So the Mets score the go ahead run in a WS game on an error by the first baseman.

Gee, how often does that happen?

What in the name of Christ is Yost doing having Cain bunt there?

Unbelievable.

All the Mets have to do to win this series is have Terry Collins outmanage Ned Yost; let that one sink in for a minute.

Brad:

The Mets are 0-5 in Game 1's of the WS. Yet they still have 2 championships. Hang tough and throw the numbers out the window.

Despite La Familia blowing that save (at least it wasn't one of those walk/steal second/advance to third on a bunt/score on a fly ball/cheap *** national league runs), the Mets are still set up to win this; Degrom tonight, what'shisname on Friday, then the home town hero kid from Long Island/Queens/wherever/the announcers can't stop ballwashing on Saturday, then you go back to Harvey/DeGrom/What'shisname.

Their pitching is loaded...................

That was a rough one. Not much sleep last night. Shades of game 4 of the 1988 NLCS, my bête noire. Familia picked a great time to blow a save (but is there really ever a good time to do so). Hope that gets it out of his system. They were essentially done after that. Kelly Johnson and Cuddeyer (but especially Cuddeyer) looked terrible at the plate. You could quibble about Collins taking out Conforto in the 6th were it not for the job Lagares did but that's just a little too early for that. Wright is a liability at third; because of his back he can't throw like he used to. Not sure what you do that. Collins will probably do nothing but it's a potential problem.

Hope deGrom has it tonight. He hasn't looked that great in the post season although he's come out smelling like a rose, which is why he got an extra day of rest. Harvey was rusty against the Dodgers because of the layoff following the regular season but was then very sharp against the Cubs when he was on regular rest. Another layoff and wasn't as sharp as he could be. He'll be back on regular rest so he should be sharper for game 5.

Mets lost game 1 in 1969 and 1986 (as well as game 2) so it's not the end of the world. In a close series the odd numbered games aren't the crucial ones.

Where is Jerry Grote now that the Mets need him? He is the only Mets player that I can name other than Rusty Staub from my baseball card collecting days. On the Royals side I can name George Brett. I think his brother might have been a relief pitcher.

Evidently, Bud Black is to be the next manager for the Nats, according to local reports. -- Al

I'm becoming convinced that the Royals are a very good team, just better than the Mets or anyone else.

No crime to lose to a better team. Unless the Mets turn this around tonight it could be a short series.

He doesn't impress me. The Padres gave him a good team and he couldn't make it work. The Giants must be thankful that he's no longer their mgr or they wouldn't have three titles.

That was my opinion, too. I guess we'll see in DC now that we have another west coaster to lead us. -- Al

I guess he's better than Williams. Looks like the Mets will be joining the Nats soon in planning for next year.

I am a little shocked at how this is playing out. I figured the Mets to split in KC, if not actually taking both behind Harvey and deGrom. If this stands I guess I'll be forced to admit that KC is a much better team than I thought they were, record aside. I really thought that the Mets starting pitching would dominate this series but that's not how it's working out. I find myself wondering if the regular season inning load on the Mets starters is catching up to them, or if KC is just that good. -- Al

I think it's the latter. To a certain extent this series is reminiscent of the 2000 WS. Mets had game 1 won but Benitez blew it and that changed the series. The same thing might have happened last night. The Mets gave it away. If Mets win, they're probably in great shape. Not the case however. Mets can use the off day.

Syndergaard has to pull the Mets fat out of the fire and he is perfectly capable of it. Time to regroup and get their act together. I'm still can't believe KC is this good, but I didn't spend much time following the AL Central and West divisions so what do I know.:rolleyes2: Game 3 is do or die. -- Al

The key was last nights game; if their closer doesn't blow that game, they're 1-1 heading home and in the drivers seat.

Now they've lost with their two best pitchers going, plus their bats are stone cold.

Murphy and Cespedes need to wake up.

The Royals are relentless, 1-9 they rake, they have a terrific approach from at bat to at bat.

I've said it before, but baseball is a funny game; the Royals were down 6-2 in the 8th inning in an elimination game. They rallied and haven't looked back, been on a roll ever since.

They have guts and keep coming at you. The blown save looks huge, but those things happen (seem to remember one in 04), and there is, as Brad said, no good time for one. -- Al

This reminds me of Torres first Yankee team vs the mighty Braves. No one expected the Yanks to compete with what was considered the best pitching staff in baseball and after going down 0 games to 2 ( after a 14-1 bowout ), it looked like the better team was a shoo in. History showed differently, and if the Mets have any grit, they can beat the Royals and make their own new history. The best teams do not always win out..Michael
