Without Murphy they lose. The offense was horrible. Reminds me of the Mets in June, July when if they scored three runs it was a lot and the pitchers had to battle every inning. Of course, they were facing two of the best. The Cubs are not that deep pitching but they can hit.

It's not always about pure hitting, it's clutch hitting that really matters, just ask the Dodgers, they could not get the key hit last night.

Will be an interesting series, we'll see if the Mets pitching can shut down the Cubs mashers..................

I assume everyone knows about the curse of the goat. Eons ago, the Cubs wouldn't let some guy bring in his goat into the stadium (not sure it was Wrigley) and he got ticked off and put a curse on the Cubs, which they still haven't shaken. Do you know the name of the goat? Yup, you guessed it? Murphy!

That is an omen, to be sure. I have a feeling the new curse will be something closer to deGromsydergaardharveymatzcolon...:wink2:^&grin-- Al

Congrats to the Mets. The Dodgers weren't going any further in the playoffs with their anemic hitting anyway. If a team can't win a playoff series with Kershaw and Grienke pitching four out of five then they are toast. And great job by Mattingly not playing Puig. He has reduced him from an all star to a highly payed ball boy who sits on the bench in the playoffs. The Dodgers should either trade Puig or better yet fire Mattingly who has the personality of Jim Harbaugh but without his ability to win. The worst of both worlds. The most exciting part of the game last night was watching Larry King sit motionless while trophy wife #8 stared at her phone. I was certain he had died a couple of times.

I still can't understand why they signed Rollins. We knew he was way past his expiration date in Philly several seasons before the Phils dealt him to LA for Windle and Eflin (for Eflin alone, the Phils have got the better of the deal). I know, the Dodgers wanted a backup shortstop, but still. "Hmm--this milk is sour. I'll put it back in the fridge. Maybe it'll be fresh tomorrow."

Thanks Doug. I have to agree with you. In games 1 and 5, the Dodgers had tons of chances and didn't cash in; deGrom had nothing yesterday but he battled. On the other hand Kershaw and Greinke were masterful and gave the Mets very few opportunities but did cash in the ones they had.

Regarding Puig, I watched a National Dodger game earlier this year and I was shocked at his numbers. I have no idea what happened but this guy is a talent.

I assume Mattingly is gone. He shouldn't have taken Kershaw out of game 1. He probably gets Wright out and then who knows.

I read that this most recent series was the first time in Cubs' history that they had clinched a playoff series at home. If that is correct, it is hard to believe since they have been playing practically since the game was invented. Talk about futility. Here are the names of all the Cubs players that I can remember without looking any up: Ernie Banks. ESPN did an interesting film on the that poor sad sack fan who reached over and interfered with a foul ball a few years back in a playoff game that lead to a Cubs loss. They had to take him out under police protection. The mob wanted to rip him to pieces. Brutal to watch the immediate aftermath when the TV cameras kept cutting back to the guy.

I read that too and was amazed; first time they've won a series at home.

For whatever reason, the Red Sox and Cubs get compared all the time; nope, sorry, not even close.

Since 1940, the Red Sox have the fourth best W-L record in MLB. The Cubs? Try 25th. The Sox since 1945 have been to seven World Series and are 3-4, the four they lost all went seven games. The Cubs? None, as in not one trip to the World Series.

And I saw that ESPN 30 for 30 about Bartman, "Catching Hell" was the title, it was brilliant and like you said, they had to disguise the guy and smuggle him out of the stadium like a hostage or else that mob would have ripped him to shreds. All of that over him reaching for a foul ball like numerous other people were doing. Plus, Alou claims he would have caught the ball; yeah right, he would have been better off playing left field with a trash can lid instead of a glove.

Well until 1969 the only series that they could have won would have been the World Series and we know that didn't happen. Last WS win was in 1908 and that was before Wrigley Field. In 1984 and 1989 they could have won the NLCS but if they had they would have made it to the World Series. In 1998, 2003, 2007 and 2008 they could win a series and not make it to the World Series. They did but once and that was on the road in 2003, I believe beating the Braves.

Ticket prices have dropped some at CitiField, probably due to sellers not wanting to get stuck with them. Were it not that I have to go to NY early Monday, I would probably go to Sunday's game. I will probably to see how prices are trending gor games 6 and 7, unless Mets have wrapped it up by then :wink2:

Blue Jays foul up a pop-up to start the 7th and it all went to Hades in a hand-basket from there. 6 hits and 5 runs as Price once again cements his post-season reputation for disaster. Toronto certainly did have a chance to win the game. They were one hit away from breaking the game open when they got 2 runs and bases loaded. They fell apart soon after that and gave up 5 runs mainly on singles including the first bloop that should have been caught by the right fielder.
