The report I heard said that the player who scored was injured by his own teammates piling on him in celebration. What a treat.:rolleyes2: -- AlThe player who scored the winning TD for MSU apparently fractured his hip when he was tackled and a fan in the stands had a heart attack. Doesn't get much crazier than that ending.
Notre Dame lucky as ever, but USC can't help themselves on or off the field, that is a broken University at this point and might as well hang it up for a bit. Trainwreck is synonymous with the USC Football program.

A coaching mistake to be sure, but the punter should have had the sense to fall on the ball. Harbaugh should never have tried the punt. A Qb rollout would have eaten up the 10 seconds while State players chased him down, or a simple Qb sneak, leaving State with enough time for one Hail Mary. All 20/20 hindsight on an incredible series of errors. Joe Pisarcik must be proud. :rolleyes2: -- AlESPN did an interesting analysis of Jim Hardblows coaching mistakes on that last punt. MSU had all their guys rushing the punt with no returner but Michigan still had flankers out for some unknown reason reducing the number of blockers. That allowed MSU players to run unblocked toward the punter and likely distracted him as he anticipated the punt getting blocked. A colossal coaching mistake on special teams.
LOL. I'll take Reggie Bush and the bogus sanctions over convict state with Jimbo "I see nothing" Pyle coaching and the cops covering up for all manner of serious crimes. There is no college football program more corrupt than FSU. The people there should be ashamed to be associated with that program. Just read the NY Times article on how football players there shoot people on the streets with pellet guns, assault women, get in fights etc. and they rarely if ever get punished. A disgrace.

Falling on the ball was a very real option. The ball was snapped from the State 47. Fall on it at the 48 and that leaves a FG attempt from the 41, an attempt of some 69 yards. No one tries a FG from that range. The Hail Mary would have been the only option. It was just a bad call all around. -- AlFalling on the ball leaves a long FG possibility. No coach is going to risk that when a simple punt ends the game. Hardblow's snafu was not lining up his players to block when MSU rushed all eleven by putting two useless flankers out who neither could block nor had anyone downfield to tackle. A major coaching mistake. The punter could have saved him with a clean catch but the rush was on him quickly because there weren't enough blockers.
Egad. My UMd Terps have made offensive coordinator Mike Locksley head coach for the rest of the season. All I really know about him is that in his previous HC position at New Mexico he was 2-26 over 2+ seasons. That certainly doesn't bode well for a struggling program. He's got 6 games left to audition for next year. -- Al
Granted Michigan lost the game but at the start of the season no one thought they would have even been in any position to lose this game with 10 seconds left. Bottom line is that Michigan is way ahead of schedule in its rebuild and I begrudgingly tip my cap to Harbaugh.
Hardblow is a great coach. No doubt about it. Anyone who can turn Stanford into a powerhouse has to know his trade. It is as a person that he is sorely lacking. He did flub the dub on that punt though. Good to see him associated with that loss for the ages. UM can run the table for the next twenty years and that will be his legacy.

USC 38 Utah 24 - the NCAA compliant and squeaky clean mighty Trojan program shocks the world by crushing the #3 team. I think SC is even somehow the favorite in this game.
A lot of pundits are betting on USC or is it a sucker's bet? Who knows, I give up on trying to figure out how good or bad Utah is. I think they are ripe for an upset and USC coming off the coaching debacle is probably pretty hungry for a win. That said, nothing would surprise me on the outcome of this one. I actually think it is to USC's disadvantage to be the favorite for however much that is worth in the minds of young 20ish aged players.
