Things that annoy me (3 Viewers)

Watching a documentary on the JFK assassination and realizing everyone in the film footage no matter how young or old or rich or poor dressed respectfully. Often in a suit and tie. What a contrast to today. Most people that I see out and about are wildly obese, wearing sweats, and generally not giving a frig how they look. A complete loss of self respect.

Yes, many things have changed, such as basic curtsey, hold a door open and you're likely to be scowled at and all the other little manners, that made for a more cohesive society.

Sense of humour seems to have disappeared too in some people and though the rot had started way before, I think what happened during Covid, with people pretty much missing out on day to day social interaction, has changed a lot of people in many ways.

There has definitely been a loss of self-respect and the concept of shame. The JFK assassination, Vietnam, and Watergate were all events that eroded the American ideal. We are on a new level now with social media, cell phones, and video games. People are dumbing down and becoming increasingly isolated.

I often feel like a stranger in my own country. Western society seems hell bent on destroying itself and re-writing history. I don't get it......

Not too long ago, my wife and I were on a park shuttle bus in Zion Nat'l Park (simply magnificent) when two younger women got up from their seats offered them to us (we're in our 70's). I was embarrassed and tried to refuse but they insisted. It was nice to see a polite gesture, at the same time making me feel very old.

Glad to hear you had a good experience, yep, things like that make you realise you're not the 25 year you once were ! 😉

In the 1940’s and 50’s people completely over dressed. There is no need to wear a suit or fashion dress to watch a baseball game or to go grocery shopping.

Today everyone wears strips of fabrics that do not qualify as clothes. It iis not ok to wear pasties and underwear on a plane nor should you wear pajamas to your friends wedding.

There is no middle of the road, just extremes that continue to reflect our devolution.

Wow ! I've seen women at the supermarket in pyjamas but I'm sure even those sloths would dress for a wedding !
Have to admit, I'm a little behind the times when it comes to women's fashions and never having heard of pasties apart from the Cornish variety, which are obviously different having looked up what you were meaning by pasties ! 😉🤣

Thanks for the laughs!

Apologies for not posting links to clarify my views.

I disagree. People dressed to present themselves the best they could in public, as sign of respect for others. We have become so self-centered as a society that people just do whatever they want, including go out in public dressed like a slob. It's an insult to others.

Only about seventy years ago, if not being worn for labouring on a farm etc then blue jeans became a sign of rebellion by teenagers against the norm, now they are the norm and universal, but of course there is a big difference between "smart" ones and ones that make you look like you're not able to dress yourself.
And then there is clothing and those that wear it that goes to show control, submission and dominance of a society and I'm not thinking of gimp suits !

Believe it or not that common society etiquette is often frowned upon these days by the woke, entitled, lunatic left.....even holding a door open for a female can be viewed as sexist or even interpreted as having racist overtones.......things are so messed up these days.

Yeah the pyjama thing is just plain wrong and then there's those clowns who limp about with their asses hanging out of their pants, waddling about exposing their boxer shorts etc......but the best ones are those large ladies who insist on wearing those skin tight lycra sports pants, with thongs, (or commando) seemingly oblivious to how ridiculous they look or the fact none of us really want to see what they had for breakfast.....🤯

The woke remodeling of the Cracker Barrel. Wow. They must be trying to drive themselves out of business. Cracker Barrels are full of old people who love it. You can't get in on the weekends. Enter a woke CEO who says this can't go on. They strip the place of its Americana character and remodel to look like a going out of business sterile Denny's chain. If it ain't broke, don't break it.

Haven't seen the new version of Cracker Barrel yet, and don't want to. We're in the old people crowd as you put it who still go there. Our local CBs are still of the original genre.

Last night on the one local news station they said it was the 11th anniversary of the michael brown shooting. For those that may have forgot he is the black teenager that was shot and killed by police in Ferguson , Missouri after brown had robbed a store then tried to grab the officers gun when he stopped him. As you recall due to false reporting that brown had his hands up when he was shot many nights of rioting occurred. All investigation subsequent to the incident cleared the officer of any wrong doing in as much as brown just strongarmed robbery of a food store of some cigars then tried to grab the officers service pistol when he was stopped. Where I'm going with this is this news story portrayed brown as some kind of martyr for unarmed black people being needlessly murdered by white police officers. They showed the memorial at the site of the shooting commemorating browns life and then interviewed browns father, who I might point out was decked in a black suit with red trim and a wide brim hat to match. He could afford it as he got millions of dollars in settlements, he struck the ghetto lottery. I might also point out this father did not raise his son michael his grandmother did. The whole news story went on and on about this tragedy, the whole time with a picture of michael in his high school graduation cap and gown. I vowed I will never watch this particular tv stations local news again.

Steve:

Great post.

To be clear I am not saying that going half naked to anything is acceptable.

At the same time I do not feel disrespected if the guy sitting next to me at a baseball game is wearing shorts and a t-shirt instead of a suit.
