From the Northwest Frontier to more quiet duty at the palaces...

Great sets, and perfect choice of background.....Agra and the Taj brings memeories:salute::

Did someone say that they liked a piper or two?? Well - we can't ALWAYS be fighting!

Well here's a few - along with Drums, Bugles - and a full Military Band thrown in for good measure.

They are the 2nd Battalion of the Highland Light Infantry - shown here as they would have looked on Home Service ( whilst the 1st Battalion are away on Foreign Service in India). That's why they are in full Dress, and not wearing the FS helmet.

Most of the pieces originated in Dorset - though most have been modified before assembly and painting. jb

I have quite a few glossy K & C pipers (although not as many as Johnny's {eek3}) so will try to get those on.

Here's another Victorian Band - this time - The Gordon Highlanders, in kilts rather than the trews of the HLI.

Again, most parts for these castings came from Dorset Soldiers - though a common modification is to add the "wings" on Pipers/Musician shoulders, which are made from scratch. The pipers also needed a dirk added to the belt _ I used a modified bayonet.

Had never seen the 2nd Battalion in full dress before ( just as illustrations in books ) they look very nice indeed....A powerful message they must have been given to friend and foe when they marched into the filed.......

When Prince Albert was collected from the dockside to meet up with his bride-to-be, Victoria - the 11th Hussars provided the Escort. I like to think that the "Cherry Pickers", as they became to be known - would have had their Regimental Band there.

This is my version of what that spectacle might have looked like. Note the Escort at the rear of the band - and the four dismounted figures at the back of the picture. Again - all made up from bodies/heads/arms-musical instruments etcetera - and modified from mostly Dorset Soldiers basic pieces - or recast Britains pieces. jb

I found the background picture in a search of the Internet, I typed in South African veldt. Once I found the pictures I saved them to my computer

The grassy road is indeed JG Miniatures

THE EGYPTIAN WAR 1882

The Moonlight Charge at Kassassin Lock 28th August

General Graham had to secure the Lock and its precious contents – drinking water – without which Wolseley’s campaigns against Arabi Pasha had no hope of succeeding.

Graham was out-numbered five to one and was being hard pressed by the Egyptians. As darkness fell, the Household Cavalry including squadrons from the Horse Guards and the 1st Life Guards led by Lieutenant-General Sir Drury Curzon Drury-Lowe GCB (of AZW Battle of Ulundi fame) attacked by moonlight, the famous Moonlight Charge. The Egyptian Army fled the field.

The defence line in the pictures, is being held by Bedouin and Berber Arabs, allies of Arabi Pasha, they are
under the joint command of an Egyptian Officer and Berber Sheriff (Chief)

The successful charge opened the route to Tel EL-Kebir :wink2:
