This is a bust (yes....I do like them!) I recently got. This is a 19th Century Mountain Man from Castle Miniatures and painted by Olga Zernina in Russia

I like busts too and you don't see all that many of them featured on this forum. Your mountain man has been expertly painted and I'm sure he adds his own visual value to your displays.

My Russian Vityaz Roman Catapult has finally arrived after traveling around Russia for two months - man was that stressful!

This is PB200. Been on the "want" list for a long time and finally in my cabinet!

Congrats Zach!! It's such a wonderful diorama. The wood base is a lot nicer than the big metal plate you typically see these on.
I'm so happy to hear it arrived unscathed. Thanks for the pics!

Love the figure and painting Joe - but can you tell us a bit more about him?

I looked around the web a bit - and found a Vityaz ME31 - labelled Henry Plantaganet, Duke of Lancaster - which looks to be the same figure - but painted quite differently. The shield ( and horse caparison) was in plain red, with the three lions, differenced by three points in blue, bearing yellow fleur-de-lys?

Was there an alternative painting for this figure? jb

Good grief! That's beautiful.
If you'd recommend the top three 1/30th Russian companies, who would they be?

I prefer on normal(ish) TS stands rather than those big wooden plinths.

I haven't bought any Russian figures but this thread has piqued my interest so much I'll have to get a few.

There are many great artists out there willing to do commissions, but if you're talking about a true company, the cream of the crop is probably Russian vityaz, but very expensive. A single figure can be over $500. In the area of $145-250 for a single figure, you have aeroart (very easy since on eBay and based in the USA ). In between the two, I like nevskaya miniatura.

If you're looking for painted castings, check out Kolobob on eBay. He has many levels ranging from $99 and up. Kolobob is also an agent for vityaz

I just noticed your in Hong Kong, so, I recommend the same companies, but aeroart being based in the USA probably doesn't matter.

Many thanks. Will look into your recommendations.

I'll be in London a few times this year and hopefully I can find a stockist there that has some to view first hand.

I've no real problem paying $100-$500 USD for a piece as an object d'art but the pictures on many websites leave a great deal to be desired.

Spent hours looking at FL's website, but there shots look like they've been put through a 'cartoon' filter on a smartphone.

Further to my picture comment. I've just been looking at Kolobib's E-bay pages and the picture quality is very good.

Is he a painter of other's castings? I mean when it says '1' does it mean one or are there hundreds painted by others out there?

Kolobob is not the actual artist but rather a broker/agent. He sells the following types of figures: original kit figures painted by Russian artists,
"re-casted" kit figure copies by EK castings painted by Russian artists, and high end figures from Russian Vityaz and Nevskaya Miniatura as mentioned by Zach. Production numbers are not known, but for Vityaz and Nevskaya they are relatively low. The kit figures and recasts could be quite the converse though. There's no way of knowing. However, when Kolobob says "1", if I'm understanding your question correctly, this means the figure is unique due to it's painting and you will receive the actual figure shown in the images. For instance, he doesn't have 10 figures all painted the same way.

I hope this helps!

Vicknor,

I must agree with you; FL's photos are not the best. I collect FL and find their figures to be darker than their stock photographs suggest.

These are the Aztec Warriors made by Arsenyev for The St. Petersburg Collection. They certainly add a little color and personality to the shelf!
They are AZ1, AZ2 and AZ3

I've been waiting for this figure for a long time and finally Thor granted my wish (as well as Henry II's!)
This is Aeroart's Eleanor of Acquitaine. Figure # 6380

I had been eyeing these camels for a long time and when i saw it in person at MFCA I knew I had to actually pull the trigger and buy one! Along with a little peer pressure from Thor...I did! {sm4}

This one was a total random purchase. I never even knew it existed. Wandering around MFCA, I checked ebay and there it was and I loved it. I have nothing similar in my collection and by now, you all know, if it's different, it's for me!!!!

This is another that I hadn't seen for quite some time and always loved. I stumbled upon him at MFCA as well. I couldn't quite nail the photo of this one, but eh umbrella is quite a piece of work!
