Yep, I don't miss that place at all.A bit nippy there mate.![]()
Yes, many things have changed, such as basic curtsey, hold a door open and you're likely to be scowled at and all the other little manners, that made for a more cohesive society.Watching a documentary on the JFK assassination and realizing everyone in the film footage no matter how young or old or rich or poor dressed respectfully. Often in a suit and tie. What a contrast to today. Most people that I see out and about are wildly obese, wearing sweats, and generally not giving a frig how they look. A complete loss of self respect.
There has definitely been a loss of self-respect and the concept of shame. The JFK assassination, Vietnam, and Watergate were all events that eroded the American ideal. We are on a new level now with social media, cell phones, and video games. People are dumbing down and becoming increasingly isolated.Yes, many things have changed, such as basic curtsey, hold a door open and you're likely to be scowled at and all the other little manners, that made for a more cohesive society.
Sense of humour seems to have disappeared too in some people and though the rot had started way before, I think what happened during Covid, with people pretty much missing out on day to day social interaction, has changed a lot of people in many ways.
I often feel like a stranger in my own country. Western society seems hell bent on destroying itself and re-writing history. I don't get it......Yes, many things have changed, such as basic curtsey, hold a door open and you're likely to be scowled at and all the other little manners, that made for a more cohesive society.

Not too long ago, my wife and I were on a park shuttle bus in Zion Nat'l Park (simply magnificent) when two younger women got up from their seats offered them to us (we're in our 70's). I was embarrassed and tried to refuse but they insisted. It was nice to see a polite gesture, at the same time making me feel very old.Yes, many things have changed, such as basic curtsey, hold a door open and you're likely to be scowled at and all the other little manners, that made for a more cohesive society.

Glad to hear you had a good experience, yep, things like that make you realise you're not the 25 year you once were !Not too long ago, my wife and I were on a park shuttle bus in Zion Nat'l Park (simply magnificent) when two younger women got up from their seats offered them to us (we're in our 70's). In the 1940’s and 50’s people completely over dressed. There is no need to wear a suit or fashion dress to watch a baseball game or to go grocery shopping.Watching a documentary on the JFK assassination and realizing everyone in the film footage no matter how young or old or rich or poor dressed respectfully. Steve:Wow ! I've seen women at the supermarket in pyjamas but I'm sure even those sloths would dress for a wedding !
Have to admit, I'm a little behind the times when it comes to women's fashions and never having heard of pasties apart from the Cornish variety, which are obviously different having looked up what you were meaning by pasties !![]()
I disagree. People dressed to present themselves the best they could in public, as sign of respect for others. We have become so self-centered as a society that people just do whatever they want, including go out in public dressed like a slob. It's an insult to others. In the 1940’s and 50’s people completely over dressed. There is no need to wear a suit or fashion dress to watch a baseball game or to go grocery shopping.
Only about seventy years ago, if not being worn for labouring on a farm etc then blue jeans became a sign of rebellion by teenagers against the norm, now they are the norm and universal, but of course there is a big difference between "smart" ones and ones that make you look like you're not able to dress yourself.I disagree. Believe it or not that common society etiquette is often frowned upon these days by the woke, entitled, lunatic left.....even holding a door open for a female can be viewed as sexist or even interpreted as having racist overtones.......things are so messed up these days. Not too long ago, my wife and I were on a park shuttle bus in Zion Nat'l Park (simply magnificent) when two younger women got up from their seats offered them to us (we're in our 70's). Yeah the pyjama thing is just plain wrong and then there's those clowns who limp about with their asses hanging out of their pants, waddling about exposing their boxer shorts etc......but the best ones are those large ladies who insist on wearing those skin tight lycra sports pants, with thongs, (or commando) seemingly oblivious to how ridiculous they look or the fact none of us really want to see what they had for breakfast.....Wow ! Haven't seen the new version of Cracker Barrel yet, and don't want to. We're in the old people crowd as you put it who still go there. Our local CBs are still of the original genre. The woke remodeling of the Cracker Barrel. Wow. They must be trying to drive themselves out of business. Cracker Barrels are full of old people who love it. You can't get in on the weekends. Enter a woke CEO who says this can't go on. They strip the place of its Americana character and remodel to look like a going out of business sterile Denny's chain. If it ain't broke, don't break it.

And then there is clothing and those that wear it that goes to show control, submission and dominance of a society and I'm not thinking of gimp suits !
