I agree.Berry's employees and family may be totally honest but who's going to take a chance.I'm afraid it's called guilt by assocation. It's not right but it's a reality.

either way, i don't see how the shop can survive this scandal.

Might have a clearance sale.............^&grin

MTSC

So does this mean that the business has folded? Their website is still up and running and I placed an order last week. Should I be concerned?

Sorry mate, I have no idea, maybe one of our US collectors can answer that one?

Re: The Sad Demise of the Michigan Toy Soldier Company

I thought this really was sad. It was the first time I had seen anything in the media in NZ about Toy Soldiers and it was unfortunately for the wrong reasons.
I have not purchased from this company before but had periodically looked at their website. After hearing this news I thought, hey couldn't this just about be any website?
Anyway I guess this is a tough industry. You are basically dealing with a non-essential luxury item in tough economic times. I am sad that it had to come to this for a company which was probably doing it's best to serve the hobby but at the end of the day we are all human.

Davout71...

Tough economic times may be seen as an acceptable excuse (not for me) to some but, its not the first time and was not actioned in tough economic circumstances so, thats got nothing to do with the reasons this theft was undertaken. Seems from all the information posted and published it was just greed

Greed is not the problem. Greed is what drives the global economy. We all must make money, and most of us are happier with more rather than less

Unscrupulous behavior in the pursuit of greed fulfillment was the problem. One can be and act "greedy" and still have a strong moral code. Without some level of greed there probably would not be Google, Facebook, Apple, Treefrog, etc.

Its like saying sexual drive was the reason for a rape. No, sexual drive is natural. Behaving in a violent and morally repugnant matter in satisfying that sexual drive toward another unwilling person is the problem.

Sorry Brad, I wasn't aware of the other thread, otherwise I would have placed the link in there. This was big news here in New Zealand and had largely been under reported until yesterday (NZ Time).

I just wanted to share the link with other forum members. Many will be unaware of his interest in Toy Soldiers, particularly the WW1 era and bi-planes. Peter has achieved huge things for us down here via his films and is very highly regarded, hence his "sir' status.

Unknown to most outside NZ, he has also recently undergone major stomach surgery. News of this type can't be heplful to his recovery.

Looking forward to the release of the new Dam Busters movie & the Hobbit.

Cheers Toddy

Respectfully, I'll disagree, we're way ahead of you, in both the toy soldier and scale modeling hobbies. Wingnut Wings made a huge splash, when it premiered, and to great enthusiasm, as well as his line of miniatures ;)

Prost!

He's got some of my WW1 Germans, so I'd have to agree with you. We knew!:D

from a ecommerce perspective i would guess that this is not from using them online............if and only if the site uses a proper regulated PSP (payment service provider) then there is no way that the dealer on the other end sees the credit card information.
we for example at K&C UK use an incrypted coded system called pay point. we get order confirmation and the maximum part of the card we see is the last four numbers and expiry date. Paypoint then tells us money cleared and process order..........in MIchigans perspective it must only been cards that he had on file...........unless he was not using a licened PSP.

so if he used on file card numbers it was a wanten act!

just wanted to point that out as the NZ paper qoutes "its a risk of using online site" no its not!

That's a bit complacent. You sometimes run the risk when using online sites or using info online. There is always someone out there one step ahead. I know from experience. I work for an Internet company and and deal with over 30,000 accounts that are billed through a credit card or bank account each and every month. Sometimes it is just a plain simple computer error.

I must agree with Tony, this is more a risk of dealing with someone whose moral compass is off and doesn't know right from wrong. Embezzling pre-dates the Internet.

Though I do concede, Scott, that the availability and anonymity of transactions online offer more opportunity for someone to cheat.

Prost!
