What an embarrassing performance by the Dodgers. Losing is one thing but being humiliated is another. It is impossible to believe that this is the same team that won over 100 games. Their starting pitchers were atrocious. Roberts needs to be fired. Every year they win the division and get rolled. What are the odds that the Dodgers, O's, and Braves would be 1-8 with two sweeps?

Due to the demise of the O's, I now will follow and root on the Philly Nats. I would like to see Harper rewarded with a title. Love him or hate him, Harper competes to win with all he's got. Go Phils. -- Al
Harper comes up big and the Phillies have pushed the Braves to the brink. If Atlanta goes, no 100 game winners left to play for the WS. Something of a bad joke. At least 3 of the 4 will have 90 wins, but Arizona? At least we are spared a possible Minnesota v Arizona WS. -- Al

Since 2013, the Dodgers have 10 division titles, 1.031 wins (second best team is the Yankees who trail them by 91 wins) and 1 WS title, that was the 60 game season COVID title.

And as Al pointed out, once the Phillies finish off the Braves, you'll have 3 90 win teams and one 84 win team in the final four.

For a purist like me who wants to see the two best teams battling it out for the title, not sure what the answer is.

Three out of four finalists are WC teams and only one is a division winner.

We'll see what the Braves are made of, maybe they can pull out a win and force a game five; we'll see.

Bryce Harper is going off tonight. He is a steely eyed missile man at the plate. Standing there after that first blast and watching the ball sail into the upper deck and then giving the throat cutting sign as he crossed the plate. Then hitting another. That is Cool Hand Luke stuff. Note to Braves: maybe pitch around this guy.

My son was at the game last night with some of his buddies- they were along the first base line towards Right. He texted me 30 seconds before Harper launched that first bomb- Dad Harper is going to knock the stuff off this next ball" Sure enough, he did ha ha

The Phils have been delightful to watch- unreal they did two back to back 6 run 3rd inning game 5's against Atlanta but there you have it.

At any rate, the kid can barely speak today when he drove in to school- too much screaming and carrying on.

The Braves have a tall order, to win on the road, but at least they can throw MLB's only 20 game winner at the Phils. Won't be surprised if the Braves pull out a win, but I think the odds are with Philly and the bat and intensity of Harper. -- Al

Last year the Phillies rolled through the NLDS and NLCS and then got roiled in the WS. Might it happen that way again — who knows? But securing the “advantage” of home field during the regular season no longer seems a reward.

One might ask: does the frenetic race to outright win one’s division set a team up for exhaustion when the 162 games are finally over? Also, perhaps baseball should emulate golf and give the highest ranked teams more than just (the now dubious advantage) of HF?

Not feeling good about the Braves chances given, of late, their balsa wood bats and porous pitching. But I do know they are a better team than they’ve shown thus far in the series.

The Phillies seem quite cocky. That might be their undoing. Or not. But at this level no team can stay hot permanently, and vice versa. We will see.

As a side note, the Braves won, during the regular season, just as many games away as at home. So I don’t put much stock in the “tough to win on the road” notion.

There were a couple of guys who managed somehow to get up on the roof. They were lucky not to be killed by all the home run balls. That first HR that Harper hit was a moon shot. NASA needs to check the space station. He was apparently POd at someone on the Braves for allegedly mocking him after game two.

I was wrong about Atlanta and LA.

Also, in the last 53 seasons the team with the best record in baseball has only won the World Series 12 times.

Well my Phillies made it to the NL Finals. I'll be honest I didn't they would as Atlanta was such a power house this year. Now the next hurdle will be those tough little Dbacks.

Ha ha- yeah no doubt- though I think that second shot Castellanos had might have been more impressive- that was a SHOT!!!

My son committed to play baseball at Eastern U this summer so he heads out to the Valley Forge area next fall. He and I watched the game together last night and I asked if I was in danger of losing him as a Dodgers fan. He said no but I dunno- he's getting sucked into that vortext of rabid Surekill fandom for the next 5 years- next thing I know he'll be sporting Jalen Hurts jerseys!!! {sm4}

You could hear a pin drop in the 8th when Harper and Olson collided at first- going to be interesting to see if there are any long term effect from that.

Mark my words- Im thrilled for the Phills but I don't think Az is going to be the cakewalk everyone might be expecting. I think they are going to give Philly all they can handle and I wouldnt be surprised at all if they win. They have been solid all the way around.

Wanted to get a pulse on the pitch call rule from you all, I had never seen it in play until I watched the Triole A Championship game a few weeks ago..each team has a certain number of pitches they can challenge, it was done quickly and a few umpire calls were overturned, I actually liked it , it didn't slow the game, and corrected a few calls that were certainly called wrong, any thoughts??,

You should get your son one of those "Atta Boy Harper" t-shirts.

Are you talking about a manager challenging a pitch, e.g., claiming that a strike was really a ball. If that’s what you’re saying, I don’t like the notion. However, if baseball is going to robo umps on balls and strikes, a pitch challenge would be unnecessary.

The way the Triple A game went it was the batter to make a decision to challenge the call, there is a limit of challenges ( not sure how many 3 maybe?) But if you are correct in your challenge you keep your number, the batter would step out the box, tap his helmet for challenge, a video box appears quickly and the call is made in a second, play resumes, I liked it, to go through this Season with some of the absolute bullshit calls, I'm all in.

JMO, leave the call with the umps, for good or bad, or go to a foolproof ball/strike system that takes the ump out of the decision. -- Al

I agree with Al. Implementing this rule would be a terrible decision.

How about installing a chip in the ball so that there is no question? This is the year 2023. The technology would be simple. Same for football. No more refs guessing where the ball should be placed or a ten-minute review of every TD.
