I received this message from WW2 and in our discussion we have decided to bring it to the forum for answers and to help others too. This is our conversation.
WW2: I notice that you have the kc winter tiger also. I recently discover that in mine the gun droops down a little and doesn't stay horizontal, unlike my Kursk or snow tiger. I wonder if yours is same or there is a problem with mine.

Thanks, Regards,
Thomas

Bayern: Do you mind if we put this on the forum for others to read as I have the problem and some ideas on why it happens. Others could benefit too.

WW2: Sure no problem. I pm Wayne also, and he kindly replied echoing the same issue. It might just be a problem with the older versions of kc tiger tanks, as this problem was clearly solved in the case of Kursk and snow tigers, etc.
I'm actually going to visit the kc museum in hong kong next week and see if the same problem is present in their winter tiger collection.
Keep you posted....

Thomas, I have this same problem with all of my KC tanks except my Winter Tiger and short stubby barrel Panzer IV Afrika model. I do not have any real new tank releases so the problem may be resolved. However, I bought for a song a broken long barrel Panzer awhile back and discovered the design problem was that the spring in the barrel was too small/ weak. I found a larger spring out of a pen believe it or not and it worked. However, you cannot do this on a new one, or you would have to break it apart to get in there.

Hope this helps. Anyone else got any ideas?

Ludwig

The only tank I purchased that has a drooping barrel is the K&C sherman firefly. I purchased 2 at the same time and both droop. It was difficult but I fixed them myself. I never purchased the winter tiger but a friend of mine did and he has the exact same problem. Keith

Got the same problem on my firefly but how did you fix it?

I put a piece of small metal under the barrel in the same color then had to put camo bushes to cover it because the fix was obvious.

It's a very good topic as many AVFs have drooping barrels. But I don't think it is every AFV of a model type. Two of my Fireflys drooped but on checking with Rob I think he said his was fine - and I think Mitch had a good one too. It's not that the problem is confined to the old models because new models can have the same problem.

One approach is to find out how the mechanism is designed and constructed and if their is any way to tighten up or stiffen the movement.

I wonder if K&C can comment on their models.

I would guess that some models of the other manufacturers would have similar instances.

Confirmed. No such problem for me with any AFV from either K&C or Figarti. All barrels stiff and upright....no its too easy a joke:wink2:

Even the AK 10.5 cm gun? That one is notorious for being loose.

personally no issues with any from K&C. The field guns I have from the AK range were overtly stiff and not loose. I have repaired a few for people on here and many elsewhere. depends on what work you are willing to do or, can do but, a simple and easy way to rectify this issue is to use blue or white tac and insert it under the mantlet pushing it in with a fine tool like a art spatula this will allow it to position in the way you want and, be easily removable. I know twelve people who have the winter tiger who I have seen and I now have two and there are no barral issues so, it may be down to either a few becoming weak over time or, as I know some do, playing with theirs and, I know this from fixing some continued movement over time loosens the guns causing them to droop.

Thanks for tip mate , saying that mine are both new and it not a big deal

Nice to read the responses. It's clear that this isn't a "new" or "old" issue. I think Mitch way maybe the simplest way without accidentally breaking the barrel!!!!

Rob!! You back on too!

Great man. Somehow I just knew you would not have this problem with yours.;)

Ludwig!!!!:wink2:

It's no surprise to me either Ludwig. You see I buy my K&C from K&C UK, the Dispatch dept of which is run by a talented young man by the name of Dispatch Dave. Now in over one hundred orders he has never sent a broken, damaged, chipped item much less with anything drooping!! Quality service .

I'm also similarly lucky re Figarti. Not only does Clive do a spiffing job in quality control but the UK items are I believe flown in and don't have a long sea voyage at the perils of the waves and as a result no breakages for Rob= happy collecting bunny.

This is an interesting thread as I have a quite a bit of tanks and armored vehicles and have never encountered one of these barrel issues. No drooping here.
Everything is straight as a board ^&grin

terry...

I recently had a damaged sherman 105. the way this one is designed must be similar to other allied tanks so, the turret has two holes bored out of the polystone. Inside are placed two metal springswhich go level with the side attachments which have small holes in them. The mantlet and barral are one piece and, what you have to do is push in the mantlet against the springs and line up the holes either side and, then place a small metal bar through them which keeps them all in place.

The problem I have found in repairing these is that the springs are often a little to long which causes huge amount of tension and sometimes snaps the sid parts which the bar goes through. its a simple way to keep the gun in place. I would presume that every AFV has this design but, have not taken a lot apart and have only repaired a small section of AFV's

None of the AFVs i have ,have got drooping barrels
must just be luck:wink2:

How long before someone calls for AFV; Armoured Fighting Viagra :wink2:

I must be unlucky as even HB Panther had the problem

Sorry to hear that Neil, I have their Winter Panther and its one of the best things they ever released in my view.(looks even better with K&C Winter Tank riders)
