness, they almost let that game slip, a 4 goal lead???? I don't have as much faith, they just seem not up, where is the adrenaline, its the playoffs!!!

That was a strange decision to start the backup goalie. He played well, but after that tying goal fell to pieces. The Kings are playing with a ton of confidence. Quick seems to be back in form. The first goal in game 7 will be huge. If the Kings get it, they can play their style and hope the Sharks panic. Playing at home is an advantage when things are going well. But when they start to fall apart it's sometimes better to be on the road.

Nice to see Malkin figured out where the net is on the rink, he hadn't found it once until last night.

Can't believe they almost blew a 4-0 lead.

Wow is Fleury a tomato can, he needs to get his head and his rear end wired together asap or else it's adios muchachos.

Agreed on the goalie point. Now what do they do? Start the guy they have pulled twice and sat down for a critical game 6 or do you start the guy who seems to be unable to handle the pressure and style that the Kings bring? What a mess.

Three game sevens tonight. Doesn't get much better than that. I picked the sharks in seven but hope I'm wrong. It would great to see the Ducks and Kings in the next round. Also pulling for the Flyers. It would be a war if they move on to play the pens.

Down in the series 3-0 the Kings came back and won it tonight. Four straight wins. No excuses and no whining about bad calls etc. LA was the better team. I wish them well in the next round and beyond.

I will not get too down about it, there are same great teams still in it and some great hockey is still left to be played. I am looking forward to watching the rest of the playoffs. With Gary’s Blues gone and my Sharks out I am now pulling for George’s Bruins and Combat’s Kings to make it to the finals.

A tough way for the Sharks to go out, but the West is a brutal conference. Three of the top four teams lost in the first round. All of those teams had 111 or more points this season. The defending Stanley Cups champs finished 5th in the West. Prediction time:

Boston 4 Montreal 1: Montreal is not that good. Caught a break with Tampa losing their goalie. The Bruins are the best team right now. They should care of business.

Pittsburgh 4 NY Rangers 2: The Pens looked mighty shaky, but they are very happy not to be playing their nemesis the Flyers. It won't be pretty, but the Pens have too much offense.

Chicago 4 Minnesota 3: The Blackhawks benefit from teams 2-4 going down in the West and get home ice. They are too good to drop this series against a lesser team.

Anaheim 4 LA 2: The Ducks give the Kings fits. Hard to hold them under 3 goals which is the mark that decides most King games. Coming off a tough 7 game series, the Kings might get rolled early.

Three game sevens last night, wow.

Too bad about San Jose, I know the feeling of being up 3-0 and losing a series, it's never pretty.

What a game in Colorado last night; good for Minnesota, they got robbed in game 5, should have won that one and the series in six games, so last nights result was fitting. Also, Colorado's first goal last night should have been waved off, that was goaltender interference.

Three of the top four teams in the west out; wow, what a war that conference is............

As much as this hurts, I really think Chicago will win the cup. They just know how to win.
Glad to see Minnesota beat Colorado, something about Colorado I just don,t like.
Sorry Panzer but ever since Thornton knocked David Perron out with that head shot a few years back I have no love for the Sharks,
I guess my team to root for will be Boston, love Marchand.

I don't know about the West that much but I can't disagree with Doug's prediction in the East. I see Boston winning it in the East.

Funny, I thought the exact same thing after last night; they finished fifth in the west and now have a clear path to the finals.

Great, just great.

Gary:

No need to apologize for your thoughts and feelings on Thornton.

I was never really happy when the Sharks traded for him. By the way, since that trade Boston has won the cup and is a perennial favorite to win the Cup while the Sharks have pretty much been one round and done each year.

No, the Giants are like leap year; they are champs every fourth year, it takes that long to find 53 horseshoes to stick you know where...............
