Things that annoy me (3 Viewers)

Agreed, that does seem extreme and unreasonably specific, is that related to the private health insurance in the US? I sometimes forget that the US has such an expensive health system.

My Doc tells me Medicare, the federal health insurance for oldies like me, requires that he ask these questions. If not, he could lose his Medicare certification. When I had private insurance they weren't this nosy.

Sometimes I give goofy answers, just to see their reaction.

The doctors I’ve seen asked these questions when I was working. The receptionists give the form to the Drs. but in my experience they don’t look at them.

The endless staff shortages at restaurants and other businesses. Where have all these workers gone since the pandemic? I imagine these are not the most coveted jobs but someone was always willing to do them rather than starve. That no longer appears to be the case.

Bob, I'm happy I'm not the only person that sometimes gives goofy answers, makes me feel almost normal. I've never had any response to my crazy Religion answers or the One time when I stated I was Aboriginal, I was disappointed the government didn't send me any money for that, maybe they just don't read the answers {eek3} ^&grin

But wait, there's more, in everyday conversations I sometimes say goofy things or disagree with someone to start a debate or just for a joke. Most people learn not to take me too seriously, and usually enjoy the joke or even a debate. Of course some people get angry when you disagree with them, even for a laugh, especially women, who rarely appreciate humorous responses to their questions, as most guys here would know :wink2:

I thought that was just an Australian issue, unlike the US we don't tip in Australia, at least it's not expected. Even though waiters etc earn a reasonable income here due to good minimum wages there's still a staff shortage and waiters seem to be less experienced now.

For example I went out for dinner last night at a pretty expensive restaurant. I ordered Spanner crab with Garlic Fettuccini, and while ordering I noticed that 'Spanner crab' wasn't actually listed on the ingredients, now that's curious I thought, and more than a little misleading. I'm sure an experienced waiter would have provided a terrific reason, this one just gave me a blank look.

Dancing, on morning news and daytime talk shows. None of the hosts or guests just walk out anymore. They dance out, then dance with the host. Barbara Walters never danced!

Depends on who is dancing. I remember watching the news in LA. They always had some hot woman to be the weather girl. That was hunky dory to me.

"Barbie" has supposedly made over $1 billion dollars. I told my wife before it came out that it would be a huge bomb because there was no apparent audience and it looked asinine. Who is going to see this movie? I can't imagine any male going to it. I can't imagine anyone under the age of 20 who even remembers "Barbie." I also told my wife no one would see "Oppenheimer" because the audience has dumbed down and didn't have a clue. But it made $500 million. The largest grossing WWII movie in history.

Went with wife and one son to Oppenheimer yesterday and thought it well done. There were several women in line to watch Barbie dressed in pink.
As far as women under twenty remembering Barbie, you have to know older women are giving their daughters and granddaughters Barbie. Our 7 yr old granddaughter has Barbie dolls.

I have not been to the movies since the pandemic except to buy popcorn from the concession stand.

I buy it and bring it home to eat while I watch movies etc. on my couch.

I wouldn't pay to watch either movie, too many better movies available online. I've seen some reviews on Barbie, apparently not as woke as most people suspect.

I've only been to a handful of movies over the last several years, but the enjoy the experience. The one odd thing now is that you have to pick a seat when you buy your ticket. And you can end up next to some weird folk. Some of the older theatres are showing classic movies. That's a nice experience to see them on the big screen.

"Oppenheimer" is pretty good. If you can see it in IMAX, all the better. It is three hours long and jumps around a bit, though. So it's nice to have some understanding of the subject matter before watching the movie. The book "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer" is a good one.

We go to the movies once or twice a yr to see something like Top Gun Maverick on the big screen or to take the grandkids to see Mario Brothers. Our local small town matinee tickets are $6 ea. Pretty reasonable even if the theater is a bit run down. Chris

I don't doubt Oppenheimer is a good movie but there's so much available on the subject on YouTube, I watch more Docos on Science than any other subject. I get my money's worth on my YouTube Premium subscription, and cinemas are crazy expensive in Australia.

Drive-in theatres made a resurgence during the COVID lockdown. I haven't been to one of those in decades. Used to see all B-movies there. I can remember those clunky speakers that hung from your window for the sound.

Those were the days, drive in theatre opened in my home town in 1970, opening movie was Kelly's Heroes. It closed in 1984, but reopened for a short period during Covid, has since closed permanently. Every now and then someone would drive off with clunky speakers still attached to the car window, rarely ended well. Now only 16 drive in theatres across Australia {eek3}
