Yes, San Jose is a mess. It,s a shame as they have a great fan base.
Blues win, looks like they will be playing Minnesota in the first round. Isn,t Minnesota the hottest team in the league for the past 2 months? Never thought I would say that I wish we would be playing Chicago like I thougt we would.

Unless there is a miracle over the weekend, the Bruins are out of the playoffs one year from having the best record in hockey, two years from a epic SC final vs the Blackhawks.

IMO, they haven't recovered from losing to Montreal in the second round last year after being up 3-2.

As has been the case around here since Christ was in a crib, it's always about Montreal, they are truly the bane of a Bruins fans existence, just a monumentally annoying franchise to have to bang heads with every year.

So frustrating............................it's on to baseball for me......................

The Kings are on spring break now for the next six months. Some of their guys played about 120 games last year with the Olympics and playoffs. It really showed this season. They ran out of gas. It's going to be a very interesting first round since many of the bottom four teams are playing as well or better than the top teams out west. Minnesota may be the best team in hockey. Ottawa is on fire in the east. Teams like Nashville, Chicago and Pittsburgh have gone into a funk. Right now I'm going with Minnesota and Washington in the finals. If Ovechkin can't get it done this year, it's not going to happen for him.

The playoffs are here. Notoriously difficult to predict and this year particularly so with the surge from many teams at the bottom and collapse of some of the higher teams:

EAST
Ottawa 4 Montreal 2 - Ottawa has played as well as anyone down the stretch. A great goalie matchup.

Washington 4 NYI 2 - This could be the year for the Caps. Typically they are a playoff choke team but Ovechkin is on fire. It's now or never.

NYR 4 Pittsburgh 1 - The Pens ended the season in free fall. Playing the best team in the regular season = a quick exit.

Tampa 4 Detroit 3 - The Rays look good.

WEST
Chicago 4 Nashville 3 - The Hawks are always a dangerous playoff team. With Kane returning and the Preds stumbling at the end it should be close. Nashville is a great home team, though. They better hold serve.

Minnesota 4 St. Louis 3 - Tough draw getting the Wild in the first round. This one could go either way.

Anaheim 4 Winnipeg 2 - The Ducks should cruise.

Calgary 4 Vancouver 3 - The Flames were hot down the stretch.

Condolences on the Kings not making it but I guess having two Cups in the last few years helps soften the blow.

I think any team but Detroit, Calgary or Vancouver can win the cup. Being the pessimist, the Blues will win the first two games against Minnesota then loose the series. Always seems to happen. I never get excited any more to many let downs.

Bit of confusion here.

I remember when the Minnesota No Stars merged with the Cleveland Barons, two teams became one.

And they still stunk. Never got a whiff of the Stanley Cup finals, so they left the hockey hotbed of Minnesota for hockey crazy Dallas; never knew there were loads of puckheads in big D.

After moving, then win the Stanley Cup. So they left, but now Minnesota has anther team; if they had just stayed there, they'd be Stanley Cup champions.

And Calgary; the flames? What flames are there in Calgary; weren't they the Atlanta Flames? So they left Atlanta and moved to Calgary? I thought Calgary had a team at one point; did they move too? Did they move to Nashville? Nashville has a team; that's news to me, what are they called, the Nashville Dolly Partons? Must be a lot of die hard hockey fans in Nashville.

Same deal with Loseipeg; they had a team, where did they move to? Then after they lost their team, they got a new one.

Does any of this sound familiar?

It's funny; when your team is not in the playoffs, you really don't give a rats behind about the sport.

Throw those 16 teams in a hat and pull any name out; that's who's going to win this thing, a bunch of anyones can win it..................

The Caps got off with their typical playoff choke. Getting steamrolled at home by a team they handled in the regular season. I think some teams are cursed. Others like the Blackhawks and Canadians seem to be charmed. Chicago pulled their starting goalie last night after he gave up three goals in the first period and the backup then stops 42 shots including some circus saves to give them an OT win. Nashville had one of the best home records in the entire league and they blow a 3-0 lead in game one. A crusher.

