World Cup in Brazil (1 Viewer)

Forget Brasil Colombia. What could be more sublime than France Germany: The War of 1870, WW I, WW II, or the Tragedy of Seville in 1982 when Schumacher (the German Goalie) knocked Patrick Battiston into unconsciousness. See http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-foul-in-Frances-1982-Tragedy-of-Seville.html

This is a match of revenge for France!
France should be careful about Revanche. That 1914 war was also called a war of revenge by the French. The French 'victory' in that war marked the French psyche forever. France v Germany never seems to end well. :wink2: -- Al

Germany scores early, France has a push towards the end, had a shot right at the end but the German goalie saved it, on to the semi finals for the Germans, 4th strait trip.

That it impressive no matter how you slice it.

Germany/Brazil (or is it Brasil) would be epic...............

A tight match. The Germans steadied themselves in defense and never seemed in huge trouble but they will need to play better to get to the Final. Perhaps France's turn will come in two years at the Euros.

I think Germany have looked the best team so far. They will IMO win this tournament. Brazil don't strike me as a team that could win and they will be lucky to win today

Hulk had a good game. Fred still not doing much. And a foolish yellow card by Thiago Silva keeps him out of the next game - a big hole to fill. And is Neymar injured?

Yes, for shame on Silva and a terrible foul on Neymar. The games are getting uglier as the tournament gets tighter. The drama will thicken as we head into the semis gents.

PS: If you have a chance to watch the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary on "The Two Escobars" it will make you look at Columbian soccer in a whole different light. A very, very sad documentary.

Can Brazil beat Germany without Silva and Neymar? I really doubt it. They are probably the two most important players on the team.

Terry

That was an unimpressive performance by Brasil, helped out by Colombian defensive sloppiness in the first half. It was also poorly officiated; it seems Spaniards in Brasil don't do well. There were many cynical challenges that were unpunished and Neymar and James were constantly assaulted.

If Brasil plays like these against a solid team like Germany, even if they have Neymar, well there goes that unbeaten streak. Germany may be boring but they are solid.

I just saw that Neymar is done with a broken vertebrae. That's a tough break for Brasil. Others will need to step up. Moreover, I'm sure Barcelona is none too happy.

Wow, that's awful, didn't look that serious, but that is not good.

One thing I've learned the past couple of weeks is there is a ton of contact in soccer, these guys bang into each other pretty good, not to mention they have to be in top shape with all that running around.

Soccer players are world class athletes, that is for sure................going to be interesting now.

Germany/Brazil will be great, Germany/Argentina would be a nice final, Brazil/Argentina would be epic...........

Yeah, and he is young in his career too. I looked at the replay a few times and it is hard to tell if the foul is malicious. Certainly the push but I don't see him winding up for the knee in the back. This gets back into my argument for two refs on the field. One man cannot field 22 guys!!! Even with the line judges who's sole responsibility is the ball line judgement is not enough. There has to be more than one one man.

Even Warrior would back me on this one when it comes to Hockey as there is more than one ref in Hockey and less players and a smaller venue. Some concept ball/puck with all working to make a GOAL. There has got to be more refs PERIOD.

There were some 50 fouls in the match and I believe only two cards produced. I won't say the ref lost control of the match but had a few more cards been shown, the player might not have attempted that challenge on Neymar.

I am a great believer in sporting hoodoos
No European team has ever won in South America
Will be interesting to see if this hoodoo will be broken.

If the Netherlands and Belgium win today then 3 of the 4 final four teams will be European.

I am looking forward to today's matches.

I'm looking forward to today's matches also ,. Should be more attacking play than yesterday's games

Kev

I am too. I think Belgium could upset the Argentines, who haven't been all that impressive, and I'm hoping for the Ticos to best Holland.
