Love the figure but green is not the color of the Holy Roman Emperor, its gotta be red baby the color of Royalty and other worldly power. :wink2:

Gebs,
They have a really nice red version of this figure too. :smile2:

Hi Joe,

I thought they might Thor is a very knowledgeable fellow. Not that I don't like the green Robe but Red is definitely the color for Charlemagne. I do see they now have a red robe version up for sale, may have to add him.

He is and never was Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire . He is the first Emperor of Occident ( Carolingian Empire ) / . The term Holy Roman Empire was used only from the XIII century onward .
The Carolegian Empire was bigger, including all actual France, the Holy ... covered the same territories but not the main part of France ( East of the Rhones only )

Costume : he was not the kind of king wearing gold, silver, embroidery but simple one in linen and cape made of otter skin, according to Eginhard who lived at the court and wrote about that , he would make some effort when encountering ambassadors, wearing richer clothes .

But it's a nice painting job based on painting done hundreds of year after

Here a reconstitution of a Carolingian living at the time and fitting the description of Eginhard

I thought he was crowned Emperor of the Romans by the Pope Leo on Christmas day in the year 800. Whether or not Pope Leo used those words when he put the crown on his head or not I don't know. Its what has been in use in my life time to describe the title and position he held also the Vatican considers that day as the founding of the Holy Roman Empire so there must be something to it.

I'm certainly not gonna argue either way. I will just say there are reasons the great Masters from Raphael to Durer used a red and gold robe when portraying the man. Maybe its just their taste and I doubt that but its mine as well. Like I said Green looks good maybe a royal blue would also look nice. But for me red and gold please. :wink2:
