NHL Playoffs (1 Viewer)

He was concussed and also has a broken jaw requiring surgery .......

He left his feet and tried to take that players head off, he's lucky the player was not concussed, those are the sort of hits the league is trying to get out of the game, no place for it.

The Ovechkin goal was just sick, he batted that puck in out of the air, he's by far my favorite non Bruin in the NHL, a couple of years ago when he was rumored to be on the trading block, I was hoping he'd land in Boston, would have been a dream come true for this Bruins fan.

As far as the refs, you hate to go there, but they were just God awful in game two Bruins/Devil Rays; Krug gets a slashing call on a swipe that hit the guy in the thigh, then a double minor was called on the Bruins when the Devil Ray player hit HIMSELF in the face with his stick, then Marchand gets hacked across the hands on a breakaway, no call, then Pasta gets cross checked head first into the boards, no call.

Just horrendous officiating so far in the series, throughout most of the playoffs to be honest, these clowns get 250K a year for this?

Hockey is a contact sport. The official three inches away didn't call a penalty on Wilson. Having some PC group review every hit after the fact is ruining the game. If that guy didn't want to get hit, he should consider another profession or maybe keep his head up when bringing the puck up the ice. Wilson didn't leave his feet until after he hit the guy and bounced off him. I'm glad to see the Pens distracted with the officiating though. Particularly after the outrageous calls they got in the finals last year. With the Pens as the NHL franchise, I'm sure they will suspend him. The irony is that Wilson isn't a particularly important guy on the Caps. He has just gotten into the heads of the Pens with some old school hockey.

The ref didn't see it because he was ducking for cover.......................I'm not a fan of guys trying to kill each other, especially with all the research on concussions and what they do to a persons health years down the line.....................hockey is a great sport, it can do without the head hunting.

Doug,
do not think you are being fair here, we all know you hate the Pens, but Wilson deserves to be reviewed, he broke the guy's jaw and then laughed at a downed player afterward. In my book, he has no class and that has no place anywhere. But more objectively, there are hits and hard play and then ones that are unnecessary b/c they cause injury. There is NO place in any sport for that. Whether he gets a game or not, I don't really care.

And REALLY, you are still talking about last year's finals????? Good Lord, the PENS are BACK TO BACK CHAMPS and the refs didn't provide that, they won the game because they were the best during that time. Crosby will go down as one of the greatest ever, joining a host of other greats. Get over it. Win or Lose this year, it doesn't matter, they are a great team and this basic version of the team has won 3 Cups. I don't love a lot of sports teams like the Patriots, but I certainly respect them for their accomplishments.

George,

Agree absolutely. I cringe now when it happens in Football too and you see guys like Jim McMahon who now can't form a sentence. I wouldn't be surprised if the NHL doesn't remove Wilson solely to cool off the situation. You have to believe somebody on the Pens is going to go after now with 2 games in a row of big hits. Human nature.

He got 3 games.

If you read his history, seems just desserts. Causing the type of injury he did, laughing at downed opponents, launching into the opponents head, being suspended 3 previous times in the past 7 months, injuring opposing players in now 3 playoff games..............Good riddance. And the Capitals coach in my opinion has about the same amount of class as Wilson. How that bum has had that much talent in Washington over the years and not won anything and kept his job is a disgrace. Sad thing is if he wins this year, all is forgotten, in my book he is still a bum with no class. Every time he opens his mouth, he sounds like a jealous loser.

I brought up last year's finals due to all the crying being done by the Pens fans about the officiating this year. Remember game six from last year? The refs waived off the only goal scored on a puck that went straight into the net. The Pens won 1-0. It was an outrageous call. Regarding Wilson. He is a physical player. He put a big hit on a guy who was unfortunately injured. The ref standing right there didn't even call a penalty. If it is not a penalty, then how can it be a three game suspension? Have some consistency otherwise is it just a subjective reaction to a lot of post game moaning. There were a dozen hits last night in the Tampa game that you could review and find some reason to suspend. And imagine in other sports suspending a player in the playoffs. Did that happen to Tom Brady in the Super Bowl? No, they moved his suspension to the next year. The same thing happened with the Astros player who made offensive racial gestures during the WS. It's ridiculous to suspend a player for three games in this series. The NHL has basically regulated fighting out of existence. Now they are PCing the physical hits. If you want the NHL to basically be European Junior league hockey in the near future with no physical play lest anyone risk injury, then things are on track. Players will skate around like a performance of Disney on Ice and score tons of goals. Like the NFL it will be about high scoring games with no defense in which teams like Tampa score ten or more goals each night.

Trotz is one of the classiest and nicest guys in all sports. The Caps won the president's cup twice in the last three years. Granted the Caps have underperformed in the playoffs but that goes back long before Trotz. What do you expect him to do here? Throw his player under a bus? Of course he is going to defend him just like every other coach in the league would defend their own players. That makes him a bum?

Yes he is a bum. Being stuck in caps land I hear it all the time. He is not well liked by their fan base and since I am stuck seeing the local coverage I tend to agree with it. I begrudge him nothing in his personal life but his professional comments make him a bum in my eyes. As I said before there should be zero tolerance for head hunting in any sport, Wilson is more than a hard hitter, he is a repeat offender and I am glad they made an example out of him. When the Steelers a few years ago knocked a raider receiver out, mike Tomlin was one of the first to say it was wrong and not part of the game with the new rules.

The problem with Trotz is that a coach can defend his player while being concerned for an injured opponent. In this instance he hasn't done that.

Trotz is out of there after this season. Unless they win the cup, which they won't.

Tough loss in Beantown last night. Good game but the Bruins are in mucho trouble now. Huge games tonight!

Well, looks like the Black and Gold of Boston affected the Black and Gold of Pittsburgh, we are now in must win to make it go to 7. As I have said to the point of a broken record, the odds are against us this year. Would hate to lose to the Caps, but winning 9 out of 10, guess it may happen some time.

Neither team in the San Jose Vegas series has won 2 games in a row.

I hope that trend continues on Sunday.

I thought the Pens played some of their best hockey last night. The final score was not indicative of the game with a couple of meaningless empty netters. The series is definitely less physical without Wilson. It's more junior league hockey now than NHL, but those are the cards being dealt. The Caps have choked many times before when up 3-2 and even 3-1, so it's far from over. If it goes seven, it will be a great game with so much at stake. I don't think either of these teams are winning the cup though. Vegas and Winnipeg look like the best teams at this point. The Jets absolutely smoked the Preds in Nashville last night.

Adios Bruins, they lost to the Devil Rays today 3-1 and the series 4-1.

Not much you can do when you have to beat both the Devil Rays and the Refs, they were piss poor all series long, today took the cake; a penalty was called on a Devil Ray as he hauled Marchand down, then a penalty was called on Marchand for unsportmanlike conduct, guess he fell the wrong way when he was dragged down and the official did not like it.

What a farce.

Would be great to see two hockey blue bloods like the Devil Rays and the LVGK meet in the finals, two tradition rich, long standing franchises with rabid, knowledgeable fan bases like that would be a treat to watch play.

I'm done with playoff hockey; when it resembles the WWE thanks to the brutally pathetic officials, it's time to find something else to do, that double penalty today was the clincher for me, I shut it off after that one, enough is enough.

Congrats to Vegas on their series win over San Jose. The Sharks lost because the Golden Knights are the better team.
