Trophy - zulu war sets (1 Viewer)

Martyn,
Also, I noticed the NMP in brown helmet in the last set-up upon Chelmsford's arrival at the Drift. Is he special? Also the FLH trooper in the background- I have him as a early, early Little Legion piece. Where is he from? Sorry if I'm impeding progress by gleaning your pictures for info, I like to strip the carcass clean, so to speak!
Mike

Martyn,
Your set-up is exhaustive, and your execution flawless. Everybody is in their spots, and I am both envious and enjoyment at the same time! This is truly an inspiration for remembrance and collecting, history and hobby. I can't grovel enough, Your Most Humble and Obediant Servant.
Mike

Martyn
You and Joe are really masters of the Trophy dio.
Here is a link to one of the sets you mentioned

Hi Joe

Hand on heart I think the mealie bag wall, biscuit boxes and building are the only non Trophy items in the display.

Great fun putting it together, even more fun putting it back into the correct boxes:eek:

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your comments.

If I am correct, Trophy of Wales did not produce a dedicated set consisting solely of the Rorke's Drift medal winners ie VC x 11 and/or DCM x 4.

The Trophy figures came in at least two sets ie SRD and ZS52 along with other character figures.

I need to check the Frontline Figures website again, but if I recall correctly, there is a full set of VC x 11 sold in a wood ammo crate. This set also has Col-Sgt Bourne, but the other DCMs ie Roy, Cantwell and Attwood are not in.

As the Frontline set is in matte paint finish (I am a "glossman"), I never gave it a second thought.

Best, Raymond.

Hi Raymond

Trophy did produce a set featuring all the Rorke’s Drift medal winners, VC and DCM, it was called “The Defence of Rorke’s Drift 22nd January 1879” and came on the market in 1990

Here are a couple of pictures of my box

Hello Martyn,

Thanks very much for pointing out my mistake which was born out of sheer ignorance.

I stand duly corrected.

This is the ideal set for Trophy collectors interested in the all the medal winners of the Rorke’s Drift engagement.

It also appears to be a good example of how Len Taylor did modify his sets in the 1990's.

I do need to get my hands on some of the editions of the Trophy of Wales catalogues.

Just one question, Martyn: Does the Set have a number?

Thanks again, Raymond:eek:.

Raymond,
Moi ausi! I need some reference also, but Martyn & Joe have been helpful beyond word in this regard. I know the Frontline ammo crate you are talking about but also passed, since I personally don't care for the style either. This set Martyn has is worth beau-coup dollars, and priceless to us that don't have.
I really appreciate how Martyn has ID'd the personalities, as I have a lot of them but as individual finds not as set purchases, and it helps know who they are. Go Glossy(and Britains mealie bags)

No set number on the box I'm afraid but you would not mistake the set for another if one came on the market;)

Mike,

I could not agree more.

Both Joe and Martyn have had good headstarts in collecting their Trophy Zulu War sets.

Without any decent Trophy catalogs in hand, I rely heavily on the Lt's and Martyn's threads for info on sets and figures.

Martyn has a real gem of a set.

If it ever appears on eBay, I shall be one in the race to the finish.

Best, Raymond:).

Hello Martyn,

Thanks very much for the reply regarding the Set Number.

This is a unique set.

If it ever appears on eBay, I shall go for it.

I do prefer the versions of Bromhead, Schiess and Byrne in your set.

Best, Raymond.

Hi Raymond

I've just found this on Trophy of Texas web site, not available I must add,

Set number SRD The Store House at the Drift $795.00

I think this was the reissued set with about 16 figures, the one I have has 25 including Pip

Cheers

Martyn,

Thanks for the update:).

I have seen Set SRD listed on the Trophy of Texas website for sometime now. It has been not in stock for as long as I can remember.

If I am not wrong, this refers to the 16 figure set, the images of which I have posted.

Set HAD "Abandon the Hospital" is listed just above it and is also not available.

Mike Laeding used to have quite a few Zulu sets in stock about 2 to 3 years back. These rapidly sold out in about 2006/2007.

He had some great images, but only for the sets in stock.

When I last checked the website, there was Set ZS52 in stock;).

Cheers, Raymond:).
