Eight down, three to go.

The umps got the blown call right in the first inning.

I'm running out of things to say about this team, watching them being introduced, then seeing them raking all night long, got a bit dusty here for me, so @#$%^&* proud of this team, just amazing.

More work to do, keep grinding boys.

Great night for sports in Boston, the World Series is going and so are the Bruins against my Sharks.

One game all as the Cards got the pitching they needed to win game 2. In fact, both teams got good pitching with decent starts by Wacha and Lackey but the St. Louis bullpen was particularly sharp and held the Sox scoreless during their 3 innings work. I want to say Boston now has a slight advantage with the vets Bucchholz and Peavy slated for the next 2 games, but with the games in St. Louis and both pitchers having had some post-season problems, my take is that both games will be pick 'ems. Still, veteran pitchers have a way of coming through in the clutch and then there is Ortiz, who is putting up MVP numbers so far. I feel that a split is likely but wouldn't rule out Boston taking both games over the weekend. -- Al

Too bad about last night, some defensive screw ups hurt them, first the double steal where Salty couldn't get the ball out of his glove, then the error on the fly ball, throw in an error on the throw afterward and you've got two runs.

On that play, the runner on second was dead, caught in no mans land, had Gomes thrown to second, he's out, inning over.

Cardinals bullpen came through, all even now at 1-1.

Read this morning the Cardinals starter from game one might come back in game 4 on short rest, Wacha Wacha Wacha might go in game 5 on short rest, not sure about that move. Boy do the announcers love that kid, wow did they prattle on and on about his greatness.

Right before he gave up the two run bomb to Ortiz.

Too bad about last night.

Wacha is having a very good post season but that's due in part to his newness. The book isn't out on him yet so hitters haven't been able to make the adjustments. He may be a very good pitcher but until he's been around the league, the jury is still out on him.

Story has surfaced that the Washington Nationals are going to hire Matt Williams as their next manager to replace retired Davey Johnson. He should be a good fit but he is going to have to deal with damage control from the get go as there was a lot of clubhouse support for the in-house hire of thirdbase coach Randy Knorr as manager. Nats fans, stand by... -- Al

Sounds like Lincecum from 4 years ago.

Game 3 is proving to be a real corker. Cards have had a 2-run lead twice and have been unable to hold them. Got a 4-all game going into the bottom of 8. This is a great WS game. Sox just won't lay down. -- Al

Ugly way for the game to end. Looked like a completely inadvertent obstruction. Just flow of the play. May be the correct call, but I don't think so and it is a sad way for Boston to lose. A WS game shouldn't end on such a borderline judgment call. Ruined a terrific game. -- Al

Al, even tho I watched the Blues Hockey game, then switched to the WS, I called that obstruction as soon as it happened. Absolutely a correct call.
Gary

Unfortunately, it was the correct call. The umpires said intent doesn't matter. Notwithstanding, it's a terrible way for the game to end. All of Boston must be sick.

It would help if you're going to make that call that you, oh I don't know, ACTUALLY SEE IT............

The runner scores easily there if they don't get tangled up, so I guess it's the right call, but what a chicken @#$% way for a world series game to end.

What a nutpunch.

This series has 1975 written all over it; Sox smoked the Reds in game 1 by a score of 7-0, everyone was laughing at how easy it was, were up 2-1 and blew a late inning lead and lost 3-2 in game two, then the infamous Ed Armbrister non call for interference, the Sox lost game three as a result.

I don't want to see Salty on the field again the rest of the year, he's an automatic out at the plate and is a liability behind the plate.

Regardless of the interference call, he never in a million years should have made the throw, give your closer a shot to finish the inning, not to mention you've got the heart of the order coming up, Napoli in the wings to pinch hit and the Cardinals burned their closer already.

So now the season basically comes down the Buchholz the Sally on the mound tomorrow night, if they lose they are done, not going to win three in a row if they go down 3-1.

The whole season comes down to you pitching lights out Clay, so sack up and get the job done vs the tomato can the Cardinals are throwing out there.

No pressure.

I wonder if that bit of interference and lousy throw to 3B will be the new "Buckner moment" for the Red Sox Nation...

Dave

Definitely a correct call....If you look very carefully at the re-play in slow motion, it appears that the 3rd basement bent both knees when he was face down raising both his feet up, as the runner tried to move over him down the baseline....It may have been an un-intentional trip...???.. but it was a trip up of the runner......Very bad way to end a game:(...but the call had to be made.....Sox are not done yet but must win game 4.

Hi Guys,

Totally agree that it was the right or rather correct call and if they dont win tonight it is all over but the crying...

Hardly. In 1986 they hadn't won the World Series in nearly 70 years and they were one pitch away. The Red Sox have won it twice in the last 10 years and this was only game 3. In a series tied 1-1 or 2-2 the next game is not the crucial game as someone will have to win it. In such a series the crucial game is game 4 (or game 6). Had they lost this way in game 4, that would be devastating but still nothing like 1986.

Moreover, considering they won 69 games last year, I think everything is gravy at this point.

Media and fans were writing the Cards off after game 1 and are probably doing the same now with the Sox. Momentum is only as good as today's pitcher.

This series is only getting warmed up.

Hi Gary. Yeah, it was the correct call. My lament was more about the way a very good game ended. Kind of hard to enjoy the ending. At any rate, I'm sure the next game will be just as good. -- Al

I'm a Yankees fan, and I thought it was at best a questionable call. Runners and fielders get tangled up at Second base all the time on overthrows on base stealing attempts, and you can go an entire season without seeing that call. To see it decide a tied World Series game with two outs and extra innings ahead was weak.

The one thing I would say is, what the heck was Saltalamaccia thinking making the throw to third? It would have taken a perfect throw to get the runner at third, and, if you hold the ball, its 2 outs with you virtually unhittable closer on the mound.
