What are the Forum members Watching? (2 Viewers)

I watched Avatar: The Way of Water last night again, as it's now streaming on Disney in Australia. Terrific CGI visuals as usual but it seemed that the film couldn't decide if it was intended for Adults or Children, attempted to appeal to both audiences I guess. I would be interested in other opinions, some people seem to hate the franchise.

Pat, as a youngster I mainly liked to watch Jenna and then Soolin ^&grin I'm sure the producers had a good idea what some of the demographic were interested in, even Servalan was braless in a few episodes, and Dayna almost always forgot to put her bra on ^&grin I recall Dayna chasing Servalan across some sand dunes in one episode, a wonder they didn't knock themselves out {eek3} Couldn't do that today, way too politically incorrect, back then it was 'Liberating', see what I did there ha ha

Sorry to respond late
Jenna and Soolin got my attention as well. I was young so that kept me watching when the plots wavered. And Servalan is positively pointy in some of the colder episodes. You know the director said, "no bra."
Their idea of "Liberating" included destroying whole planets (not their fault^&confuse) on a weekly basis. 1st class medical facilities just for Gan and I forget what else but I remember they caused too much carnage!

Have you seen Firefly or Serenity? As a fan of this genre, I am interested in your opinion.

I really enjoyed Firefly and Serenity, similar mix of varied characters same as Blakes 7, and of course the earlier Starwars movies. Personally I think the Western frontier theme was overplayed, but you got used to it after several episodes.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009)

Anyone seen this movie, I watched it on Stan recently. I'm not a big fan of Nicolas Cage, but when he's good, he's very good, well worth watching if you're into Neo Film Noir.

Total agreement here. Why did they have Colt revolvers in space?^&confuse
But it was fun.
Just watched The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009). Good modern Noir. Can't beat the real oldies though IMHO.

Yep, I laughed when they brought out the old Colts etc, thought this show will be rubbish. I wasn't going to bother watching anymore episodes but was overruled by my late wife, I suspect she fancied Mal ^&grin

Of course it proved to be an excellent show, and certainly similar to Blake's 7 in many ways, especially the interaction between the different characters. And of course, same as Blake's 7, there was plenty of eye candy for guys, first time I had the hots for a mechanic, what a cutie ^&grin

Glad you liked The Bad Lieutenant, and agree the original early Noir films are hard to beat. Have you seen Cat People, released in 1942, terrific photography etc.

As for Sc Fi have you seen the recent Halo series available via Paramount?

At least she likes wholesome eye-candy like Mal. And I agree again, I couldn't like my gal-next-door eye-candy mechanic more! Sci-fi nerds (some even more sheltered than I am) must all want to date her. The "companion" is so feminine and the soldier so masculine, Ms. Mechanic is Ms. Firefly for me.
As for acting, only the Doc and his sis were odd; but then that was the point I think.
As for Halo I never played the games or any first-person-shooters (I waste too much of my time on strategy games instead). I do like Military Historical and Sci-Fi Fiction so I will seriously consider watching. I need the Paramount app but that may be worth it anyway. I guess I'm behind the times and no doubts. I wish I understood people of my age group more!
Cat People is a great film. It's "of-it's-time" and timeless.
Please keep posting your likes, our tastes are similar even if I'm the one becoming an old man (a generation younger).

I guess she did like the wholesome types, Mal (Nathan Fillion) and Jack O'neil (Richard Dean Anderson) from MacGyver/Stargate were her favs. I forgot about the 'companion', she was Beautiful, that didn't stop Mal treating her badly on occassions, obviously had some issues with her 'occupation'.

Doc and his Sis were definetly odd, but as you said, that's why they were there. I watched a documentary on Firefly which mentioned she did her own fight stunts, apparently she had done ballet etc for years and could kick high and fast {eek3} Usually when you see young females beating up large men on films it stretches the credulity, but I think one of her boots hard and fast against the head or jaw would knock most guys down.

Halo is worth chasing up, the series veared a lot from the Halo 'cannon', which upset some hardcore Halo fans, but I didn't mind the changes, maybe I'm getting brainwashed by the 'message' {eek3} ^&grin I really liked the Halo game, possibly more than both sons. I'm a full on First Person Shooter type of player whereas both sons prefer adventure based where they have to find things and solve some mystery. At least once a year we do an Escape Room adventure in Brisbane, Queensland. Not sure if many TF members have heard of such a thing but have found the WW2 themed rooms a lot of fun. We recently saved the UK from assasination attempts on their WW2 PM and V2 missile attacks ha ha. But have to say, they do require some serious 'thinking' to succeed, they're only for Nerdy types I'd say.

MacGyver and Stargate were very fun. Your wife was exceptional in that she enjoyed any Sci-Fi. I'm sure she was a good life-long partner.
Adventure games are great for them mind. I played King's Quest when I was a tot. Good for your son.
And yes, an agile woman can kick butt. It should be depicted so.
Best Wishes

Watched Mission Impossible today and great action sequences (involving a submarine, Italian car chase and a train). Tom Cruise knows how to make an entertaining movie.

I still dig out the Stargate dvds now and then, and I agree that most females are not into Sci-Fi, she was also into Horror, me not so much as that genre is usually full of dumb people doing stupid things at night {eek3} ^&grin

However I do like a good mix of Horror and Dark Humour such as Cocaine Bear. My favourite in that genre is 'Tucker and Dale Vs Evil', worth chasing up as it's funny as, also stars 'Wash' from 'Firefly'.

Brett, that movie is on my watch list. I suspect I'm one of the few that don't mind Tom Cruise, at least I can overlook his weird antics and recognize him as a great actor, you ask him, he'll tell you how good he is.

Would l Lie to you - Australian version

I really enjoy the British version, however it's amazing how much humor is based on cultural or geographic specifics. I'm not an immigrant from the UK and have never been there on holidays, consequently I can't always appreciate the comedic nuances of the show.

Recently started watching the Aussie version, I find it easier to relate to the life experiences of the contestants. However, I don't find it as funny as the British version, contestants like Bob Mortimer are hard to replicate ^&grin

Warrior, not really a fan of martial arts movies ets BUT this is a great show.

Watched Bull tonight, sure is a full on revenge movie. Another movie with similar theme is Only God Forgives, it had mixed reviews, but it was a mixed up movie, not for Barbie fans.

Not a Barbie fan so I should enjoy that one Matt :salute::

Cheers

Martyn:)

You say that now Martyn, but yeah, it's different that's for sure, and the ending...W T F {eek3}

Hard to believe Ryan Gosling starred in that movie, and Barbie.

'In The Line of Duty: The FBI Murders'

This movie, based on actual events, was released in 1986, IMO the movie includes some of the most realistic gunfights on film. Unlike current movies where gun fights only seem to occur at night these were in the hard light of day, somehow giving them a sureleastic feeling.
