What Toy Soldier items Have You Acquired in The Last 2 Weeks ? (1 Viewer)

Hi John,
Would say they could double up as Afeghan fighters on the Northwestern Frontier Wars?

Victor,

John Jenkins has made two versions of these figures, I chose to get the Arab Mercenaries because they have a more ragged and individual paint finish.

The others are listed as Maratha Infantry and wear a red turban and white clothing, so more uniformly dressed.

See the difference ...

John
I bought the Arab mercenaries to-be NW Frontier Afghan types

On Christmas Eve I got myself a present, GA16, the Trophy WWI Turkish Supply Camel of the Escort, leaving me only two Turkish, one Russian and one Western Front set to complete Trophy's WWI offerings!

X-Mas opening (other than 4 figures, the only one of this year)
5 JJD Knights and 4 Spearmen for El Cid vs just 2 Almoravids.
5 FL Crusaders with Crossbowmen.
11 (all) the FL Ottomans.
FL Mameluke Tent.
And, sadly 8 boring Malta defenders. So boring we cancelled #9. Been there and they don't look quite right. Not much fun, anyway. I think it may have been a mistake to use Jamestown & War of Roses sculpts to bring the price down. In retrospect, I would rather have paid more for a better, more unique look
Cid was the Best bang for the buck. Ottomans are awesome.
If we ever take terrible pics we will post them to our album and notify you guys.

Revision: we opened 2 Vikings, 1 Norman and 3 Saxons (including 2 archers) plus 4 Norman crossbowmen since last X-Mas.
So we opened 10 figs earlier this year.
The FL were Verdun Knight plus 4 crossbowmen including Ibelin & 3 regulars.
We opened 11 FL Ottomans, but we did not get the full range (no Dervish).
We used many old figures and scenery to complete the dioramas, which are still not complete due to Holiday obligations and Paddy's fever which reached 104.2.
We opened Cid and 4 of his best Knights plus Herbert Lom (Ibn whatever) and his African Flagbearer. Plus 4 spearmen. I liked the fact that we could use very old figures and scenery to make it more fun.
JJD's Knights of Malta is a beautiful series, we just have too many similar soldiers already. Since Christmas was a PIA here, I didn't appreciate them enough.

But rather than consign them to the Island of Misfit Toys (like Santa in Rudolf, who was not very kind) we will try to find a place for them.

So many relatives and friends passed away and so many more are very sick this year (heck, I'm sick as heck at 47) that we had a rough Holiday but I'm sorry for my negativity (it only leads to more negative thoughts, IMHO).

Happy New Year to the World, and may it be better than before.
Paddy

We need a background for Malta and El Cid. Otherwise our photos will be, well, just shots of what we bought this year.
A Crusade background would be helpful as well. Or maybe AI can just do it for us soon...
We'll post our X-Mas openings soon. Unlike most of our collection, it is out and ready to be seen...
Too bad we can't do them justice because they are all beautiful,

The Great Siege of Malta (one more Maltese Knight is coming).
More pics of both El Cid & Malta will be posted to our album in upcoming weeks. When we are done we will notify you guys.
We may also picture our new few Crusaders later.
Sorry to hog this thread for a while. Please enjoy!

Theses 7 figures arrived today from an interstate seller.
This also meant he did a combined post and only internal mail, so all in all a bargain!!

Britains - Yeomen of the Guard and Horse Guard

I will repair the Staddens and Horse Guard but the 2 Yeomen are fine so they will accompany my Gold Coach in a procession.

I've had a 'bit of fun' this week restoring the Stadden figures back to their former glory.

before.jpg

from this .....

after.jpg
to this ....

I tried to only repaint the areas that were back to bare metal and so retain the essence of the fine painting done by Chas Stadden, especially the silver lace on the Hussar's coat.

Under the base there is a signature of Chas as authentication and these figures will now join the rest of The Kaiser's Army on my shelves.

Nice work on both the El Cid and Great Siege of Malta Pat & Paddy, adding the terrain pieces walls and towers etc really raise it and as you say appropriate backdrops always help, even just blue skies.

Just an idea, have you thought about adding more than just the basic paint done by Britain's to the plastic Deetail Turks / Saracens, if you've a steady hand and appropriate painting guide pictures, you can find on the internet ?

We don't have the skill. But we would be interested to see the results of people who do. We may even get a few, since they were some of the first TS I was given by Dad.
Best Wishes Friend & God Save Us All

As always, we like your ideas. From books to dioramas to History.
We need more ground terrain and maybe just a sky backdrop - good call.
We think we will leave the Turks (Saracens/Almoravids) in evil black.
It took 800 years from the Spanish and Portuguese to throw them out of Iberia. Malta is 73 years later...
And it may never end.
Kings and Generals has done a great job of the first 4 Crusades on YouTube for free. Maybe check it out. Only about 10 hrs. total...
Best Wishes
Long live our alliance.

Albeit of not being gloss, a fantastic way to illustrate the difference between restoration and repaint. This is Great Tennis very well presented.
Sure the Kaiser would have loved these - I do anyway. Gigantic fun factor.

Here is a collection of Verlinden 1/35 Vietnam Scenes I put together coutesy of Bruce Horton Horton Designs Painting. Bruce airbrushes a lot and mimics box arts but creates bases. Anyhow, I am very happy with the results. The only thing I contributed was the kits, the cash and the display case! Let's call it "All Along The Watchtower".

Forgot to say, my favorite is the German Shepherd vignette, although the lass is a close second. Also, the "flower power" is interesting too. Not sure if you can see the one guy toking it up!

Heco Style Sopwith 1½ Strutter

The latest addition to my collection is a scratch built HECO style SopwithStrutter ithe RFCs first fighter with a synchronised machine gun, being given the name Strutter because of the long and short cabane struts that supported the top wingand it fits in perfectly with my recent B.E.12.

DSCF0706.jpg DSCF0707.jpg

The markings are based on those provided by the Ukrainian model company Toko from 1998 who are now called Roden and have a good reputation for accuracy which are for a Royal Navy machine captured by the Germans in 1917. Sadly there are no other references or photos of machine 1913, although a machine numbered A1913 from No 70 Squadron RFC part of batch A1902-A1931 of 30 SopwithStrutters transferred from the R.N.A.S.to the RFC. was forced down behind the German lines on 17 September 1916 with Lieut Oswald Nixon being killed & Lieut R Wood being taken prisoner. Apparently originally RFC planes in France had no letter in front of the number so possibly the 'A' had not been added before it was forced down. A further fly in the ointment is a photo of what is supposed to be part of the of A1913.

Maybe at some point I may have to repaint the model as the all PC 10 brown A1914.
