Successfully bid on a vintage boxed set of W. Britains Set No.1850 Netherlands Infantry, in near mint condition (Armies of the World box in generally excellent condition). Not cheap, but fairly rare in this condition (James Opie Rarity Index of 92 if boxed) and only manufactured 1939-1941, as a non-cataloged set. Will be the rarest set of Britains in my collection. Have been very careful recently as to any new acquisitions. The availabilty/quality/cost triangle issue, particularly on a fixed retirement income, being a fundamental factor. Consider myself extremely fortunate.

You won't find many sets above 90 in Opie's rarity index. To give some perspective, all the rare boxed sets in the Famous Regiments series(1556-1602)are rated in the mid-80s, while the very rare set 1868-Air Raid Warden's Post is rated 90, as is set 2184, Bahamas Police, and also set 1525-U.S. Air Force Biplane w/pilot & hanger. How often do you see the last three sets up for sale?

Sets rated above 92? Not many, i.e. the RAF Color Party is given a 95 and set 1520-Short Flying boat is rated 96.

I was able to pick up the JJD MacLaren Sopwith Camel and the JJD Lothar von Richthofen. Also got a great deal off the forum for a set I have missed on several occasions, Britains Premier #8939, the French Machine Gun section with Hotchkiss Mg. Very pleased with them all. -- Al

I was planning to get one too. It could be used for a baracade for my Sudan Camel Corps, or as a wagon for my French/Spanish farm. I am glad it is a good quality product, and thanks for the review! My latest additions: Until a polystone version possibly comes out I picked up an Ultimate Soldier 1/32 Stuka for the time being. Also a second ME-262 by the same company for an additional
measly $20.00 I couldn't go wrong.
For K&C a loose D-Day airborne soldier from one of the earlier sets in mint condition courtesy of E-Bay.
In route are some Collectors Showcase "Goose Stepping" Riflemen and standard bearer to add to my King&Country Berlin 38' diorama. More to follow !!! :wink2:
