At the Battle of New Market, VA, May 15th 1864, Confederate General John Breckinridge orders "Put the boys in" referring to the VMI cadet battalion to plug a gap in his lines. The Cadets, as young as 15, lost 10 killed and 47 wounded out of 257 present for duty. Print by Don Troiani
