Things that I really like (1 Viewer)

A man of simple tastes here - but tasty festive suggestions

a. Christmas Cake with a slice of Cheese
b. A glass of cream sherry with cheese served with digestive biscuits (McVities or Hovis only have the required sweetness)
c. Chilled custard with your puddings

Alll wholly inappropriate to the 2023 resolutions to shed a few excess pounds :)

HNY all

We had brie cheese with cranberry jam, traditional shrimp cocktail, Chinese including lots of fried appetizers and plum pudding in brandy. Plus champagne. And I have digestive issues!
It was fun anyway...
Hope you all had fun too...

Groundhog Day. A nice tradition that hasn't been overhyped as with other such occasions (e.g. St. Pat's Day, Halloween). Punxsutawney is a nice little town if you have never visited. Like something from the 1940s. I have no idea how they get all those folks up to the park where they hold this event. You have to drive through a neighborhood. It must be chaos. And cold.

This is exactly the explanation that you would expect IF there were an alien invasion: :wink2:

"There are hundreds, “if not thousands,” of unknown objects soaring in the skies — but they’re likely just used car balloons or other benign crafts and not aliens visiting Earth, White House officials said Monday."

Some genius in Biden's cabinet/on his staff/maybe his secretary of splainin gave this explanation as to why we're seeing all these UFO's "Well, there are more things in the sky and people are noticing them more and more" or words to that effect.

This is a guy who gets paid to tell us useful information like that; so 5 or 10 years ago, there just weren't as many things floating around, or we just didn't notice them back then like we do now.

But don't worry, his cracker jack press secretary said "We worked in conjunction with the Canadaidians to shoot down one of those objects."

Wow, I learned a new word; "Canadaidians" thanks to her, what a bright gal.

To quote Tom Dubel "You can't make this **** up."

Raquel Welch. A lot of the news reporting on her death related to her physical appearance but she was a pretty good actress. In a ton of great movies from just about every genre. Not many can pull that off. The iconic movie star.

So true. I think the only aliens here (besides the illegals) is this administration. And they are doing a great job destroying the country and the world.

What a bummer, my first boyhood crush.

She did a singing number with Cher on the Sonny and Cher show that made me go from 6:00pm to midnight in the blink of an eye, I roared through puberty by the time that number was over.

One Million Years BC and Kansas City Bomber, two of my favorites from back in the day.

In One Million Years BC, she didn't say a word.

Didn't have to.

I wasn't sure if this one should go in the annoy or like category but since he didn't go insane, I'll go with the latter:

California man sets world record after visiting Disneyland for 2,995 days

Reitz’s fascination with Disney drove him to visit the company’s world-famous theme park in Anaheim, California, daily for eight years, three months and 13 days.

Looks like a must see....................can't wait for the rivet counters to chime in "Incorrect German tanks/wrong machine gun mounted on the turret/at that time of the war, Germans did not wear jackboots/the collar cuffs are the 516th ID, they were in Normandy, not Finland."

Yeah; no one gives a ****.

All,

I like today...March the 1st. The trees are starting bud, the humidity is creeping in and on some days the weather is perfect. I really, really like when we get out of daylight savings as I loathe the winter "fall back" time change.

I can't wait to get to March 15th. By that time we have "sprung forward" and are back to normal...time wise that is. I'll have the grill cleaned up and ready by then to start whipping up some BBQ.

By April 15th, the leaves and green pollen would have already been shed and the Texas Live Oaks will be coming to full leaf bloom.

Oh and the pool is open on that day too and I will crack a cold one to celebrate Spring.

So, that's what I really like.

PS: I like that movie preview too.

John,

I hate the winter, especially day-light-savings time. I am also looking forward to the days getting longer.

Enjoy the warmer weather!

Lou

And then the hail, wind and severe thunderstorms came.

Yes they did!

We got a few hail stones at 3 AM...then that was it.

Back to trimming falling limbs...from the ice storm back in February.

Lou, Daylight savings is for the birds! That is one thing I CANNOT STAND! Yes, it is getting warmer and I am happy as a lark, but I just know one more blast of cold air will come. Hopefully not. I will say the East Coast in Spring is beautiful.

Good to see Jamie Lee Curtis win an Oscar. I didn't see that particular movie (or even heard of it) but she is a horror genre star. She also seems like a remarkably nice and grounded person by Hollywood standards. Particularly given that both her parents were mega stars.

I was so happy to see Michelle Yeoh pick up an Oscar for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Well done Michelle!

Cheers,
Grey

Grey,

I watched it last night and WOW that was definitely something different than from all the "So and So Movie part 4" that seems to pervading the movie scene. I did see it at the theaters with the wife and daughter number 2, but I had left an afternoon party and uh...well I got a good nap at the theater. My wife was pissed at me and brung up that episode last night:

ME: I want to watch that movie you like "Everything all at Once"

WIFE: I already saw it...and LOVED it.

ME: Where is it playing?

WIFE: Amazon...but I think you have to pay for it.

ME: Okay, well order it.

WIFE: Its $20 bucks to rent and we already seen it...well I HAVE ALREADY SEEN IT...you would have SEEN IT TOO if you weren't passed out in the movie theater...

ME: C'mon man...that was a isolated incident...I

WIFE: So, NOW we have to PAY AGAIN to see it...lets see...it was $40 bucks for all three of us to see at the theaters...popcorn, soda and YOUR BEER was another $30 bucks...that's 70...and now we have to pay $20...SO YOU CAN see it AGAIN...that make this movie...oh AND GAS to get to the theater...this movie is costing us...like $150 bucks to watch!

ME: $150 bucks?

WIFE: It was probably more...but I'm not counting.

ME: Never mind...put on one of your crime shows...y'know how the wife poisons the husband over time and he mysteriously dies...

WIFE: NO, NO, NO...we are watching it because you been saying how you wanted to watch it.

ME: Forget about...

WIFE: Its already ordered...go to Amazon...uh-huh...then click on "my favorites" don't do it to fast because it hurts my eyes...uh-huh...there it is...now press play.

Yup...literally...everything all at once.
