College Football 2013 (2 Viewers)

Some people take college football way too seriously. Saw a news item today that a female Alabama fan shot and killed another female Alabama fan after the loss for failing to be appropriately upset enough. I wonder if alcohol was involved?:wink2: -- Al

I read the accused drank multiple shots before the shooting. Chris

Yeah, a horrific tragedy to say the least. The woman was a young mother and died in her sisters arms (if the account I read was correct).

This tragedy doesn't really surprise me. My brother is a Bama grad who goes to a local tavern on game days to watch the games with other local Bama grads. I went with him, ONCE, and will never repeat it. Those people are nuts. Screaming, cussing, completely out of control whenever the smallest thing goes against The Tide. And these are 'mature' adults, not students. These guys were in their 40's and up. The joke in our family is "if Bama losses, whose turn is it to stand suicide watch?" on my brother. As I said, some people take this stuff way too seriously. Haven't talked to my brother since the loss. Need to give him some breathing room, besides, it wasn't my turn to watch him.:rolleyes2::wink2::tongue: -- Al

The NCAA has another hot potato on its plate with the Florida St. QB and Heisman candidate facing sexual assault charges. I'm surprised they didn't hold this up until the day after the National Championship game ala T'eo's fake girlfriend. The fact that they are addressing it this week means the police in Florida don't intend to charge him. Shocker!

Also rumors that Saban is considering the Texas job. That would be huge news and put everyone in the state of Alabama on suicide watch.

Ok, i am an FSU Hack, but seriously, take a research on the FSU QB story. Once you get out of the mainstream media sensationalism, this appears to be a non story, more of a soap opera starring the accuser. Who knows what really happened at this point, but it appears the only thing the guy is guilty of is indiscriminately NOT keeping it in his pants. They just don't make brains smart enough for young 20something Males.

Tom:

After hearing the State's Attorney today it is clear that the decision not to charge Winston was correct.

IF all the evidence is true (ie lacking) and this nut accused him out of spite, it is a hard lesson for that young man to learn. When you are in the spotlight, unfortunately, you have to really watch what you are doing at all times. IF all about the accuser is true, Winston should sue her to all ends of the Earth. She basically has character asssasinated him and gotten away with it. I saw the family's quote and they basically still labeled him a rapist, somehow that is just not right.

At the very least, the timing of the announcement is fishy. The Heisman ballots are due on Monday. After a lengthy investigation they announce no charges on the Thursday before. I'm sure that is just a coincidence and wasn't influenced by FSU. These guys would be tarred and feathered if they brought charges against the Heisman candidate on the #1 team and force him to sit out the national championship game. It's questionable whether they should have brought charges or not, but didn't he deny having sex with this girl? Now he admits it, but only after the DNA test confirmed the results. So we know he lied to the police during the investigation. That's a crime in some places. The whole thing stinks with the DA yucking it up like Boss Hogg at the press conference. I'm sure the victim will get a big payoff too.

Chris, the big game is nearly here and you and I both know that the season record means very little in the Army-Navy contest, but my take is that this year your prediction will be accurate. Navy has played some good ball while Army has faded. I'm Navy all the way but I watch for the tradition and pure fun of seeing the ground pounders and the swabbies play in this rivalry. Ultimately, with these two teams, you just never know who will win. Go Navy! ^&grin -- Al

Al/Chris:

I read an article the other day about fans and their bucket list games. It asked if you could attend a game in each sport at all levels (excluding playoiff games etc.) who would you want to see play. For example, the most popular NBA game was the Celtics v. the Lakers or the NFL was the Bears v. the Packers, MLB was the Yankees v the Sox etc. The game with the highest percent was Army v. Navy in college football. A whopping 84% of those polled chose that game. Impressive and so well deserved.

Not going to get into this on this forum,, but do research on this case, Winston NEVER made any statement ever to the Police as he was never asked originally b/c the evidence and eyewitness testimony was so clear and the DA never allowed him to make a statement. The mainstream media as usual blew this up and made it news. Basically, the girl is of questionable character, the eyewitnesses included friends of both of them, it was not the first time they had relations, etc etc etc. Seriously, this was old news in Florida a year ago, it was only news b/c he was a Heisman candidate and the DA picked up the case b/c they wanted no impressions or mistakes after the media ran off. At the end of the day, if you read/believe all sides of it, the correct decision was made. Now, the DA is just a dimwit, plain and simple ,but he is a 70 year old DA for life and according to local angles on all sides, that is just how he is all the time.

Hope you all are watching this Auburn vs Mizzou game. It's a real shootout with Auburn leading 45-42 after 3 complete. Lots of yards to go with the points. Once again begs the question, "Can anyone here play defense?".^&grin -- Al

Not to mention the accuser’s lawyer sent his press releases to TMZ first. ‘Nuff said.

Glad to see the BCS got the championship game right, with Auburn vs FSU. That should be a good one for offensive highlights. The over-under is probably going to be in the vicinity of 150. :rolleyes2: Meanwhile, Oklahoma drew Bama in the Sugar. Wouldn't want to be Oklahoma. The Rose Bowl has a good matchup with MSU vs Stanford. Strength against strength in that one. My UMd Terps drew Marshall in the Military Bowl and Navy got Middle-Tenn. in the Armed Forces Bowl. Can't find the listing for the Tidy Bowl amongst the 35 bowl games that are listed.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Stanford/ASU should be a great game. Stanford's Achilles heal has been unranked teams, lol, so I think they have a chance in this one.

Well,,,,,,that didn't go so well :smile2:

Couldn't run the ball effectively with Grice on the sidelines.

Oh well- Hard to be upset getting beaten by Stanford- Harvard brains, Wisconsin muscle and Pac 12 speed- sometimes your opponents are just outright better than you and they were Saturday night. At least the game was over early enough for me to catch the UFC main bouts.

Chris:

No need for ASU to hang their heads. They had a great season and far exceeded any expectations. It seems as though they have really begun to recruit well so I think this season is the start of something for them. I am glad that Stanford is doing so well, but I think a team such as ASU will knock them off sooner or later. I also think an ASU resurgence is good for the Pac-12 as the south now has three competitive teams, USC, UCLA and ASU.

Yucking it up like Boss Hogg; hysterical, keep em coming Doug........:wink2:................

Saban signs to stay. University of Alabama is officially off suicide watch. :rolleyes2: -- Al
