Cataloging Trophy Boxers (1 Viewer)

John,

Welcome to the Forum! We'd love to see your Boxer sets.

Tommy,

The last picture I saw on Mike's site (before he removed them) of BS30 included the wounded sailor. Dropping the wounded sailor must've been one of Len's last changes.

Gents,

I talked to Jim Hillestad this morning and he has two sets of Dragon Crest Turcos left, one in all blue uniform and one in blue jackets and white pantaloons.

John: Welcome and look forward to seeing your collection.

Martyn: Thanks for the kind words. Good luck with your new project. Look forward to seeing the final product.

Tommy: Thanks for the kind words. As you know, Trophy made several special sets for Mike. I also spoke with Jim Hillestad and apparently, he had several made for him as well. So, there seems to be multiple variations available.

Dave: Thanks again for compiling this list. We also seem to think along similar lines. I contacted Jim as well and sent him a copy of your list to see what he could find. He is looking through his catalogues. He did mention he found a designation for the Peking Gate and Walls with Ladders as FAR-2 Assault on the Peking Gate. Jim also told me about the Turcos and we took the last sets. I was unaware that Dragon Crest did Boxer sets. I always associated Dragon Crest with the Sudan & Egypt. Learn something new every day.:)

All the best,
Lawrence

Dave: More info for your list! BS13 was discontinued in 1987. BS14 is a set of Kansu braves standing firing. BS23 is a set of French Zouaves(blue and red uniforms) under Dragon Crest label. BS28 should be spelled Jingalls. New Figures as of June 1987, were B7C, Japanese Infantry Officer standing loading pistol; B9/A Austro-Hungarian Naval Officer advancing with drawn pistol; B10A German East Asia Brigade Officer standing with flag and drawn pistol; and B11A French Marine Infantry Officer charging with flag and drawn pistol. In 1991,single figures B17 Russian Sailor standing firing(unwounded); B18 French Chasseur D' Afrique kneeling firing; B19 "Thornhills Rough" standing firing a double barrelled shot-gun; and Legation Lady. Also, single Boxer figures could be purchased. This is all I can come up with.

Tommy,
This sounds like figures in the set TD9 - Defense of the Legation or Peking Barricade.

Hi Lawrence

I think this is what he was referring to

Quick suggestion:

The Boxer Group, can you please complete your collections so that I can get back to finding and adding to mine........:):)

Dag, all this attention has caused a fury on the past 6 months auctions as well as the basements of toy soldier dealers.

Larry, once you have 2 of each, you are barred from buying anymore, if not, I will have to take it upon myself to raid your storage when I am in NYC in March!!:):) Tommy, you may not buy another thing, your collection is stacked!

Tom,
Could have sworn I heard your lovely wife say the same thing about someone:p

Ya, wonder who that is. I am still trying to figure out the logistics on the Kingcast collection, how to recon it into the house and where to store it. I can just here the gasp when the steam tractor and Balloons start flying. I better take cover.

Bombs away.

Just got these courtesy of Jim Hillestadt.

Did anyone notice there appears to be three different designations for the series? There is the code B, BR and BS. On the first page alone, BS-21 looks to be made up of the old B series of 1st Sihk Infantry. Then BS-14 was made up of six figures of BR-1. It looks like the BR-1 through BR-10 were sold originally as single figures and then Trophy repackaged the figures in boxes of 6 figures. I think we may need to add a new list of BR figures. What do you guys think?

Hi Lawrence

Here goes with my 2 cents

As you quite rightly state B15, B16A and B16 are all single figures, could B stand for Boxer and BS stand for Boxer set? I think they should all remain in the main listing, the price code J = £7.00 at 1992 prices

I think the BR series warrants a separate list, just out of interest the price codes K=£7.25 and N=£9 at 1992 prices. The two figure set # BR9 sold for £16

Cheers

Martyn:)

Lawrence,

I was most concerned about the sets, because all the individual soldiers showed up in one or more of them. However, Martyn makes a good point about the BRs.

Dave

Dave: I mentioned those singles had a BR designation earlier and you said it would never end if we listed those I believe. I think Martyn is correct in his analysis.

BR Sets: Single Figure Sets Unless Otherwise Noted

1. Kansu Brave - Standing Firing in Red and Yellow Uniform
2. Manchu Ten Nai (Tiger Man) - Advancing with Drawn Sword and Shield
3. Boxer - Advancing with Halberd
4. Boxer - Advancing with Double Handed Sword
5. Boxer - Advancing with Banner
6. Boxer - Advancing with Short Halberd and Wicker Shield and Wearing Coolie Hat
7. Boxer Official - Advancing with Single Handed Sword Wearing a Mandarin Hat
8. Boxer - Kneeling Firing
9. Boxer - Two Figure Set: 1. Standing Firing Jingall 2. Standing Holding Jingall Prop and Ramrod
10. Infantryman - Chinese Imperial Army Kneeling Firing in Blue Unifrom

Martyn,

Thanks for your input. I am guessing that since Trophy originally sold single figures only of the Boxer series, the BR designation was used for the Chinese figures and the B designation was for the European/Indian/Japanese figures. Another question for Tommy to ask Len.

Dave,

Understand your point and in agreement as those are the sets most collectors will be familiar with and have in their collection. Your listing of a catalogue has helped me a great deal as I now have a far better understanding of what I have and of Trophy's history. For those interested in an additional historical reference of Trophy's Boxers, I have put together a list of the BS sets to augment your catalogue. Thanks again for your input and the time you have taken to create the catalogue.
All the best, Lawrence

Tommy,
Have a theory that can be confirmed or shot down by Len. Would you be so kind as to please ask Len if the designation B was for the European/Indian/Japanese figures and the BR designation was for the Chinese figures when he first sold Boxer figures as singles. Thanks.
Had a fun time speaking with Mike yesterday about your collection.
All the best, Lawrence

Lawrence,

I edited your list to save space, and I added zeros to match the formatting. (It's not like Len was consistent with zeros either, so I didn't think it matters.) Now I need to go back through the earlier posts and compile all the "B" series.

We need a Trophy book .
Len himself, Jim Hillstead and Mike Laeding are the first ports of call.
Between us I am pretty sure we can get pictures of almost all the sets ever made for all the ranges.

I second that, following this odyssey on the boxers sets has helped pass the day along though

It might also be worth having a word with Ken Jackson.
