That was the first Mets game that I've seen this season. Do they have Chris Farley as their physical trainer? I've never seen so many out of shape players. Vogelbach and Alonso are unreal. They have Vogelbach listed at 270 pounds but he looks more like 300 plus.

I was a bit dubious of Freddie Freeman when he came to the Dodgers with all his bizarre blubbering about leaving Atlanta. He looks like the love child of Gomer Pyle and Steve Garvey - a bit goofy - but he is playing some ball now. The Dodgers have lost some pitchers to injuries but keep on rolling.

If Chris Farley is their trainer maybe the Dodgers should hire him as their trainer as the Mets take 2 out of 3 and the season series.

Yes, the Dodger are now only 19 games ahead in their division. It's really tightening up. I'm amazed the Mets are playing so well after watching them for the first time. So many out of shape players. The first base coach is setting a terrible example. He must weigh 450lbs. I remember beer belly players like Boog Powell from the days of yore. He looked anorexic compared Vogelbach. I have never seen a professional athlete in his shape. He can't possibly run the bases. They have some good pitchers, though. I'm much more concerned with the Braves in the playoffs having seen the Mets.

O's beat Cleveland 3-0 tonight. It was their second shutout win in a row and their third in the last 6 games. It was also their 13th shutout win this season, more than their last 3 seasons combined. The No-Name starting pitchers and the relief staff are doing pretty well for themselves. -- Al

And yet Boog was MVP and was in the top 3 for MVP 2 other times.

You should be concerned about the Cardinals and the Braves but if the Mets win the East, they will see the Doyers in the NLCS. You better be ready.

The Phillies the other night lost to the Diamondbacks 13-7 after leading 7-0. The next night they lost 12-3 and a while back 13-1 so I was telling a friend how the D-backs got the Phillies number. So what happens last night, the Phillies win 18-2. Go figure. That's baseball.

Yep. You see it all the time. Your team scores big, like 12 or so runs one game, and then score zero the next. It's always about the pitching. Look like crap one game and then look like WS champs the next. It is a great game. -- Al

The Dodgers are .745 against the NL West.

They are on pace to be one of the best 3 teams in MLB history when it comes to wins.

They are decimated by injuries but they are the favorites to win the World Series.

Yet somehow they barely get mentioned in the sports headlines.

With all of that, I still hate the Dodgers.

The Orioles took 2of 3 from both the Stros, Indians...sorry I'll never call them Guardians 🤣 on the road and hopefully so home cooking we can make up more ground in the wild card spot.

Yeah, the O's keep winning but can't make any ground in the WC race. Just shows how tough it is to make up even 2 games on numerous teams. -- Al

I remember Boog being on the cover of SI, when SI mattered, taking a big swing. The caption read Power Personified. Chris

O's win tonight puts them 10 games over .500 and they still remain 1.5 games behind in the WC because everyone they are chasing keeps winning...except the NYY's. O's are now only 7.5 games behind the Yanks. Amazing. -- Al

Imagine what the old timers would say of Scherzer quitting on the Mets last night claiming he has "fatigue" in his left side. They are in a tight playoff race with the Braves closing the gap. The Mets got shelled after he left the game in the 5th. He quit on the Dodger last year in the playoffs. He's a great pitcher but no heart of a champion.

He exhibited very different tendencies/attitudes with the Nats. He was a fierce competitor that wouldn't come out of a game if the outcome was in question. I don't understand the change. -- Al

The Nats...what can you say other than the season has been a disaster. Any how, they managed to win a series from the Mets today but the interesting thing is that it was the 4th game in the last 7 that a Nats SP has earned the win. This is significant because prior to these last 7 games, the Nats went 43 straight games without a SP earning a win. Very indicative of how far the team has fallen, and especially how far the once vaunted starting pitching staff has declined, a strength for years. Pretty incredible. -- Al

Pujols hit #695 today which won the game for Cardinals. It's great to see him rebound and have a very good what is probably his last year. One of the greatest hitters of all time and a class act. He will be missed.

O's blew a huge chance today in dropping a double-header to the Jays. O's went into the games trailing the Jays by 2.5 games in the WC race meaning a sweep by the O's would have put them only a 1/2 game back of the Jays. Instead, the O's now trail the Jays by 4.5 games. A painful set of losses and now an even tougher road to the WC with only 27 games left. The only good news about the remaining schedule is that the O's play the Jays 8 more times. Although they also have to play NY and Houston 7 times, the other 12 remaining games are against teams with losing records, so the O's ain't quite dead and will have a lot to say about their own fate, but they must right the ship quickly. -- Al
