Re: Battle for the Barrikady Gun Factory, Nov.'42

I don't have anything more than I said yesterday and thanks Konrad. Amusing that the principal combatants should find nothing wrong. What I find sad is that this thread containing Frank's and others collectors' wonderful photos have been ruined by this needless bickering.

Last word from me on this. You may now resume your arguments.

That is why I tried to have the scale thread as a general discussion topic in the general discussion area, which is now the only place I will continue this size topic - in an appropriate manufacturer neutral thread.

Thanks Brad. I tried keeping the topic on the general discussion thread, but Rob and Oz have now hijacked that thread to talk about airfix plastic kits.:D:D

Re: Battle for the Barrikady Gun Factory, Nov.'42

Why waste all this energy on comparing the two companies. FL has jumped head first into the WW2 market with a outstanding line of figures and vehicles which most of us have agreed are a wonderful addition to the field of collecting. They look FANTASTIC...... We all have agreed on this. We should concentrate on what we would like to see produced. Photos of our dio's. FL has pick for the lack of better words a GREAT BATTLE. Matt has picked STALINGRAD to showcase his talents in the WW2 figure industry which to me has been LONG OVERDUE and OVERLOOKED.........
The sad part is now when I come on this tread to read something interesting pertaining to the title, all one reads are the comparisons of two companies. WHO CARES at this point.
FL has the legs to stand on it's own and has taken the time to get it right the first time. I eagerly look forward to the future figures produced for the Stalingrad line and the diorama's created by FL or collectors showcasing their figures.

Re: Battle for the Barrikady Gun Factory, Nov.'42

Good Question.....Looks like FOV Panzer to me.....

Yep, it's a Forces of Valor Panzer IV Ausf F. I had a large 1/50 scale Solido tank collection until FOV tanks got me back into 1/32 scale. I had the entire first series of the FOV military vehicles including this one. Great models and good value in the US but they cost over $100 in Australia

Could not help but notice this is first time I have seen a Moderator "moderated".
Other than that no comment :D

He wasn't exactly moderated, I just deleted his note that he was locking the thread since it was reopened. But yeah, does look kind of funny.

terry,

perhaps these are the pictures you require?

These are quite good pictures. The FL figures with the FOV PzIV look pretty cool to me.
I'm in no way a rivet counter, to me it 's what looks good that counts and these figures and tank look cool together.
I wonder if FL figures would go well with FOV in general?

I think this is an important point - it's what looks good to the individual collector that really matters. If you think our figures look good with the FOV Panzer IV, then you would feel that they would go well with FOV vehicles. So in the end it all comes down to personal preference and what may look right to you. For many this may be a bigger factor in their collecting than what may be strictly accurate or not.

In terms of the figures, the FOV figures that I've seen are too small next to our figures. See the image below of a 1/32nd FOV figure next to one of our figures...

In regards to the FOV Panzer IV, though it might look good (and I certainy agree - from a purely aesthetic point of view, the images do look good), in reality our figures are too big relative to the actual size of a Panzer IV. That can easily be seen by the size of the FOV figures which are scaled to go with their AFV's. But perhaps if you are used to seeing figures/afv's scaled like this, it looks right/good. Again, how it looks to you is really all that matters as the individual collectors are the ones who have to look at something on their shelves.

First Legion as a company have tried and will continue to try to be as accurate as we can be. We'll never be perfect, there is no such thing, and given time I'm quite sure we'll gaffe something up pretty badly. But our perspective on such debates as "toy soldier" or "scale model" is that we see no reason why you can't have both in a single product.

Just closing the loop, to us, the images below are what looks right and this is what is based on historical reality as far as we can tell. So we'll continue doing what we're doing with our WWII range and hope that you all like it and, if you don't, that you at least appreciate the amount of research and effort that went into it. Finally, there is no reason why the below images can't look right and the image with the FOV panzer IV can't "look" right as well. That's entirely up to the individual collector and is really a separate issue from what "is" right. And, for many, the latter may not matter much at all anyway.

Matt,
Very nice photo's as I have mentioned earlier this is the First Vehicle that FL has produced and I for one thing it looks pretty **** good and as First Legion is constantly making improvements with each new release ,I think as time goes on you can only win more and more collectors into giving FL a try .And I don't think they will be disappointed once they do I look forward to what will come next. ;) Gebhard

I must say those images look very good to me, speaking as a non-WWII ground forces collector.
