2015 College Football (4 Viewers)

A huge weekend for college football. Some really tough games to pick:

TCU 73 Oklahoma State 63 - they may burn up the scoreboard in this one. Another shootout that comes down to the last team to have the ball.

Clemson 31 Florida St. 27 - should be a close game. Clemson always seems to choke at least once and this could be it. Jimbo got Harbaughed a couple weeks ago. He hasn't seen a football player move as fast as that guy returning the blocked FG since the last police chase of one of his players. I like Clemson only because they are at home.

Alabama 27 LSU 17 - Bama seems to be back on track. Hard to beat Saban at home.

Nebraska 34 Michigan State 20 - the luckiest and unluckiest teams in college football. Nebraska has been snake bit. They are due to catch a break.

Very impressive win for the USNA today over #13 Memphis, who had been undefeated. Navy crushed them 45-20. Should get Navy into the Top 25. Go Navy! -- Al

What a wild day! I just caught the end of the Nebraska win over Michigan State. First off, what was Sparty doing allowing the game to be that close in the first place. Second, what's with the receiver going out of bounds and coming back in to make the catch. No way he was forced out. Last, what's Cook doing holding the ball for forever on the last play and letting the clock run out. The football gods claimed their pound of flesh for the Michigan win.

TCU loses...Memphis loses...Oh, and Northwestern somehow beat Penn State, moving to 7-2 on the year (with no offense to speak of). Go 'Cats!

A mediocre slate of games this weekend after all the big matchups last week:

USC 34 Colorado 24 - the mighty Trojans narrowly miss the snow this week heading into a Friday night matchup in Boulder. My California guys fare like the Italian soldiers on the Russian front in the cold. The Buffs have shown some fight. At home in the cold and wind could be a close game. Must win though for SC to have any hope of the PAC South title. Talent advantage should carry the day.

Alabama 40 Miss St. 17 - the Tide rolls on. They won't lose two games to a Miss school.

Baylor 37 Oklahoma 20 - Baylor is due to choke out of the rankings but I think they get by OK at home.

South Carolina 24 Florida 21 - UF is due for a letdown after clinching SEC champ game spot. On the road for a trap game.

Navy moves to 8-1 with a thumping of overmatched SMU, 55-14. Reynolds set the record for career rushing TD's and is now only 2 scores behind for the career total TD's. He rushed for 4 an threw for 1 today and should have had a least 2 more Td passes as his wide open receivers dropped 2 passes and he overthrew 2 other wide open receivers. Next up is Tulsa, then Houston. Army is the last regular season game. Navy could go 11-1 regular season. They should improve their #20 standing this week. -- Al

I heard Lame Kiffin's name come up regarding the MD job. He is a disaster.

Hadn't heard this one. Question is, will he be a worse disaster than the program currently is? Tough call. -- Al

Some big games this weekend but an amazing number of cupcake games. Bama plays Charleston Southern! They should be dropped out of the BCS for that. But on to the biggies:

Michigan 27 Penn St. 20 - Hardblow has UM ahead of schedule with a couple of close wins. Penn St. has shown improvement but not enough.

Oregon 49 USC 37 - through the miracle of parity the mighty Trojans are still in the race for the PAC South despite two conference losses. They could still win it even if they lose this game. The Quacks have too much firepower on O for the undermanned and poorly coached SC defense. Lots of points but mostly on the Duck side. I hope I've put the curse on team Nike though by picking them.

Ohio St. 30 Mich. St. 27 - if any team is due for an upset it is Ohio St. but they are playing old Sparky known for choking down in the big games. Warden Myers will have his team playing up to the competition and squeak out a win.

Oklahoma St. 54 Baylor 51 - I've picked all of these shootouts in the SW wrong. TCU, Texas Tech, OK St. and Baylor have too much O and no D making these games a pick em from week to week.

Middies stomp Tulsa 44-21, with 469 yards rushing, and throwing 3 passes the whole game. Next up is #19 Houston, who had been undefeated until UConn beat them today. Navy better be ready as Houston is gonna be mad. Middies having an unbelievable season at 9-1. Navy has a good chance to improve it's #16 rank as #13 Utah and #15 LSU both lost. Go Navy! -- Al

Both OSU's lost, Ohio state and Oklahoma State; shows you how little I pay attention to the rankings as I found ND ranked 4th.

Really?

And they squeaked by a pitiful BC team last night at Fenway.

So what now, ND moves up to #3; Oklahoma had better get into the top 4 now; if they don't, if they manage to knock of OSU, then they should be.

They lost they QB to injury last night, so we'll see....................

Mizzou lost... that was a good thing.

The Citadel beat South Carolina... another good thing.

The weekend could've been complete if Georgia would have lost.

The whole system is still a mess. How was Ohio State even ranked in the top 4? They hadn't played anyone until yesterday and when they did they lost.

On paper, Northwestern is having a great year. 9-2. Wins over Stanford, Duke (though that's not looking as good anymore), and Wisconsin. They should beat Illinois this week to finish 10-2.

They are PAINFUL to watch. The defense is so good that they take NO chances on offense. Yesterday against Wisconsin they threw the ball exactly ZERO times on first down. Not once! Guess what - Wisconsin learned to stuff the run. We ran the same zone read 1.2 zillion times and kept hitting a wall. Thankfully the Badgers turned the ball over 5 times and provided the most bizarre ending to a game I've seen in a long time (two touchdowns on two plays both overturned on review). The sad part of the win is that we just reinforced the conservative mindset.

But we're 9-2. Some years everything falls your way.

For schools like Northwestern and Stanford good sports teams are just the icing on the cake. Academically both are in the top 12 schools in the nation.

UMd has had a disaster of a season but they had a great win today, over Rutgers 46-41. The great thing about the win was that UMd trailed 31-10 in the 2nd quarter and 31-13 at the half. After amassing 19 yards of offense in the 1st quarter, the Terps ended the game with 656 yards of offense, 401 on the ground. They had Td runs of 42, 43, 44, and 80 yards in their highest offense output since 2004. Ultimately, it was payback to Rutgers who rallied late in last year's game in a 41-38 win. It may not be much in a lost season, but it was fun to watch. -- Al

Looks like the top four are all but locked up with Clemson, Alabama and Oklahoma all in, with Iowa playing Michigan State for the #4 spot.

Michigan State had that miracle win over Michigan to help them get this far, beating Ohio State was huge as well.

Only team with a beef is Ohio State, but had they beaten Michigan State at home vs their back up QB, all they'd have to do is beat Iowa to get in.

Should be two very good games.................

Great game between Stanford and Notre Dame last night. Stanford is a class act with Shaw and Hogan. A real contrast to most major college sports programs.

That was a great game but a brutal loss. Obviously a second guess but perhaps ND should have taken some time off the clock when they had the ball within the 5, especially since they had one timeout left. Also, that face mask really hurt.

Oklahoma won and are 100% in, thankfully no league championship game to worry about, guess that loss to a crap Texas team didn't end up ruining their season afterall.

Alabama/Oklahoma is going to be a great game, two teams I like, but I'm pulling for OU to win and advance.

Hoping Iowa beats MSU as they are undefeated and were it not for the league championship game, they'd advance at 11-0.

MSU is a muffed punt/miracle return for a TD away from being out altogether..................

Rumors of Shaw to the Niners continue in the Bay Area. I hope he stays at Stanford. And you are right, Hogan and Shaw are class acts who epitomize Stanford.
