Over the past few months, my personal observation is that the starting bid prices of some Trophy sets and figures have increased quite noticeably. It is a free market and sellers can ask what they want. However, I think it tends to dampen the overall bidding process. The secondary market for Trophy is "overheated" and can do with some cooling off.

IMHO, Raymond.:)

I will be very interested to see what this does for:wink2:

Hi Martyn,

Before all else, a very Happy Easter to you and your family.

Garrison Toy Soldier in Brisbane had one PW1 set listed at $600.00. I just checked and it is no longer listed, so I presumed sold.

Cheers, Raymond.:)

A Very Happy Easter to you and your family also Raymond

I think PW1 is an iconic set, it was used on the cover of early Trophy catalogues and is instantly recognisable to Trophy collectors.

It sold for $1,700 {eek3}

I have a friend who has one and is going to ask me to sell it. If anybody is interested, please contact me :smile2:

I honestly think that was cheap. I figure this one will hit $2500 if it is complete and pristine.

Tom

It is a great set but has never been really popular. I doubt it will go for 600 USD.

That could be the reason Lynn has several sets of it along with EQ85 - FRENCH GRIBEAUVAL CAISSON

I do not value it so high. It's quite desirable but not rare in my book.
Well, I always heard the stories about " how limited production of this set was" ^&grin
However I have seen at least 10 of them (plus I have 2 in my "watch" list)...
and I am talking about version 1... the second version was quite different....

From other hand the Alamo facade (see Tommy post in another thread) is very very scarce.
Just my 2 cents

Al, auctions can vary by the day, but I think a USA seller, properly photographed in mint condition can get 2500. I will never sell my gate, I actually have an add on wall so it is a larger gate. I love the piece.

Tom,
I respect you opinion very much but kind of disagree :) What prevented the US buyers to go higher on this auction? Shipping cost was very fair and the pictures were quite good ^&grin. This set was "well distributed" in the US through 5-6 Trophy dealers. I own 2 of these gates and probably will sell them if offered $2,500 each..^&grin
I am pretty sure that we will see more of them at eBay soon.
All the best

Al,
I only base my opinion on the facts of when I consigned and sold that Boxer Rebellion collection for someone, the prices realized were on average $400 per 6figure sets (a lot unboxed and highest price was $675) and 2 of the buyers while discussing toy soldiers offered $2500 and $2750 for the Gate that I own. As I said, auctions will vary by the day, but as a friend once told me who sells used cars for a hobby, I quote: "there is a rear end for every seat". Basically, if you have patience, you can get a price. It all depends on which way the sun shines on any given day.

If you have a pristine gate setup you do want to sell, I can easily contact those folks and see if still interested in buying.

I do agree that I am not a buyer at these price levels and that they may go up and down over time, but they may not vary too heavily as I still see good prices achieved or at least more than I want to pay!!!:p

Thank you for your input , Tom.
I completely agree with you on eBay "always changing" prices. I guess, I know very well the guys you were talking about. The problem is that sometimes the exitment to buy evaporates quickly when they see this desirable item for sale 3 weeks in a row, which makes it less desirable, I guess ^&grin. Another problem I encountered : some Trophy collectors have problem to put money where their mouth is.
Please do get me wrong, I am not trying to position myself as the "know-it-all" expert on Trophy miniatures, quite opposite I learnt a lot from our fellow collectors (you are included) at this forum, and I am always interested in other peoples inputs.
I hope we will have time to chat in person next week at the Valley Forge show.:)

Al, cool deal, definitely come by the Figarti table, I will be the guy in the figartil uniform (blue button down and logo), would love to meet and talk shop! I am sure you know the 2 buyers!!! as they have probably bought a lot of your stuff! and outbid me!!

Good deal and see you next week
Tom

The prices for Trophy are a bit beyond what I am prepared to pay. I have now officially abandoned the quest for Trophy sets. I am fortunate that I have a big collection which I acquired during the heyday at retail. If a dealer gets a few sets and contacts me then I will buy those but I cannot get involved in bidding wars. To me Little Legion is the logical next choice and I will pursue those sets. As for the Trophy Boxer range well it was the one range I never got round to acquiring and it is too late to start now. Perhaps Mike Norris can be encouraged to take up where Len left off with the Boxer series.

I finally found my email from Len dated August 4, 2006 as to some production figures as follows: Steam traction engines=64; Leopard=28; Eagle=35; Lion=18; Victoria=66. Horse drawn buses=156 and WW1 Lorries=139. None about the dhow or small Nile gunboat.

Now that is really interesting information.
Thank you for posting it.

Thought there might have been more Steam traction engines Tommy
