Off topic a bit.

I moved to San Antonio from Los Angeles in 2009.

I seriously thought about moving to Austin, but changed our minds because the place reminded my wife and me too much like California.

We wanted to experience Texas and not change it to be more like CA.

We've never regretted moving here and being part of Texas.

Good for you partner...…………"Is that a 10 gallon hat you're wearing or are you just enjoying the show?"...……………...

Not familiar with Blazing Saddles then Huh?

If I have to explain the reference, then it's sort of pointless...……………….

Sad :( One of the funniest movies. Mel Brooks, a comedic genius.

And the late, great, Madeline Kahn . . . one of my all time favorite scenes!{sm4}

Just trying to lighten the mood in the middle of a worldwide pandemic...……………..because I gotta be me...……………..:wink2:

All,

Madeline Kahn was a bombshell in Young Frankenstein...Terri Garr too. I was a kid when I saw the movie and fell in love with both actresses. I was like 3 years old or something...I told you guys about me and movies in the 70's...my parents took me to every movie in the 70's I swear. Blazing Saddles was a hoot too George. Oh and of course the "abby...abby-normal" line is the best.

Anyway, I poured 35 bags of mortar over the last week for some stones in the back yard. I thought about this story of a barber shop owner who was cited two weeks ago for opening under the lockdown. He took his citation and ripped the "business is shutdown by order of..." notice off his front door that was stuck on by the cops. The barber who did this was desperate to work and pay his bills or more importantly eat. I felt awful for him and I do hope his 1K fine is waived by the judge when he appears.

Which brings me to my next point. $1200 dollars and shutting down business has become a disaster of a decision made by our GOVERNMENT. I capitalize GOVERNMENT because the stimulus bill was blessed on both sides. What is/was $1200 going to do for anybody? Especially if you are a independent business owner like a barber who has rent on top of personal bills. That $1200 barely covers the 1K fine, plus court costs for the offense and oh by the way, who knows if the barber even got a stimulus check!

How is it that the greatest economic super power in the world who holds the most wealth in history and is considered the richest country of all time...FAIL our average American? How can we consider ourselves the greatest country on earth when we can't even take care of our own. I knew the idea of funding Americans on a monthly basis would never make it through Congress and I believe that is the reason why there is such a push to "open the economy" so the Government can say "see people are back to work and don't need anymore stimulus...all is okay!" The Government should have funded every taxpaying citizen on the day the order was given to shut down. If Uncle Sam calls on us to stay home...rather make it our duty to do so...an order...then our Uncle Sam needs to provide us a cot, roof over my head, uniform, 3 squares and a pay check, PERIOD. Our Government did none of than...they gave us a $1200 pacifier to keep us from crying and left us in the crib to fend for our selves with a dirty diaper and no food. SHAME ON THEM, I say. Oh, and by the way the whole if there is someone who is of the ages of 17 to 20 something you don't get the extra $400. What? Hell teen agers are expensive.

Lastly, its unbelievable that the White House has COVID cases and there is a no mask discipline enforced. Can you imagine how many door knobs, bathrooms, telephones, pens pencils, computers and what not are being touch by EVERYONE in the White House. Listen, I'm not blaming those who are infected as they probably did not even know they had the virus, but are you kidding me? If the Pres and the VP gets sick...well God help us. Lets see who's next in line?...oh the Speaker Madam Pelosi. Trumpalicious and the Veep (who is such a better speaker than El Trumpo) had better pray they don't get sick or God forbid worse.

Very good points! On paragraph 4 i will say that many Americans are more afraid of Socialism then of Plutocracy and Oligarchy. Hence Congress (more one party then the other) doesn't want to supplement incomes too much and too long. They are afraid that people will loose their incentive to go back to work and leech off the government. They look at any government assistance as the road to Socialism. It might be true for a small portion of society who want "free everything" but in this case of a national emergency it is counter productive and cruel.
I can say a lot more but its not the right place.

There is a middle ground here for the next round of stimulus, but $2K - $4K per month per household for doing nothing is not it. There are hard working Americans who do not make $48K per year. I am not for paying someone to sit at home, that is just plain ridiculous.

And just wait to the local governments figure out they are broke from ZERO sales tax revenue due to lockdowns (that is who gets a good portion of it either directly or as part of the State budget. Guess what happens then.......................property taxes are increased to make up the shortfall and sales tax will go up too.

End of day, anyone who works or owns a home is going to be the people who fund this and all bail outs i.e. the Middle Class. No thank you. The sad thing is the productive part of society is most affected by this pandemic - during and after.

Yeah, I said the same thing, I've owned my condo with a postage stamp for a "yard" for 15 years and my property tax is ridiculous, can't wait to see how much it gets jacked up, not to mention gas tax is going to go sky high too...…………..and I'm still waiting for my 1200.00 check, seems like everyone has gotten one but me...……..what gives here?

yup, it is sad but going to be true. When friends always get on me about me saying I am leaving MD, this is going to be the final nail. Even working, it will not be affordable!

George,

WHAT? Seriously you have not received your stimulus? I'm shocked! My mom got hers like ASAP (direct deposit) and got a letter from The Donald as well. We got ours along with zero bucks for the kids. The day we got it, the HVAC konk-ed out...the bill? $1600. Poetic justice there, I guess...stimulus A/C.

George gas here is about $1.40. How about you guys up there?

We're still getting hosed here in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts, 1.80 or so a gallon.

Yup, no stimulus check, but my 88 year old Mother got one, as did my girlfriend and my sister, I got zippo.

No loan for the payroll protection plan either; oh wait, I make a fortune selling toy soldiers, I don't need any assistance...…………...

Yeah, in the Communist Republic of Maryland, we pay about 1.85 average (all the taxacrats at work).

I am really surprised at some of the reactions, so much for compassionate capitalism.

These are not "bail outs", hand outs, charity or welfare! They are to help our fellow citizens
put food on the table, pay their rent and purchase their medicines. These are hard working, "productive"
citizens who had nothing to do with the virus and subsequent loss of jobs. It is not a long term solution
but a way to help people stay home and not contract or spread the virus and cause more deaths. It is a
way to ease suffering until the economy can be restarted.
If you want people back to work then lobby our government for universal testing.

I know there are always people who want to game the system and get something for nothing, but this is not
the case. And its up to our government to better police welfare and medicare fraud.

The second wave or relapse of this virus could put us in a long deep recession or worse a real depression
then your taxes won't matter much, we will all be on the bread line. I am sure that Tom knows that we need
tax reform, getting rid of loopholes and corporate welfare, curbing lobbyists and offshore tax havens. That could
lower taxes for the middle class.

On a last note remember that it is the "working poor" who staff our food stores, pick our fruits and vegetables, process our
meats and poultry, clean our hospitals and homes, work in fast food restaurants and on and on. They may not be
middle class but try getting by without their productivity. The minimum wage in most states only adds up to $20K to $30K a year.

This is exactly the time we need government to provide a safety net for our citizens.
I and others are contributing large donations to food banks around the country. I don't consider it charity or handouts, just
trying to help my neighbors and fellow citizens.
