finally put my dog to sleep Saturday...broke my heart to lose my friend...but he became helpless at the end...
blind...deaf...quit eating...all he would do is sit in my lap and sleep...
17+ years old...Boo was a great companion...I miss him horribly...
when it came time to euthanize him...I took him to the vet...I was doing okay...til I saw this pic on the wall...
then I got a lump in my throat and couldn't talk...I think it's called "Dog Heaven"...anyway...the picture really screwed me up...
best dog I ever had...goodbye Boo...

Feel for you Mike.
Yes we come to bond and love our pets and they become very much part of our family, and we mourn their loss as such.
Sorry to hear of your loss mate.

Sorry Mike. We have cats and I’ve had to go through that experience several times. It’s very tough and never easy. They’re as much part of the family as my son or wife.

I hope you find a new friend soon.

Brad

Sorry to hear that Mike. One of the worst experiences is having to put down a pet. They are like family members. We had two cats for almost two decades that had to be put down just a couple months apart. Just terrible. I don't think I will be getting any more pets. They are great company but it's just a lot of emotion to expend. And I have to admit it's nice to not have to worry about finding a place to take care of them when you travel and the vet costs (which are unreal).

I have found nothing harder than having to decide to put down a pet. You know you don't want them to suffer but you just don't want to let go. It breaks my heart to do it and it NEVER gets easier. So sorry for your loss Mike.
Mark

They really do become part of your family. I love my miniature schnauzer buddies. They are loving.
I'm sure Boo is playing in doggie Heaven with the other good dogs. He will wait to be with you again.
Dad and I are very sorry for your loss. We're glad he made it to 17 - 4 years longer than our oldest little buddy was - but it's never long enough.
Thanks for posting Boo's pic and Dog Heaven. You made the right decision, it sounds like he was suffering.
Dad sends his heartfelt Best Wishes your way and we hope you can have a Merry Christmas anyway.

Sorry to hear that Mike,
I know how important a pet can be in a household.
My cat Natasha is so much a part of our life it is hard to imagine life without her, even though I know that day is coming…

Very sorry to hear of this Mike; as others have said, the bond we form with our pets is something you can't understand unless you own one.

That picture...............................oh boy.

That's the rainbow bridge; it's a poem about pets, basically saying when you die, your pets will be waiting for you at the rainbow bridge, no more pain for them, just happiness and joy once they see you and you are reunited.

Google it and read it, it's soul crushing..................

We had 5 cats at one point, am down to one, the other four are buried at a pet cemetery................."Angel Memorial".............it's nicer than some human cemeteries.

When you walk in, you go over the rainbow bridge, I've been there a number of times visiting my cats, it's a very sad place, but I like to go and just be there for them as pets give you unconditional love; they ask for nothing, but give you love.

Every time I go over that bridge, I lose it, so, so sad.

Hang in there Mike, you were there for your pet at the end, someday you'll see him again....................

As we chatted on the phone Saturday, my condolences once again for the loss of your long time friend and 4-legged companion.

Mike

Mike,

He was one lucky dog to have been with you. I know you always did everything that was good for him. He had the life of longevity that we as humans can hope for.

May You Find The Peace You Need,
Steve

Feel for you Mike, one of the hardest things in life. My only comfort in these situations, was the fact in my mind, I gave the best possible way of life that I could, for my best friend and family member. Stay strong. Robin.

Sorry for your loss, Mike. My wife and I have had to put down several pets over the years and it tore our hearts out each time, never getting easier. Glad you had so many years of happiness with him. -- Al

Mike, I'm so sorry to read of your loss. We lost one of cherished Short Haired Pointers last yr, aged16, and will probably lose the other this coming yr, also aged 16. We're lucky to have these pets in our lives and will remember them forever. Chris

So sorry Mike they give so much for little in return and loosing them is so painful.
The beauty of a dog is they all have their own personality and if and when you get another he/she won't replace this one but bring more joy and help you heal.

I agree. You're not to old for a new friend! (I mention this because people said that to Dad & Mom, who are both a bit more full of years than you).
Our new girl is crazy but we're glad to have her with us (usually). I'm still sad about my buddy who we had to put down over a year ago. He will always be my best friend.
Dad still hopes to see his first (of 8) mini schnauzers - who was 7 when an epileptic fit took him (Dad was 11) - when we all cross the Rainbow Bridge.
Our pets are so innocent and loving, it is hard to do what you had to do. But Boo thanks you for it.
Don't be too sad. It never helps me.
Paddy
