Lots of action going on in those photos - artistically done. Great story . . . Always looking forward to the next pic in the series.

Looks great as usual Lt. I always enjoy your photos and you were my first inspiration.

Commander Brackenbury stands tall among the others as the British Army and Naval Brigade laager at a place they called "Gin,Gin, I love you". The Zulu army is approaching through the mist at 0600hrs and the 91st Highland Regiment has the south side of the laager, while the Commander has the south-east corner to contol with the Gatling.

Not with a 90th Light Infantry mounted member of the IMI in the process of cutting him off during the rout of Ulundi! All three are Little Legion creations.

I found this in an old steamer trunk that Polarbear sent me. It appears to be an early morning picture of the fight at Intombi River. I can't make anything out on uniforms but I'm presuming these are members of the Staffordshire Volunteers (80th Regiment) On the back it says "Mar.1879-Right before I ran" Thanks Randy!

How cool is that  Seems there have been a lot of these old pictures surfacing as of late. :D

Really well done! I wonder who took the photo? I know Harry Flashman was there, and made it out alive, perhaps it was him . . . :p:D

Your photo is a treasure. I'll have to check the attic to see if there are more.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Two days after the disaster at Isandlwana, The British forward supply depot at Helpmaaker is abuzz with stories of doom and gloom. A Colour Sgt. of the
1st Battalion 24th Regiment drills his squad in front of the recently fortified laager at the tiny frontier "town". Helpmaaker had no more than three or so houses and a store located on a perpetually windswept hill. Soldiers built up the bagged redoubt to almost eight feet high. Rumor was rampant that the whole of the Zulu Army would pour into Natal at any moment. The privates in the background are working hard to outfit sections of the laager with pre-positioned ammunition crates and extra Martini-Henry rifles.
