Harper comes up big and the Phillies have pushed the Braves to the brink. If Atlanta goes, no 100 game winners left to play for the WS. Something of a bad joke. At least 3 of the 4 will have 90 wins, but Arizona? At least we are spared a possible Minnesota v Arizona WS. -- AlDue to the demise of the O's, I now will follow and root on the Philly Nats. I would like to see Harper rewarded with a title. Love him or hate him, Harper competes to win with all he's got. Go Phils. -- Al
Bryce Harper is going off tonight. He is a steely eyed missile man at the plate. Standing there after that first blast and watching the ball sail into the upper deck and then giving the throat cutting sign as he crossed the plate. Then hitting another. That is Cool Hand Luke stuff. Note to Braves: maybe pitch around this guy.
My son was at the game last night with some of his buddies- they were along the first base line towards Right. He texted me 30 seconds before Harper launched that first bomb- Dad Harper is going to knock the stuff off this next ball" Sure enough, he did ha ha
The Phils have been delightful to watch- unreal they did two back to back 6 run 3rd inning game 5's against Atlanta but there you have it.
At any rate, the kid can barely speak today when he drove in to school- too much screaming and carrying on.
There were a couple of guys who managed somehow to get up on the roof. They were lucky not to be killed by all the home run balls. That first HR that Harper hit was a moon shot. NASA needs to check the space station. He was apparently POd at someone on the Braves for allegedly mocking him after game two.
Ha ha- yeah no doubt- though I think that second shot Castellanos had might have been more impressive- that was a SHOT!!!
My son committed to play baseball at Eastern U this summer so he heads out to the Valley Forge area next fall. He and I watched the game together last night and I asked if I was in danger of losing him as a Dodgers fan. He said no but I dunno- he's getting sucked into that vortext of rabid Surekill fandom for the next 5 years- next thing I know he'll be sporting Jalen Hurts jerseys!!! {sm4}
You could hear a pin drop in the 8th when Harper and Olson collided at first- going to be interesting to see if there are any long term effect from that.
Mark my words- Im thrilled for the Phills but I don't think Az is going to be the cakewalk everyone might be expecting. I think they are going to give Philly all they can handle and I wouldnt be surprised at all if they win. They have been solid all the way around.
Wanted to get a pulse on the pitch call rule from you all, I had never seen it in play until I watched the Triole A Championship game a few weeks ago..each team has a certain number of pitches they can challenge, it was done quickly and a few umpire calls were overturned, I actually liked it , it didn't slow the game, and corrected a few calls that were certainly called wrong, any thoughts??,
Are you talking about a manager challenging a pitch, e.g., claiming that a strike was really a ball. If that’s what you’re saying, I don’t like the notion. However, if baseball is going to robo umps on balls and strikes, a pitch challenge would be unnecessary.
JMO, leave the call with the umps, for good or bad, or go to a foolproof ball/strike system that takes the ump out of the decision. -- AlThe way the Triple A game went it was the batter to make a decision to challenge the call, there is a limit of challenges ( not sure how many 3 maybe?) But if you are correct in your challenge you keep your number, the batter would step out the box, tap his helmet for challenge, a video box appears quickly and the call is made in a second, play resumes, I liked it, to go through this Season with some of the absolute bullshit calls, I'm all in.

I agree with Al. Implementing this rule would be a terrible decision.
