2015 College Football (2 Viewers)

Reports sneaking out that Steve Spurrier is retiring, effective immediately. -- Al

That is really strange. It has the feel of a coach quitting on his team while they are down. He should have done this after last season or stuck it out this year. Bizarre week for college football particularly with teams with the initials of USC. Both lost their coaches this week. And it's only Tuesday.

If you got them right too often, you might be tempted to quit your day job and head to Vegas. I can see it now: Padre Pete Knows How to Pick 'Em! Film at 11 {eek3}

Just call my 1-900 number for my STONE COLD LEAD PIPE LOCKS. The first minute is free!!

Yeah, I could get into this...

Saw the ESPN 30 for 30 last night called "Trojan War", all about the USC program that Pete Carroll ran until 2009.

A terrific program; wow was that 2003-2006 team loaded, I mean loaded, should have gotten the "Three Pete" as one sign said at the Rose Bowl vs Texas.

USC blew that game, first with the stupid Bush lateral that was fumbled, then the INT on the one yard line.

Still had the thing won but couldn't convert a fourth and one to ice the game, then Vince "Run first, pass second" Young took over.

They pumped him up like he was some superman; he completely flamed out in the NFL, was ahead of his time for the college game the way he ran the ball like many teams do now.

That whole program blew up because Bush took some money from an agent (like that's never happened before) and his parents lived in a house for nothing (like that's also never happened before)..................IMO, the NCAA way, WAY overstepped themselves with the punishment they handed down. They basically wiped everything Bush did at USC out of the record books, he had to give back his Heisman.

What a pack of frauds the NCAA is, talk about pathetic......................

Just watched the same program last night, and also came to the same conclusion about the sanctions. You would have thought Bush was an ax-murderer. :rolleyes2: -- Al

I was at the Orange Bowl BCS game when SC ran Adrian Peterson's Oklahoma team out of the stadium. A brutal beatdown. That was one if the greatest college teams of all time. The NCAA committee did a hatchet job on SC because those making the decision were from rival schools like ND and Florida. A real travesty.

Talk about overkill; they gutted that program for years to come as result.

Another example of a college coach who was set for life, a God at Florida, yet that wasn't good enough, he went to the NFL and was a train wreck and was never the same, the game has clearly passed him by.

At least Saban bailed on the NFL after one year and is back where he belongs; Chip Kelly will soon be back in college, his Harry High School offense is not working in the NFL.

Chip Kelly will be next; his Harry High School offense is not working in the NFL, Carroll will follow him soon as well, Seattle is still broken over blowing the Super Bowl last year.................

Sad news circulating in Southern California (although unverified at this point and just talk on the radio). Steve Sarkisian's drinking was only an issue once they lost to Washington, if they had continued to win then it would have been over-looked. It was apparently known that he was drunk at several meetings as well as some games well before this last weekend.

At this point it is just a rumor. However, in today's college football "win at all costs" world it would not be the least bit surprising if true.

Sark showed up drunk at a preseason event and made an arse of himself. He supposedly was put on notice that if it happened again he was toast. And it happened again. I'm amazed at the sympathy for him even among SC fans. Here is a guy making $3 million/yr to coach kids and he shows up drunk for games and practices. I realize alcohol addiction is a terrible thing but people were comparing it to a having a disability or health issue like Sark had no personal responsibility and questioning whether SC could fire a coach in that situation. Imagine a university not being legally able to fire an employee who is responsible for students who shows up drunk. LOL. It's a strange world. Bottom line. Sark was a mediocre coach and couldn't handle his personal life in a responsible manner. So he is toast. If anything SC went out of its way to give him a second chance. There is no way Haden fires the guy who he personally hired without giving him the benefit of the doubt many times over. This is all on Sark.

Some big games this weekend. Have to get my picks in before Pistol Pete throws down the gauntlet:

Northwestern 24 Iowa 20 - this game will be a cure for insomnia but NW bounces back at home against an overrated Iowa team.

Bama 34 Texas A&M 23 - Bama seems to have found its offense despite Lame "victory cancer" Kiffin not being fired.

Michigan St. 40 Michigan 17 - with all the buzz for Harbaugh they forgot that his team is not very good. Say goodbye to those shut outs. MSU is going to show no mercy.

LSU 31 Florida 20 - another surprise team hits the wall. Les Miles gets all the luck. He picks up an extra home game last week because of the flooding in South Carolina and this week he gets Florida after losing their starting QB.

USC 27 ND 24 - a horrific week and a half for Troy after the disastrous loss to UW and Sark getting the ax. On the road with a chip on their shoulder they should come ready to play for the new coach. My only concern is whether the SC D can play physical enough to get stops in the second half when the game is on the line.

Time for Padre Pete's Pathetic Picks - Take these to Vegas (flip the scores) and you're guaranteed to win!

Northwestern 13 Iowa 10 - The only real game of the day. I grew up bleeding black and gold. I'm a Hawkeye...unless we're playing the 'Cats. The old Alma Mater bounces back today with the defense stepping up to shut down a depleted Iowa squad whose only quality win was against a Wisconsin team intent on giving the game away.

Bama 31 Texas A&M 10- Every time I give in to my hope that Alabama is finally slipping they beat the snot out of someone. I'm not convinced on A&M.

Michigan 20 Michigan St. 17
- The only way to explain Michigan's demolishing of Northwestern last week is to admit that the Wolverines are good. Michigan State has much more in them than they have shown, but the Maize & Blue is on a tear.

LSU 28 Florida 10- Without Will 'Can't read the label of a supplement' Grier I don't see the Gators doing much. You can't lose your quarterback right before a big game. Apparently reading isn't a top priority in Gainesville.

USC 27 ND 24 - I'm going to stick with Combat on this one. Either USC rallies together and plays like it should have all year...or they have a complete collapse. In a rivalry game like this one I expect the former. I'm still not impressed by Notre Dame.

OMG! I know an Australian punter who had better not show his face in Ann Arbor for the rest of his life.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Stick to rugby kid is all I can say.

The beauty of sports, the thing that people who are not sports fans will ever get, is you never, ever know what you are going to see when you watch a game.

Needless to say, I am still stunned.

All he has to do is field the snap and kick; if he bobbles it, JUST FALL ON THE BALL...............nope, he Yepremianed it, tried to kick it and it went to a defender and the only shot MSU has there is for him to run it all the way back, which he did.

Just incredible.............................

It was one of, if not the most, incredibly bungled endings I have EVER seen. Harbaugh will remember this one forever. -- Al

Wow. Maybe the most brutal loss in history. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy than Harblow. LOL.

Michigan State almost gave me a heart attack at the end. I thought they did not play well, especially on dropped passes. I stopped hanging my state flag a few years ago when they would lose every time I hung out the flag. During the last five minutes I took off my state shirt and wow! they won. :)

Wow...good day to be a State man but got to reallllllly suck for Michigan to lose on the last play of the game, congrats to big Green on a tough win...Sammy

USC looked like they were in big trouble early but have it tied up at half. Nice comeback. Their D still worries me.

Like the commentators said after the game, "they'll be talking about this one for decades." Kind of feel sorry for the punter. Chris

This is all I have to say.
