2015 NHL season (2 Viewers)

OK, now I'm thinking, holy s--- if they win the next series they are going to the finals. It never ends. But right now I'm one happy camper.

Was reading about the history of the NHL the other day; back during the first wave of expansion, the league went from 6 teams to 12 in 1967.

They set it up so that the original 6 played in one conference, the 6 expansion teams in another with the winners playing in the finals, which explains why the Blues got demolished in the finals 3 times.

Even back in the stone age the NHL couldn't get a simple thing like a playoff format right.

Hard to believe Dallas was the top team in the west, but I guess the same could be said for the Caps in the east. Both gone in the second round.

At least the Caps had better uniforms. Dallas' uniform was downright ugly.

Can't believe Dallas spent 10 million on those two goalies, one's worse than the other.

Seguin came up big in the series.............:rolleyes2:, man is he soft, sack up and get out there. St. Louis caught a huge break with him not playing.

Their defense is not much better; on one of the St. Louis goals, it was a perfect Tic, Tac, Toe series of passes to the open guy who rifled it into the net.

Goaltending in the NHL has come down to finding the tallest guy, throwing those gigantic goalie pads on him and have him sit on the ice and take away half of the net; just go stick side high, so simple yet it's a lost art in hockey..................hoping and praying for an original 12 final, Penguins/Blues so I will have a team to root for and also against...............San Jose/Pittsburg would be a great series too, again I'd have a rooting interest in that one too; if it's Nashville/Tampa, adios..............

Gary,

Have you been to any of the games? Take that K & C sale money and enjoy your team in person.

Not sure what line was longer after the game last night; the cars trying to get out of the parking lot or the fans returning their Stars jerseys at the pro shop...............and yes, those uniforms are downright ugly.

Top ten best jerseys are Blackhawks, Rangers, Bruins, Maple Leafs, Islanders, Canadiens, Red Wings, Penguins, Oilers and Sabres.

I'd put the Kings in the top ten if they went back to the classic purple and gold vs that crappy rollerball black uniform with awful LA logo.

99% of the expansion uniforms post WHA additions are terrible..................

Probably not PC but who cares but I've always loved the Blackhawk logo. It's classic. The island on the Islanders is also but now they play in Brooklyn in a place that apparently not well suited for hockey. The playoff games were not sell outs. If they can't succeed in Brooklyn they probably will move, maybe to Canada, since the chance of getting a new place on LI is less than zero.

Scoring has apparently dropped off quite a bit this year. No thanks to those two stiffs in goal for Dallas. Basically a result of the oversized goalie equipment like strapping a mattress to each leg and blocking 80% of the goal without even moving. I've read that is an issue the NHL is going to take up over the summer. Maybe they can also get the refs a bigger monitor for replays. That is ridiculous to see them straining to see an offside on those small screens while the fans are looking up at the jumbotron above their heads. I'm thinking Pens-Blues at this point unless they are both worn out by playing the best teams in the first two rounds while Tampa had a cake walk.

Would love to see a Pens/Blues final. Gary, we can bet Chicago hot dogs on it! That said, the Pens need to keep the heat turned up to make it to the next round. It is going to be difficult as playoffs always are. Fast start and keeping momentum going and LESS penalties! Not being a huge year round fan, I tell you, the penalty calling seems arbitrary at best, but that is an admittedly uneducated opinion. I have trouble figuring out the rules as a casual fan.

Was going to comment on the finals but I don't want to jinx anything. Hope Nashville wins tonight as I would rather play them.
Pittsburg should beat Tampa if they can keep the puck in play. Three delay of games in 2 minutes in game 6. The hockey gods were with them that night.

It is a big sports night for me, the Sharks have a game 7 and the Spurs face elimination at OKC.

Of the 2 I would rather the Sharks win as they have never won the Cup. Besides, the Spurs are only prolonging the inevitable as the Warriors will clearly win it all this year. Plus I am a way bigger NHL fan than I am an NBA fan.

That's too bad about the Islanders, if they move to Canada, at least the country will have one legit playoff team.

Imagine the country that invented the sport fields a pack of tomato cans like Montreal, Ottawa, the Maple Laughs, Edmonton (they've had the #1 pick 42 years in a row and they still stink), Calgary and Loseipeg, a bunch of train wrecks.

It's bad enough no playoff teams, but imagine the reaction if a CA or FL team wins the cup...........................(or, perish the thought, a team from Nashville).............the whole country will implode...........

Panzer Ace, please tell me the Sharks are not this good? How did Nashville beat them three games?
See you Sunday in St Louis.

Tomato can teams...harsh George ,harsh. Your B/P has been up ever since the US televised games took away that fancy blue puck technology. Wait until Las Vegas gets a team. You will have to double up on your B/P medication then.
Take the weekend off from hockey, sell some toy soldiers, make a few diorama's, take the wife out for supper, watch some reruns of Hogan's Heroes'....relax. Those negative waves will eat you up man!!

The Sharks looked like they were playing seven on three last night. A brutal beat down. Their power play has been lethal.

I gave up on hockey when NBC retired Peter Puck......................oh well; if nothing else, you'll always have that championship the Whalers won posing as the Hurricanes, I bet people in Carolina talk about that to this day with fondness..........................

Gary:

I am as surprised as anyone. When the playoffs started I thought they were a decent team that might get to the 2nd round. Suddenly they look like a Cup favorite?

The power play is clicking, the goaltending is solid and they just don't make many mistakes. The same goes for St. Louis so it should be a great series. I truly want the Sharks to win it all, but if they are going to lose I hope it is to your Blues. You deserve a championship.

Best,
Jason

Nope moved on to bigger issues here in NC...HB2 and depending on which team you play for that day depends on going to the right bathroom. Anyways that's political so I won't comment further on the matter....back to putt'n the biscuit in the basket as they say in hockey.
No predictions but would like to see Sid the kid win one for the gipper, the Bolts win one for Yzerman , the Blues win one for Gary(although that would increase the value of his Blue's jersey's collection and we would never hear the end of it) and the Sharks for having the beards of woodsmen.