Playoff hockey at it's finest last night; that Blackhawks/Predators game was great and like you said, they yank the starting goalie and the backup was brilliant, specifically in the third period.

What does smiling Joel Quinville do now; stick with the back up or put the starter back in.

Loved the mayor of Nashville imploring the crowd to sing the anthem to drown out the Blackhawk fans who cheer and clap through the anthem.

And Smoltzy looked like a tomato can last night vs the Islanders; you're right, certain franchises are just cursed...............speaking of which, the Blues play tonight........:wink2:

So the Hawks decide to start Crawford after the backup goalie came in and saved his bacon in game one. He gives up six goals making it nine in four periods. I can't do the math but that isn't good. I doubt he sees the ice again in this series. And the mighty Caps call up the Hershey Bears' goalie to start in the playoffs and he gets a win with their season on the line. I've seen Grubauer play a ton with the Bears and he is a good AHL goalie but not NHL playoff ready.

Not a lot of chatter on the playoffs.

Anyway, some good games so far. Blackhawks need to go with the backup; he stood on his head in game one and won the game for them, Crawford looked bad last night, he plays too low, top shelf and you're in business.

Canadiens; what can you say. Subban two hand tomahawk chops a guy and causes a microfracture and ligament damage, yet no suspension. If a Senator did that to him, the RCMP would have showed up at the game to arrest the guy. And naturally, Subban scores a goal last night to put the cherry on the Sundae.

Smoltzy had the sniffles last night, so the back up wins the game for the Capitals.

George:

Spot on about Subban. That was the action of a coward, and the non-suspension shows how pathetic the NHL front office really is.

Blues got their respective butts kicked tonight by Minnesota. I go to facebook and people want all the coaches fired, star players traded, blah, blah, blah. The Blues will come back and win the next game and those same people will already be lifting the cup! Every game is different. Sure I would like to win every one but so does the other team. As Yogi said it,s not over till it's over.

And Smotlzy and the Capitals win it in OT to even up the series 2-2.

Amazing how many OT winners are scored on routine shots; just keep throwing pucks at the net and something good is bound to happen.

Have to give the Islander fans credit; they've got that "Lets go Islanders!!" chant down to a science.

Pretty ironic as once the season ends, the Islanders are indeed "going", as in to Brooklyn.

So once they move to Brooklyn, will they still be called the Islanders? Are they still on an island at that point?

These are all important questions that need to be answered IMO.

I live 4 hours plus from either New York or Pittsburgh, so am not sure why I live in the TV blackout zone for watching their hockey playoff games. And as each round advances, most of the free games, become paid games on special sports networks and the such. Thank goodness for radio on my computer. By the way, I LOVE hockey, but find myself reluctant to talk smack, as humble pie tastes so sour later.. Michael

Smoltzy and the Caps laying the wood to the Brooklyn Islanders early in the third period of game 4, 3-1. Caps winning every puck battle, skating circles around Brooklyn.

Hoping the Caps advance, Ovechkin is my favorite NHL player.

They're not in Brooklyn yet but they got roasted tonight. Those NY fans hoping for a Rangers Isles series may have over reached. Still a chance though.

Since your a lot closer to the scene than I am; why are the Islanders moving, they bang out that building every night, seems like the joint is jumping, so why are they moving?

The crowd shots at Islanders games are awesome too by the way....................

I think the Islanders are moving because the arena is crumbling down and LI won,t get them a new one.
When the Blues first started in 1967 THe Arena was already 30 years old. How old was the Boston Garden?
I also found a guy who is worse than the National Anthem singer in Boston, the guy that sang for the Rangers. He looked to be 105 years old. I think he learned the song from Frances Scott Key himself.
Gary

Gary,
The old Garden was built in 1928 if memory serves me. Talk about an old barn, finally replaced it with the new TD Garden.

And yes, that guy is comical; I'm sure he's an icon, he's beloved, he's been singing the anthem forever, blah, blah, blah, but he's awful and that rug he wears has to go, that thing should come with a chinstrap.

He is beloved and has been singing there for some 35 years. He is 80 years old plus and sick. The Rangers have a replacement in the wings, but the fans are hoping this guys last year is the big one with the Cup..Michael
