The WHO has decided that lockdowns are a bad idea:

https://www.msn.com/en-ie/health/me...they-only-make-poor-people-poorer/ar-BB19WBqr

The exception that the organization advances is the sort of thing that the USA engaged in back in March, one that allows governments to husband resources so that medical systems aren't overwhelmed.

Wasn't easy to find the link, BTW.

Not a word about this from America's legacy media/press.

Lockdowns are a last resort when citizens don't abide by wearing masks and social distancing. I agree that lockdowns have many negative effects on economies, schooling and mental health but what else can you do when people disregard
science and health imperatives?
By the way the medical community agrees that right now mask wearing is more important than waiting for vaccines, they are effective in stoping the spread of the virus so why not a national policy and leaders setting the example.
This Virus does not respect borders, state lines or city limits so state by state regulations will not stop the spread.

Was wondering the same and also for Larry Allan, he's not been on forum in a while, Hopefully all is ok with them and their families.

Steve

Larry is fine; he at this time has decided to scale back his forum participation, he and his wife are fine.................he's dealing with a family pet that is sick presently and that is occupying a lot of his time.........................

I was about to ask the same thing.
Good to hear

My sister, who just moved to NY, was going to drive out to visit this week but with the growing number of cases and the stories we’ve read about what happens when families get together, we’ve decided to put off the visit, probably until sometime next year. Better to be safe than sorry.

Two of her three daughters are coming to her for Thanksgiving and both will have to quarantine for 7 days before they can see her. My nephew, who also lives in the City, normally comes out to our house for Thanksgiving but unless he can quarantine for a week, we will just have to have Thanksgiving by ourselves.

Yup, I'm reading more and more stories of families getting together and the number of cases going.

With halloween coming and the parties that result, then throw in Thanksgiving, Christmas and NYE, I have bad feeling the numbers are going to jump the next several months................

Worse yet, Halloween is on a Saturday this year. It seems like many are foregoing giving out candy and planning parties instead, as if that is any safer.

They do an extremely weird thing in PA. If Halloween falls on a weekend, the local govts designate trick r treat to occur on a weeknight before Halloween. This year it is Oct. 29 in our area. They sometimes stagger the date for different counties. Not a big deal but that kind of thing boggles my mind. I would think a weekend would be better for the kids because it is not a school night. One year the doorbell rang and I answered to see some kids in their costumes days before Halloween. Didn't have a clue or candy. Had to rush to the store.

Or do what I do; shut off the light and go upstairs for a few hours.

I spoke with my "Godson" last night who is one of the top infectious diseases doctors in the USA working at Yale University.
He agrees with other health experts that infections will peak in the next 30 to 60 days as more people move indoors due
to colder weather and a large group of Americans refuse to adhere to health official guidelines.

Hospitals in some states are now overwhelmed with new cases and while treatments for this Virus are much better with
new medications the death rates will still be substantial.
Vaccines are coming in the next few months but will take many more months to be distributed and accepted by a majority
of our population. Still the vaccines will not be as effective as the "measles" vaccination for example, which has a 95% efficacy. The
Covid vaccine may only be 65 to 70% effective which means we will still have to be very careful.

Bottom line is listen to the health experts not social media or politicians.

Cases are starting to spike in NJ. Whereas our county (Morris) had been relatively stable, around 10-15 daily, they’re now in the 50-100 range; Monday was 60.

Our state, Kentucky, is planning to setup "field hospitals" to handle the higher influx of cases. My doctor told me he expects COVID to be around for the foreseeable future even after the availability of the vaccine. The governor posted the priority list for vaccinations. The general population (me & wife) is at the bottom of the two page listing. SHould be available to us in about a yr. Chris

Numbers are going up here in MA too; back in August, we were around 200 positives a day, for the past week or so, it's been in the 600 to 800 range, but the number of deaths is still very low.

I can just imagine what will happen with the numbers with all the Halloween parties, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years gatherings as morons refuse to listen and be careful.

My oldest sister traditionally has a large gathering at her house on Christmas Eve, she already told everyone no go this year, I wouldn't attend even if she decided to have it. My Mother has a large Thanksgiving gathering every year, she has canceled that as well.

In order to beat this thing, people need to make sacrifices; so the holidays will suck this year....................oh well, people are going to have to learn to live with the disappointment; it's either that or they go forward with their gatherings and they could be their last.

It's their choice, I know what I'm doing.

Key for me and IMO is the death rate, that seems to have changed greatly since the beginning which is good news. We celebrate Thanksgiving with my parents and will do so again this year, we have socialized with them throughout the pandemic without issue. We did cancel large Christmas Eve open house, which I think is prudent to do so. I am not sure I agree with the "family Thanksgiving warnings", common sense would tell you as in my case, if you have had dinner with your parents, inlaws or sister/brother during the pandemic, Tgiving dinner is not any different. If people use good sense by wearing a mask, washing your hands, etc. than that day should be no different than any other day.

I said this before, but we all (or at least everyone I know) has continued to go to the grocery store, home depot/lowes, target/walmart and BJS/Price Clubs since this pandemic occurred with regularity. If you keep in perspective that each time you enter one of those stores, you are "exposed" to 100s upon 100's of folks and you have not got it yet, then you are doing something right. Personally, I don't sweat the small stuff.

The other thing that I won't predict or constantly worry about is catching it b/c IMO I just can't, it would drive me crazy.

Everyone has a choice and mine is to obtain as much normalcy as I am comfortable with while wearing a mask and washing my hands. Sitting around worrying is a big No Thank You to me.

Thankfully, deaths are down due to new medications and better procedures. Doctors and hospital staffs are more experienced in treating the virus and its complications.
Problem is that hospitals are getting inundated again and some actually running out of space or not enough staff.
Please don't forget that while deaths as a % might be down there are lingering effects that could be life threatening or cause serious health issues down the road.
I know three people who had the virus, now test negative but have lingering issues.....breathing problems, fatigue and heart issues.

Read today that mouthwashes like Listerine and certain nose sprays can kill the virus if used properly and timely. Also good for your breath!

I saw that about the Listerine - that can only kill it in your mouth though - so are they just saying that it’ll limit the virus you’re shedding in your mouth and may not pass it on as readily. Also, how long can that effect possibly last?

I would guess 10-minutes or less. Probably contact kill only, not much residual effect.

Good to know; in addition to a mask, gloves and hand sanitizer in my vehicle, I'll lug around Listerine and nose spray too.......sort of a virus killing kit; guaranteed you see people selling them on Ebay, going around and buying all the Listerine and nasal spray, hording/peddling the items like others are hording toilet paper...............some see a pandemic, others see a profit...............................:rolleyes2:
