Chicago 2008 (1 Viewer)

Since you're in Illinois, either come up on Thursday, Friday or Saturday for the room trading. No admission required. On Sunday, you'll need a ticket, however.

Time certainly seems to fly by. It seems like just the other day you guys were planning your trips for the 2007 show. I thought is it not a bit early this time round then I remembered that June is well underway so Spet is only about 3 months away. Once that is over it will be the Christmas countdown.
Oh well I must just be getting older.
Regards
Damian

Well, this will be my first Chicago show, I can't wait, I guess I won't really know the difference of the change in rules. As long as they still allow the late night indulgence of adult beverages, I will be fine. I invite all to join me in a few drinks. Do they allow cigar smoking in Illinois anywhere???

TD

Hi Tom,

it would be a great pleasure to join you for a good cigar and an "adult" refreshment. Will try and do some search if there is a bar around where cigar smoking is allowed.
Nothing better then a cigar and a drink after a hard long day of "Toy Soldiers" :)

Now this is a good discussion topic! Unfortunately after research, cigar smoking is no longer allowed in Illinois according to their smoking ban, another one bites the dust. I hope my hotel has a balcony..............

Smoking Ban ???/ Really???? Illinois USA?????? The last bastion of smoking in restaurants. Say it ain't so! Well I never! Whew! Some of those restaraunts were killing me. Smoking section??????:D:D:D

Governor "Fast Eddie" Spendell wants to push the same thing through here in the PASSR.

We've evolved so far as find now, in the penumbrae generated by the Constitution, an individual's right to go anywhere, and no rights for a private business owner to run his establishment as he chooses.

That's OK, that's why we have our hobby, to forget about the real world for a while.

Prost!

No public place to be found where one can sit back and enjoy a good cigar
Tried to find anything today for about two hours. No luck.
That is "very dissapointing". Can't write the words here that I really would like to use. They don't show up right, all come up like a bunch of *** ;).
There are still public places where you can buy cigars .

Queensland has the toughest state anti smoking laws in Australia:

# no-smoking anywhere inside pubs, clubs, restaurants and workplaces
# no-smoking in commercial outdoor eating or drinking areas
# no-smoking in outdoor public places such as patrolled beaches, children’s playground equipment, major sport stadiums and within 4 metres of non-residential building entrances
# no sales of tobacco products to children under 18 years of age
# mandatory training of employees who sell tobacco
# mandatory no-smoking and quit smoking signs
# restrictions on how tobacco products can be displayed at retail outlets
# no tobacco advertising or competitions
# tobacco vending machines must be located in bar or poker machine areas only.

And soon you won't be able to smoke in a enclosed vehicle with children in it.

Over 80% of Aussies are non-smokers and most of the remainder want to quit.

I am a cigar smoker, don't really care about the other smoking issues, the thing that really burns my posterior is the fact that cigar bars are affected by these bans. NOW, I ask you, who in their right mind would choose to work in a cigar bar if you were bothered by the smoke????????????????

They exist b/c of cigars. Good news here in Baltimore, the Havana Club atop Ruth's Chris Steakhouse has received the very first EXEMPTION, back in business~!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure, but I suspect Cigar Bars have disappeared in Australia as they are classified as a public place. As for working in a Cigar Bar, it's more of a health issue and possible litigation rather than the fondness or not of cigar smoke.

My two cents - the Smoking Ban in Washington, DC is just stupid - they even have a ban in private clubs in DC !

There is one smoking bar in DC it is Shelly's Backroom - it open a few years back and now is crowded like all get out !

I was interviewed by the Legal Times back in 2006 - where I warned my fellow lobbyists that the DC Government would enact this ban and then business as we knew it would change - it did !

Shelly's has a whole wall of Humidor lockers - I have one :D - and it is probally more valuable than my Beach Condo in Florida !

It is a shame that the health Nazi's have gained ground on this issue.

SMOKE FREE OR DIE ! - John Adams after a long day in the Continental Congress :D

I will be arriving Friday morning and staying until Monday morning. I decided to stay for the show and dinner with Andy this year (I usually arrive Wednesday and leave Saturday night).

Ron you guys need to unban Havana cigars, still the best around I am afraid to say.

Brad, Louis - arriving Thursday, leaving hotel Sunday around 3:30.

Damian,

Habanos are around.........................

I cannot confirm or deny my knowledge of such contraband and where it resides............

TD
Need to know basis then.
I am not at liberty to discuss such issues even if they did exist
