World Cup in Brazil (1 Viewer)

Boa sorte hoje Carlos.

I see Spain is ahead 3 nil. No Casillas or Xavi today. Too little, too late. Shades of 98. Perhaps things would have been different had they played Australia first. Well, that's life.

Jazz,

I hope we don't have some sort of "gentleman's agreement" on the pitch! And just because you mentioned that I am going to watch the game with big time scrutiny. After the USA game the players had the "been de-pants in gym" look on their faces...but I still love em.

Pretty Boy Portugal (Ronaldo) really did not have much of a game yesterday...exept one, spot on, perfectly placed chip pass that got the goal that equalized the game...and thats why he is Ronaldo. So, mucho respect for Ronaldo and his bum knee.

Bottomline: The FIFA has been great and watching these dudes battle it out makes Lebron "Aye Papi Leg Cramps" Queen James look like a school yard sissy. Long live the pitch and those who play on it!

John,

My guess is that they will play hard for 30 or so minutes and if it's nil nil or tied they're not going to really push themselves, especially Germany because they're going to, in all likelihood, win the group no matter what. Moreover, if Portugal is winning by 1-0, regardless of the US Germany score, they're not going to push themselves because of the poor Portuguese goal differential. If Ghana is winning however, I'd think all bets are off as far as the US is concerned.

Why...................^&confuse^&confuse

Because they're minnows and would have been better for Spain to start off with an easier opponent, no offense.

Offense taken mate,i think you will find we/Australia are world champs at more things than the US.
I don't think the world shakes at the thought of playing the US in soccer........................^&grin

There's a flipside to this if Spain had played the Aussies first. We would have had a full strength team with our best player Cahill leading the charge (he was out in the game last night) and we may have caused an upset as the Spanish may have been complacent and as we know, they were off there game when they played the Netherlands in the first game. It's another case of "what ifs" but that's life.

Just got home from the game. Brazil won 4x1, but frankly from my perspective in the stadium, we didn`t play well. Chile next Saturday will be a very tough one, and we have to display better quality, specially in midfield. Bellow are some pictures I took this afternoon/evening of me and my wife, kids, family and friends.

We weren't talking about the US but Spain, which is the team I principally root for (aside from the US and the Latin countries). I'm sure Australia is good in many things but this time, like Spain they are also rans.

As far as the US goes, we are coming on in football and a lot of work is starting to beat fruit.

Congratulations on getting through Carlos. I'm sure Brasil Chile will be a great game to watch. Glad to see Mexico made it through.

Italy Uruguay should be a fascinating game tomorrow. Considering that Italy didn't make it through the group stage in 2010, I can't see that happening again. Putting three former Cup champions in the same group doesn't make any sense and it's a shame two of them will be going home.

Wayne,

You bring up a good point that has bothered me for years. The whole "World Champions" affliction the US has on any homeland championship victory. When our football teams win the Super Bowl the winning team declares themselves the "World Champions"...but they did not play the world. Baseball and Basketball victorious teams also crown themselves as "World Champions", but they are not and once again did not play any team outside of the US.

Soccer is one of those games that plays in a WORLD Cup tournament and when the winning team prevails they are truly the World Champions. So, if we figure out what title the USA as a whole has in WORLD championships it is going to be pretty limited to the Olympics. Which by the way is another WORLD stage.

But you would be surprised Wayne at the growing popularity of Soccer in the US. You see our US Womens team is the best in the WORLD (next to Japan) and by the way I saw the US Women whip the shiola out of the Australian women's team here in San Antonio. They Aussie ladies were hotties though and our fans gave them a standing "O" after the game as guests in the US. So, all of a sudden the "girls" are top dogs and now the mens National Team is playing catch up...and that's what the US gets for putting all their emphasis in youth sports to male dominated American Sports. So, our current "World Champs" title via Womens Soccer is kinda of emasculating to the big bad USA.

Anywho, just a thought,

Mate honestly does women's sport count......................{eek3}:wink2:^&grin (Joke)
Yeah you bring up some good points about Superbowl etc Ive often wondered about the world champ thing when winning a domestic comp.

After that latest incident from Suarez (who I really don't like), I think it will be an injustice if Italy doesn't go through as Suarez should have been shown the red.

It was a example of an athlete with no class. What really frosted me was the way Suarez feel to the ground and pulled at his teeth as if he had been hurt in an innocent collision. More like he was pulling Italian flesh out of his chompers.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I hope he is suspended for the rest of the Cup, as long as Uruguay are in it, which won't be long without him. He was also involved in a racist incident in the English League, for which he was suspended. When he returned he refused to shake the hand of the player he insulted.

Come on guys, he is always hungry (3 times now I guess^&grin), I thinks it's FIFA's fault, they should provide a steak break for him to appease his hunger...^&grin. Should taste better than Chielini's shoulder.^&grin

The game is over. The ref didn't call the head but or the bite. FIFA won't do anything

You may be right but I've seen the British football officials open up
an investigation after the fact and subsequently discipline a player.

I don't think FIFA can ignore this.

Neither could I.

But that is exactly what happened, what a nut punch.

We're not even through to the round of 16 and 2 of the top 4 favorites are now out, Italy and Spain.

I'm down to Germany, France and the US; if any of them get knocked out, I'm done...........................

It's worse than that. Of the 12 top ranked teams, 5 are out Spain(1), Portugal (4), Italy (9) , England (10) and Greece (12) and Switzerland (6) is on the bubble. It's a bloodbath.

Looks like the best teams so far are Germany, Brazil and watch out for the Netherlands
