Moe's JJD Model Collection (4 Viewers)

One more pic, this one of my newest KotS acquistion, ACE-33:

The subject makes all the difference in the world.

Gosh, that is a really fine pic of a very attractive Albatros. Great angle. -- Al

Al, thank you very much. I mentioned the challenge of getting the prop in motion while trying to handle the camera. Imagine trying to do that, while attempting to capture an image of the pilot figure's face between those two struts!

Moe, two words...electric fan. ^&grin -- Al

Mike, this one is really three pictures:

Found a very old pic that I thought Al would get a kick out of:

Note that the "vessel" on plane-guard duty looks sorta like the Admiral's barge.

Guess it was a Depression-Era cost saving measure!

Moe, it looks for all the world like the Admiral's barge is towing a kite that looks like an airplane. :wink2:^&grin -- Al

Gorgeous shots, Moe. Love the PH pics. You should consider a booklet of photos, maybe a calender. I'd buy it.:salute:: -- Al

Thanks Al. Too bad that John killed off the collectors club calendar and all. Always liked the pics inside.

ACE-33...again:

Not good to become emotionally involved with one's toys, but I can't stop looking at this model. My display cabinets are full, but I can't bear to put it back in the box. For now, it's braving the dust of deepest, darkest Central Tx, sitting out on a stand in my study. Will have to buy additional storage soon.:redface2:

That really is a beautiful D-III, Moe. Think it's John's best looking Albatros. -- Al

Thank you, Al. '33 is a looker, alright. Jenkins really captured something with this one. Still looking for an MvR version. Of course, then I'd want squadron mates!;)

Moe, do you have a particular MvR Albatros version in mind? D-II, III, or V? Color scheme? There are so many choices. I prefer the D-III in terms of aesthetics, and he did score the largest percentage of his victories (36 kills) by type in the D-III. He did score 16 kills in a D-I or II and 8 kills in a D-V.
An intriguing possibility would be Albatros D-II #481/16 (or possibly #491/16, some question remains), being the aircraft that he was flying when he shot down Lanoe Hawker in his DH-2. This would make a great pairing. This Albatros was in a factory finish of natural wood finish fuselage, gray metal surfaces, and 3-color camo wings. It also had a white ring around the fuselage nose, aft of the spinner. Problem is that this would require a whole new model by John as opposed to a repaint. -- Al

I was thinking about the D.III, as it's already been developed.

Not to sound like a groopie, but I'd buy any of them. I've always thought that the D.Va was the best looking Albatros type, but I've read that the plane was fairly outdated by the time that it went into service.

I'd think that the D.III is the most likely option, should Jenkins choose to actually do an MvR version. That's not to say that he wouldn't manage to make it unique, relative to the other D.III, as he's done so frequently with what, otherwise, could have been simple repaint/knockoff releases.

This Albatross is a beauty, but I prefer the earlier versions with the Maltese style cross... but love all the JJD models.

Moe,

I'm loving all these shots of your Jenkins planes. Well done.

I thought you might like this photo of the real thing. I was at the Pensacola Naval Air Museum this past weekend.
