Maryland beats Iowa 38-31. MD quarterback out for the yr. What is it with Terp QBs and injuries? Go Terps! Chris

Any picks this week?

I like FSU big over ND. Maybe 37-20.

Oregon-Wash will be a good game. I like the Ducks at home. 40-24.

ASU-Stanford could go either way. Stanford 27 ASU 24.

UMD now 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big 10, both marks that exceeded my expectations. -- Al

If the Terps could have held on to beat West Virginia they would be sitting nice and maybe in the top 20:confused:...Sammy

Quite a game tonight (although disappointing as I'm a ND fan). Just when you thought that these teams thought defense was a dirty word, FSU played enough defense. Also, you couldn't argue with the call to reverse what would have been the winning touchdown.

I'm sure my son will say I told you so! {eek3}

I was impressed and surprised at how confident the Irish played in a very hostile environment. I expected them to get rolled like they did against Bama a couple years ago. They still have an outside chance to make the playoff if they run the table. Golson is a real beast. I can understand why they let him come back after throwing him off the team. Jimbo Fisher cracks me up. He is like Boss Hogg with a lobotomy. Talking about his players having honor and integrity because they won a football game. These are many of the same guys who the NY Times reported drive around shooting people and cars with pellet guns for fun along with many other serious crimes.

Kind of disagree with your point here, Fisher is a good guy, long has had that reputation, one of the reasons he was given the job at FSU. Unfortunately, Winston for all of his ability and actual brains and good upbringing, is a pure FOOL. Hard to control what any of them do off the field, but I will say that was one of the classiest games on the field from both sides I have seen played in a long time. Even the unsportsmanlike calls (on both sides) were more about the players playing hard and not truly dirty, more of excessive blocking through the whistle.

Doug, since you are an USC guy, I am sure you are familiar with off the field behavior issues, academic issues, bad character and flat out alumni cheating, it goes on at all programs and is part of College Football.

All major college football and basketball programs are dirty. It's the nature of the money and pressure to win. FSU, however, has an institutional problem of long standing that involves a lot more than a few academic issues. They are a dirty program not only by NCAA standards but criminal conduct. The police in the area are complicit. To say that his players have honor and integrity is a farce. USC was placed on five years of sanctions because the parents of one player accepted a rent free house and a tennis player made a long distance call to her family using a school phone. No comparison to what is going on at FSU. Are they a good football team? Yes. Are they are a group to be proud of? Nada.

Doug,

I don't think FSU is materially different than any other program, they just happened to have won last and had a Heisman guy who is turning out to be a complete idiot. They are certainly no worse than any other one and to insinuate that it is shameful, etc is ridiculous. USC has had the same long sordid history and got caught and the NCAA went after them, end of story. Sounds like sour grapes here and just because Winston is an idiot, it is not fair to label Fisher and the entire FSU team as dishonorable, really? Furthermore, based on the evidence released during last year's criminal investigation of Winston, what did it prove? It proved he was a fool, but certainly didn't prove him a criminal. The alleged victim was deemed completely non credible and had a very unique history to say the least. Is Winston still an idiot for having a big mouth, arrogant attitude, 5 fingering crab legs (technically criminal, but I am sure there are a host of college students who walk out on bar tabs daily).....YES he is a full scale idiot who should be further disciplined for being a moron.

There is a lot of pride in any school and FSU's teams are certainly worthy of pride, one player doesn't make a program.

GO NOLES.

I read somewhere that the penalty on which the ND TD was reversed is called only 1/3 of the time. Don't remember where I read that however. I had a discussion with a friend who was incensed about the call, notwithstanding that it was an infraction and even though not often called, it was still an infraction. We both think that if this game had been in South Bend, it's not called.

I'm still trying to get over this one as am I with the Reggie Bush push of 2005.

I know what you mean. I jumped up and cheered when I thought they had gone ahead.

In the entire history of college football two programs stand out as the worst among the worst. Miami in the 80's and the current FSU program. It's not simply one player but the entire program. Read the NY Times article. A shameful and disgraceful situation from top to bottom. It involves multiple players, coaches, the local police over a number of years.

Gents...time to agree to disagree and move on.

What's all the arguing about? I believe 4 of the top 5 ranked teams are SEC schools. 'Nuff said!
